Although I delight when I hear Keith David in Mass Effect or any game, I can reach farther back in time memory: Keith David will always be this wonderful man to me:
Ignoring the chuddy lead and constant insistence on making the game a bit more hateful with every update… it just isn’t a good game.
Weapon balance is very much you either go meta or fight health sponges. At first I thought it was just me but then I checked a few of the mid tier streamers and they were having the same issue where it felt like an NG+ fight in terms of damage… on NG. That said, it also seems like LOTF classic where there are a few OP spells that can trivialize any fight.
Level design? The concept of the lantern is REALLY cool. The reality is that it just means you explore the whole light world. Then you switch to shadow. And then you explore the whole shadow world. And because of the focus on geometry changes, you never really have a sense of continuity. It is very rarely “I am going to shift to the shadow realm to get past this flaming wreckage” and more “I am going to shift to the shadow realm and end up outside the boss gate”.
And for general build theory? On paper, the idea of linking item descriptions to minimum stats is interesting. In reality? It just means you are either checking a wiki or building blind because you have no idea if the item that needs Radiance 20 to identify is good or not. I get that this all has links to the old PnP games but… even those have mostly done away with this and just hide extra stats behind a catch all dump stat for your high INT player.
Also, speaking of the updates. Yup, trans and enby erasure with every update. But even if you are totally tolerant but don’t approve of their lifestyle blah blah hateful motherfucking blah… it also fundamentally changes the game. They removed the boss fight that you were basically guaranteed to lose on a first run which, in turn, breaks what little story there is. And, last I checked, the only way to reenable those is to play with the launch balance of enemies which was… real bad. It is a parody of inclusive difficulty settings with basically “if you want to play the real game you have to play our bullshit where even Dark Souls 2 thinks it is a bit much”.
So yeah. Chuddy ass game from a bunch of chuds that isn’t even all that great. Like… I might actually prefer the original Lords of the Fallen since that at least tried interesting things and had some fun boss encounters… if you picked the right magic at the start of the game. And those devs moved on to make The Surge which (poor level design aside) are genuinely fun souls games with an eye to both transhumanism and workers rights. This? At BEST it is an incremental improvement to the laughing stock of 2014.
The Surge 1 & 2 are massively underrated. They’re not without their annoying issues but even despite them I can enthusiastically say I enjoyed my time with those games. 2 was a big improvement as well. I’ll get around to revisiting them sometime and doing a second playthrough.
I never even got terribly far in the first LotF, it just straight up did not feel good to play. Everything was just a bit too clunky and jank around the edges. I intended to check the second one out but never made it a priority, guess I never will.
I’d absolutely take a Surge 3 from the other guys though!
I remember playing the original because I got it with Games with Gold on Xbox. I couldn’t even get past the first (second?) boss in that cathedral it was such a bullshit.
But The Surge 1+2? Those are cool games with interesting lore that’s actually fed to you, so you don’t have to go searching for little scraps of lore from item descriptions or cryptic NPC dialog. And it’s fun to play, but can still be kinda bullshit sometimes. I still haven’t finished either one though.
what’s fucking sad is I don’t think this guy even realizes he has a problem.
One things for sure, I will not spend this much again, because you don’t get rewarded for it. As much as I spent, I should have everything in the game, but it’s not even close.
That’s what you say when you’ve spent like $100. hell maybe even $1000. But $32k??? This is so far beyond being not “rewarded for it”.
I just looked it up. I’m not sure how I missed this one, but i guess im not missing much. Sad because the trailer looked OK and the team behind it should have at least made an average game. I guess I’ll read up on what makes it so bad now.
I’ve been playing it, I’m around 60% through the story, I wouldn’t say this is the worst game of 2025, not by a long shot, maybe people were just expecting it to be a GTA clone, when it’s more like a single player linear story.
The only issue I have with it is it is all very quick paced, you get a new job and like a day later you’re gunning down hundreds of goons.
After awhile you get access to a ‘build mode’ that allows you to build stuff using provided assets in the world, eg you wanna build a house on top of a skyscraper you can.
The build mode also includes logic nodes for doing gameplay scripting.
All in all I think people enjoy feeling apart of something, and apparently everyone has decided to hate on this game because of “reasons”?
Digital foundry did a segment on it, certain issues will occur regardless of hardware. You might be lucky and not as sensitive to stutter and frame time fluctuations, but I refuse to believe you got the game running perfectly without showing a frame time graph to back it up.
I’ve seen someone playing games at a highly inconsistent 20fps without really noticing the issued, so please excuse my skepticism when you say you got it running perfectly. I’m glad you’re happy with it though.
When did they do this segment? There was a memory leak issue that caused some crashes and FPS drops on the first day for me, though I’m not sure that is the same problem as console because the game would run fine for about an hour then start to lose FPS until eventually crashing. It was patched the day after, since then I’ve had no issues.
Tbh I’m honestly not really bothered about the Mindseye side, but I’m pretty excited for the Everywhere side, never really cared much for single player shooters, I just hope the bad reviews doesn’t dissuade BARB from following through with enabling Everywhere’s full feature set within Mindseye.
i just started streaming this game today after avoiding nearly everything about it, and WOW!! so good already! something this good only comes out once every 5 or 10 years, assuming it keeps up at the same quality of everything I’ve seen so far. I’m only 4 hours in but very impressed by basically every category you can look at a game. and the entire premise being a hyper focused allegory for mortality itself that we all face is very clever, even if very bleak. i can’t wait to see where this game goes! if you wanna watch me on the expedition, hit up www.youtube.com/www.twitch.tv/crustyoldhuman
Hey Baldur’s Gate 3 only came out 2 years ago! I know what you mean though. It’s rare when you play something that feels effortless and you want to keep playing it because it’s that good. This game definitely had that! I luckily saw the trailer last fall and fell for it then. I didn’t want to get my hopes up with how things are these days but I gave it a shot and was my first day one release game in over a year I think. Took the day off and I was soo happy I did.
i wasn’t interested in baldurs gate. I’m very picky about fantasy settings, but expedition 33 has such a great premise I was all in from the intro onward
I’m pretty happy with 4.0. They sucked all the features from it, and the missions are having problems. But the game fucking works, finally. Or at least it did during the first 24 hours of the patch. About fucking time.
That being said this whole shake up was clearly a cost saving strategy, since most of 2024 was not the best in term of making money, a LOT of people jumped shit this year, and I don’t blame them. CIG messed up so much this year. They have alot of goodwill to re-earn from the community and 4.0 is a start but only that.
Something a lot of people miss (and actually Far Cry 6 forgot/discarded) is most Far Cry games end with a very deconstructive and sad message towards the violence you’ve achieved through the game.
They tend to miss since people that care about writing skip these games. I’m curious what they could do with it though.
Not installing your shitty launcher and this game launched with several, basic issues that took too long to fix, they fumbled it so hard! Ubisoft is frustrating, just let your devs cook in peace.
As much as I hate to say it, Ubisoft has a really solid game on their hands. Some issue with netcode and I think the XIM/Cronus use is going to rise pretty quickly, but other games have dealt with it before. I’ve enjoyed the few hours I put in so far and will be playing it tonight with the boys. I’d like to see a classic TDM but hotshot works for now. Also a really cool take on the Kill Confirmed gametype
Warzone, COD’s battle royale mode, is free to play and seems to have surpassed normal COD multiplayer in popularity. Talking to randos while playing normal COD multiplayer, a lot of people say they’re just playing it because it’s a quick way to level up their guns for use in Warzone
