CaptDust,

I’d really like Valve to take an official policy on post-release changes that break games, but for what it’s worth they have not given me any hassle with refunds in these scenarios.

CaptDust,

All the online/user created content was lost for all these games too, iirc. Sony took the servers down for maintenance and never brought them back. A decade of work, dusted.

Random Screenshots of my Games #12 - POOLS (lemmy.world) angielski

I’m jumping into psychological horror today, with a walking simulator called POOLS. This game has no jump scares, no monsters. It’s just dark (and sometimes bright), liminal spaces that give you an eerie, creeped-out vibe, themed around indoor pools with unnaturally dark waters. The longer you walk through this maze of...

CaptDust, (edited )

Wonderful water shader and lighting. They’re definitely capturing the vibe.

CaptDust, (edited )

You’re absolutely not alone. Someone just pointed at me from the depths of a pool. Actual creeps down my back, something I haven’t felt since silent hill 2

Edit- finished it in about 3 hours. Top notch sound design, high quality visuals, interesting and unsettling levels… it’s everything you expect. Chapter 1, 2, 5 get seriously high marks from me. Someone described it as a museum game though, and yeah - kind of is. Overall held my attention, I took lots of screenshots, and it made me feel something. Good game.

PS5 Homescreen Now Replaces Unique Video Game Art With Annoying Ads You Can’t Turn Off (www.ign.com) angielski

Wow, this is awful. Some people reported that these ads are also very petty and not necessarily related to the game, like apparently Elden Ring shows an ad for a licensed mousepad when you hover over the game now…...

CaptDust,

Sweet, just in time for the pro. Fingers crossed the next revision doesn’t play games at all, just $1000 to pipe Morbius trailers to my TV. It’s all I ever wanted.

CaptDust,

That sounds like a pretty nice PC to me. Probably not going to play everything on ultra, but neither do consoles.

CaptDust,

“Refunds for PlayStation Store and PlayStation Direct purchases may take 30-60 days to appear on your bank statement”

Why do companies do this? They can process millions of dollars of incoming payments instantly, but take up to 2 months to reverse? Give me a break.

CaptDust,

Sounds like I should start holding my payments in escrow, just in case the publisher decides to shut down their game less than 2 weeks after taking my money. Got it!

CaptDust,

Interactive audio, tile layer nodes and animation updates are all very awesome. Thank you so much Godot team

CaptDust,

Terry in smash, now street fighter. I love it.

CaptDust,

Ooo this looks exciting. I still wish planet coaster had park management more in line with RCT, but the addition of waterpark rides is tempting.

CaptDust,

Planet coaster is definitely the best for sandbox and customizing things. If you want to build a beautiful park and themed rides there’s nothing like it. Meanwhile Parkitect scratches the management/business side itch, I just need these devs to get together and combine their strengths haha.

I didn’t play any planet zoo, that’s promising to hear maybe we’ll get some improvements with this too.

CaptDust,

Ehhh. the game is coming up on 8 years, it’s definitely time for engine upgrades. Also the majority of DLC is themed packs (ghostbusters, back to the future and the like) with scenery, a single ride, and a single coaster. I wouldn’t consider it half-finished.

Embracer rolls out new AI policy to 'massively enhance game development' | Game Developer (www.gamedeveloper.com) angielski

Article textNewly-restructured Swedish conglomerate, Embracer Group, will leverage AI models to bolster game production. As noted in Embracer’s annual report, the company has adopted a new AI policy package it claims has the capability to “massively enhance” its production process by “increasing resource efficiency,...

CaptDust,

Ignore the thousands of employees we’ve laid off, we have AI that is going to QUADRUPLE our productivity. I’m talking AAAA-AAAA games here, folks. The best is yet to come, it’s going to be fantastic.

CaptDust,

Should have sprung for 3DS XL that screen is so tiny in the room.

