TLDR: Dev is The Chinese Room, developer of Dear Esther and Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture. They still won’t say what happened with Hardsuit Labs, the OG dev, and the mechanics and system will be totally different.
Instead of a thin-blood, you’re an Elder fresh from torpor.
Oh man! This game is finally coming out! I’m so excited and…
The Chinese Room
FUCKING goddamn I hate that studio.
Specifically Dan Pinchbeck. Dude thinks he’s god’s gift to game design despite making walking sims. He got in hot water a while ago for talking shit about fans when his amnesia game wasn’t universally praised. Blah blah we don’t understand horror and video games… standard hipster shit.
Not to mention… they make walking sims… I guess we’ll never get a real VTM game.
Ugh, same. I really really really want this to be good. My late best friend introduced me to the first VtM Bloodlines game, as well as VtM more generally. It’d be cool if it did end up being decent, but I don’t think it will
Thanks for the post. I’m happy that it’s being worked on, but I have no expectations. Not even the expectation that it gets released.
But if it releases and is decent at conveying that special World of Darkness feeling, I’m ready to forgive quite a number of technical flaws (after all, Bloodlines 1 is littered with technical problems and still the most amazing vampire RPG).
I am surprised. I already made peace with this game never actually being released. If it does, then great I guess. Nice to know someone is still working on it.
The best case scenario is that it releases in whatever broken mess it ends up being, with good bones and the same kind of thoughtful worldbuilding B1 had, and the community picks it up similarly and makes it into a cult classic.
I’m not holding my breath though, people are still scratching their heads on the developer announcement.
Scott was informed of some less than stellar French reviews of his film – French GQ called it “deeply clumsy” and “unintentionally funny” – to which Scott replied with the following solid gold banger: “The French don’t even like themselves.”
But don’t think that insulting an entire country is enough for Scott. Speaking to the Sunday Times’s Jonathan Dean last weekend, he also reserved some ire for historians, some of whom have suggested that Napoleon might not be the most rigorously accurate film ever made. Scott responded by addressing the entire historian community. “Excuse me, mate, were you there?” he raged. “No? Well, shut the fuck up then.”
It’s a very good setting for a show or mini series, but the way the IP’s current owners have handled it so far gives me pause. Hopefully the writers will be competent enough to not resort to the “radiation and mutations are basically magic” writing that’s been all too common with Bethesda.
I mean we already saw mutants (NOT Super Mutants or Centaurs) in the form of Chris Parnell’s Overseer Cyclops in the trailer. The rest of the shots (especially the Yao Guai tearing up that Paladin) make me think it’ll be more lore-accurate.
