RoyalEngineering, do games w Xbox Cloud Gaming adding mouse and keyboard support

Very excited about this. Some strategy games are a pain to play with the controller (Cities: Skylines, Stellaris, Dune: Spice Wars).

Coelacanth, do games w Helldivers 2 has "performed well ahead of expectations" and topped more than 8m sales

How fun is this game without a friend group that also plays it? I’ve seen some clips, but most of the fun seems to lie in squad based gameplay.

Deceptichum,
@Deceptichum@sh.itjust.works avatar

It’s playable but I wouldn’t recommend it, essentially not with the issue of toxic meta gamers vs casuals.

Dettweiler42,

I have yet to encounter any toxicity, but I’m sure it’s out there somewhere. For reference, I’m lvl 40.

kmartburrito,

It’s really easy to have people join your game, or for you to join others. Also, it’s not terrible playing solo either. I’m really enjoying it both ways. Feel free to add me on steam (same name) if you’re on PC, or if on PS5 DM me and I can send you a friend invite if you want to team up and spread some democracy.

iamjackflack,

It’s fun as a pickup with randos or playing with friends. As long as people try to talk that is

Coelacanth,
@Coelacanth@feddit.nu avatar

That’s about what I figured. I’m not that great with strangers, and English is my second language. I’ve tried other squad based games that rely on voice comms to be enjoyable, and I only really enjoy them when playing with a group of people I’m comfortable with.

Dettweiler42,

You would be surprised how much you can communicate by just pinging stuff. I’ve had many missions with randos where a single word wasn’t spoken, but we were all actively pinging high priority targets and putting markers on the map for our intentions.

lowleveldata, do gaming w Switch emulator Yuzu shuts down as creator agrees to pay Nintendo $2.4m

I wanted to see the case on court tho

Endorkend,
@Endorkend@kbin.social avatar

Considering they were making enough to agree to pay 2.4 million to Nintendo, they were making bank of the emulator.

If it went to court, this would've been much much higher.

t3rmit3,

Over on Hackernews, a dev from a German emulator project that Nintendo shut down was saying that their settlement included a similarly large sum of money, but it was only actually to be paid if the other conditions of the settlement weren’t met, and that if they were, the “debt” was dropped after x years, basically insurance to ensure compliance.

BotCheese,

i havent read the documents but i assume this would be in japanese courts, where it pretty much a guaranteed loss on yuzu’s part.

lowleveldata,

It is actually in the US court. The documents are quite interesting to read.

BotCheese,

there could have been a chance then. no shame on the devs though. that is a costly battle to fight.

Alteon, do gaming w SteamWorld Build underperformed, says publisher Thunderful

I’m sorry, but what did you expect? You can’t possibly think people that were massive fans of your Metroidvania game were going to suddenly love your city builder.

It’d be like if Call of Duty decided to build a Tower Defense game.

SuiXi3D,
@SuiXi3D@kbin.social avatar

And not even a particularly great city builder at that.

AlexisFR, do gaming w Disco Elysium standalone expansion reportedly cancelled and quarter of staff facing redundancy at ZA/UM
@AlexisFR@jlai.lu avatar

This studio must have pissed off someone very powerful to be targeted and dismantled like this.

Did the old guys even got to start a new studio and a spiritual successor?

LoamImprovement,

I don’t think they would want to deal with this shit again, and I wouldn’t blame them. I’m just going to be content with the fact we got one good game.

My Switch 2 (bottom) next to my Switch Lite, running Pokemon Dreams. It’s available now!

flux, do gaming w Steam Next Fest is back and underway with "hundreds" of playable PC demos
@flux@lemmy.world avatar

Alright. What should I check out?

novamdomum,
@novamdomum@kbin.social avatar

The Homeworld 3 demo is impressive and I'm really enjoying Lightyear Frontier as well. Definitely going to buy both when they come out in March. I've been hooked on the Homeworld universe since I started playing it in the 90's (25 years ago! lol I'm old) so it's been quite a long wait but it looks like BBI have done a great job. I've loved them since Hardspace Shipbreaker so I knew this would be something special.

@theJWPHTER88@kbin.social avatar

If you're the type who wants to unwind from the hyper-realistic art style of most mainstream games nowadays, while also exploring modern Filipino life and culture through the eyes of a young adult student, the Until Then demo might be up your alley. Aside from the pixelated art style coming from the devs themselves, who are also wholly Filipino themselves, there's quite a substantial attention to detail when it comes to the greater Metro Manila and the suburban locations around, including our local circuses. Oh, and there's also quite a bit of mysteriousness and some philospophy to it, as vaguely evidenced by its Playstation 5 trailer.

FeelzGoodMan420, do gaming w Valve likely earned over $1bn in Counter-Strike 2 loot boxes last year

I haven’t bought a single fucking skin/box key since I started playing csgo in like 2014 :-). I guess I’m a fucking weirdo or something

snooggums,
@snooggums@kbin.social avatar

Me either, although a few years ago I sold some weapon skins and loot boxes that I received from playing CS Go when it first came out for enough Valve bucks or whatever to buy a couple of new games!

Loot boxes should not be in computer games.

FeelzGoodMan420,

This is the way.

thingsiplay,
@thingsiplay@kbin.social avatar

Loot boxes should not be in computer games.

As much as I like Valve, Valve is one of the major player bringing and normalizing Lootboxes into games. Even before the Lootboxes was a thing on smartphones, let alone before they arrived on other AAA games as well. I think this is the worst contribution of Valve to videogames. And this statement comes from someone who usually defends this company.

snooggums,
@snooggums@kbin.social avatar

Same! I don't play CS 2 and pretty much forgot that they do the lootbox thing.