CaptDust,

The 3ds is plugged in, cable is just hard to see

CaptDust,

The context is Kirby Air Ride, a racing spinoff. Not that it changes much, but it is fully 3D and a genre that can take advantage of surround sound.

Brackeys is back, and will now make tutorials on Godot (www.youtube.com) angielski

This is exciting news for every aspiring game developer! Brackeys, a popular YouTuber who used to make in-depth and very user-friendly tutorials about Unity, is returning after a long hiatus, and will now create tutorials on Godot (for those who don’t know, it’s a FOSS game engine, but I’m pretty sure that, if you have an...

CaptDust,

This is fantastic news, he’s released so many high quality tutorials. Very happy he’s returned and love he’s focused on Godot. It’s past time for everyone to stop helping self serving corpos, they can go create their own supporting materials.

CaptDust,

Oh damn those mobs look awesome can’t wait to setup my volcano lair

CaptDust,

Cool site, shame there’s several outstanding PRs not accepted. Seems the maintainer went dark with the project :(

CaptDust,

Likely nothing, too much backlog from last sale still. I wish there was a deeper discount on bg3 though

CaptDust,

Given that it’s GPL software, though, I expect someone else will pick it up before too long.

But I can think of 2.4 million reasons why it won’t be. So sad.

CaptDust,

2m copies in a month puts this on pace with SF6, could this be a signal the general FGC has expanded? Pretty impressive

CaptDust,

I honestly do believe Lars Wingefors is passionate about games and the industry, he’s been trying to find a place in it his whole career, but I do not think he’s a good business man nor worthy of stewardship for these IPs.

I forgot to eat, 8 hours were gone in a blink. Been a long, long time since I had that happen. Game is good so far, I’d like to see more narrative in the future, but even in current state I’m having more fun than pokemon gen 9

    CaptDust,

No profiles, but there’s save slots so you could have a couple playthroughs going.

    CaptDust,

    End of an era

    CaptDust,

I chucked my perfectly working drums years ago because my PS3 died and couldn’t play any more. Kicking myself hard rn

    CaptDust,

Wait this isn’t by Introversion? Passss.

    CaptDust,

Kind of disappointed they aren’t taking the opportunity to introduce a more interesting map. Having completely flat and level lanes always felt weird to me in a full 3d environment.

    CaptDust,

I completely understand there are gameplay considerations to the choice, but some bumps, dips and general variation would be nice

    CaptDust,

Predecessor is awesome, just needs more traction and a larger player base. It’s very hard game to get started in because only salty vets are playing lol.

    CaptDust,

If Rockstar wanted to bring back London '69 (maybe '89 now?) I wouldn’t be mad at all.

    CaptDust,

The Getaway had plenty of car action, it was pretty neat blasting through the tight roads and navigating traffic.

    CaptDust,

Some really nice quality of life stuff here, favoriting cars and guns is great

    CaptDust, (edited )

I’m not thrilled seeing so many “no-portal” surfaces in this trailer. Part of what made the original so fun was that you could solve the chambers in novel and unexpected ways, then two took some of that freedom away to have gels make sense. Now we’re at a mod that seems to enforce an incredibly linear path to how puzzles can be solved. Disappointing.

    CaptDust,

Probably could have spent less if it was given more time to bake, glad they invested it though 2.0 really brought the game closer to where it needed to be. Still not what was promised back in 2018, but it’s playable and enjoyable enough now.

    CaptDust,

I’m not sure if it’s every game but I don’t recall ever seeing my deck compile shaders, I thought it just downloaded them

    CaptDust, (edited )

It’s been really great for 2d, 4.0 made it really good for 3d, and it’s even decent for general GUI applications, as an engine it feels ready for wider adoption to me.

I think it’s not up to Unreal quality, but for the vast majority of indie games I believe it’s enough.

Unity reveals plans to charge per game install, drawing criticism from development community (www.eurogamer.net) angielski

Godot doesn’t charge a subscription fee to remove the splash screen :)
