T1 was enough to scratch an itch. T2 was the complete experience. Never tried T3. I remembe they made it an MMO at first but changed it later? No clue.

To be impartial, he has a fishing yacht, hospital yacht, research yacht. Seems like these are probably floating businesses? Anyone know in what capacity he uses them?

Steam getting better isn’t linked to anyone becoming a billionaire. That sentiment sounds like people can’t stop looking for things to blame Valve for.
Is it too difficult to accept that every single company failed in competing with Steam? I’d say they didn’t even try their best (especially Epic). Must’ve assumed that just serving a website with a web app is all they needed to get as rich as Gabe.

The point is that peoples fingers aren’t quite as on the pulse of what will make something successful as what we give ourselves credit for. We attribute reasons for something’s success or failure after the fact.
Personally, I don’t know what makes a hero shooter successful or not. A game like this could be going gangbusters for some reason in 6 months time and I would probably not understand why. I say that as someone who’s been an avid gamer over the last 30 years.
If my experience is anything to go by, you mug everybody you see, steal everything in their wallet to “identify them”, interrogate them while vomiting drunk in their apartment, and maybe solve a murder or two on accident.
I mean if you trace it back far enough, the engines used are in fact forks of the quake engine (IdTech 2). I’m sure there’s some simple system somewhere that’s still the same in all engines all these years later
Fast forward to today, it’s kind of terrifying that the proprietors of DirectX effectively own the poster-child Vulkan game engine for both performance & visual fidelity.
