CouldntCareBear, do games w New Xbox controller with swappable battery spotted in huge Microsoft leak

Swappable batteries and gyro controls. Good stuff.

maxprime,

Accelerometer ≠ gyroscope

CouldntCareBear,

Huh, you’re right. I must’ve caught a misleading headline then.

maxprime, (edited )

I made the same mistake. The Verge misreported. What a shame.

hydroel, do games w New Xbox controller with swappable battery spotted in huge Microsoft leak

Uh, I have bought the last 3 generations of Xbox controllers and the battery’s always been swappable. What’s new?

pastabatman, (edited ) do games w Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis turns Square Enix's best into an avalanche of money-grabbing tactics

I have room in my life for exactly one gacha game, which I don’t spend money on. Sometimes this is a fun little distraction, even though progress is slow without buying currency. This is how I felt about Record Keeper before they shut down the global version. I love FF7 so I’m giving this a shot, but it’s been a week and I’m struggling. There are so many superimposed mechanics that it feels like a new player starting a free to play game at year 5 or 6 of its life, after they’ve steadily added new mechanics, currencies, and other powercreep for years. But it hasn’t been out for years, it’s been out for a week and there are already so many things to keep track of. It feels like work.

Also, the “automatic” battle AI is VERY good. Better than I am. And you can double the speed so the battles go quicker. At first I was relieved because it meant I didn’t have to pay attention while grinding, but why am I doing this at all if I’m not even playing it?

Nommer, do games w New Xbox controller with swappable battery spotted in huge Microsoft leak

Doesn’t fucking matter when they keep using cheap potentiometers in their joysticks making them only last 6-12 months before stick drift gets unbearable. It’s time they switch to hall effect sensors. I have a joystick from 2014 with hall effect and zero drifting. I have a king Kong 2 controller with hal effect sensors. Zero stick drift after nearly a year of rocket League abuse and zero drifting. I’ve gone through 2 Xbox elite controllers in 1.5 years. Get rid the trash components first.

smokeymcpott,

I’ve got a Rumble pad 2 from ~2005 with zero drift. Still works flawlessly.

Nobody can milk their fans like Square Enix can.

Heard about a FFX remake being developed… ehh you can keep it.

SickDisturbence, do games w Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis turns Square Enix's best into an avalanche of money-grabbing tactics

Yeah I tried playing it this weekend. The very beginning was amazing and nostalgic, but as soon as I finished the opening mission I was bombarded with all the deals and packs and unlocks… I went from excited to feeling sick to my stomach over the amount of bait I had to dismiss before I even saw the main mobile landing page for the first time. I haven’t opened it since.

hydroel, do games w Leaked Bethesda roadmap reveals unannounced releases including Dishonored 3

Isn’t Dishonored 3 Dishonored: Death of the Outsider, or is it more of a spin-off the second? Disclaimer: I’ve only played the first and part of the second, haven’t finished it nor played DotO yet.

Lorgres,

DotO is basically a huge DLC for Dishonored 2 and not a main game. It’s still great though and has some fantastic lore. It also released in 2017, so a bit early for a spot on this list.

Hiccup, do games w Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis turns Square Enix's best into an avalanche of money-grabbing tactics

Square Enix is no longer square enix. They need to take a hard look in the mirror, like capcom, to see who they truly are or will see the collapse of the company. I fully expect either a Sony or Nintendo swooping in to buy them/ bail them out.

They keep fucking up and putting out/ producing garbage. I’m still pissed about how they ruined the remake.

Illecors, do games w Procedural detective noir Shadows of Doubt adds infidelity investigations next week

The idea sounds absolutely awesome, but I have serious doubts any of that awesomeness can actually be delivered. Has anyone given it a shot? How did it go? Is it worth it?

Whiskey,

Not to be antagonistic but your comment reads like something generic word salad from an AI that has no context whatsoever.

Illecors,

Brilliant. You could’ve kept your negative shit to yourself, but here we are.

Whiskey,

You know what, you’re right. I’m sorry. The game is fantastic and done very well with all the procedural elements coming together to make for an awesome detective and coincide tally thief type gameplay. It’s well worth the cost.

Illecors,

Bad days happen to everyone.

Thanks you for your comment!

Contextual_Idiot,

You know, it’s exchanges like this that make me love Lemmy. This wouldn’t happen on Reddit, unless you’re in some tiny niche subreddit. Kudos to the both of you, a good apology and a good acceptance of it.

Please Lemmy, I want some more actual human interactions.

Zombiepirate,
@Zombiepirate@lemmy.world avatar

If you like the immersive sim genre, this one is very promising. I feel like it needs to bake just a little longer though.

Illecors,

I love a good sim, but the procedural bit is difficult to pull off anywhere. Thanks for thr input!

Zombiepirate,
@Zombiepirate@lemmy.world avatar

The world generation is actually one of the best I’ve seen in a 3d space, and the emergent gameplay from that is very fun.

I feel like the crimes still need a bit of work though.

Illecors,

I might give it some time to get polished. Might even run into a sale at that point.

prole,

I haven’t played he new content, but the game is pretty cool and very unique. You create your own little corkboard and yarn type thing to try to solve the (procedurally generated) crime. It’s neat.

Tons of videos of people playing it on YouTube I’m sure. You should check it out.

Illecors,

ACK

mindbleach, do games w Nintendo will update F-Zero 99 with more courses very soon

Wait, they rehashed a Super Nintendo game from thirty years ago, and didn’t even launch with all of its dozen levels? The original weighed less than a megabyte! Opening day should’ve been every track from all two of the 2D F-Zero games Nintendo ever made.

DarkThoughts,

Yeah but it's a 99 racer BATTLE ROYALE! Total innovation! Buy our online subscription!

Or just emulate all the original installments of the franchise that they killed 20 years ago for free.

mindbleach,

Weirdly, I have to defend against the idea they killed F-Zero. They did exactly what they intended with it, from the get-go: they showed off new hardware with a previously-impossible sense of speed. Once for SNES planecasting, once for N64 z-buffering, once for GBA planecasting, and once for Gamecube fillrate.

Every other F-Zero game is third-party.

Nintendo is a toy company. If a product is not novel, they are not interested. That’s why every Mario Kart has some stupid gimmick. Even in the first one, splitscreen multiplayer was the stupid gimmick. They shipped F-Zero and realized the SNES had a second controller… but no two-player games. Shrinking the courses to a static tilemap required smaller scale and lower speed, hence tiny karts. Really take a moment to consider that: even by 1992, F-Zero was not fit for purpose. It no longer achieved what Nintendo makes games for. Doing it again would not be impressive. Doing it again would not be novel. And the fact it’s easy to cram endless bullshit into Mario Kart is why that franchise keeps getting releases, while F-Zero collected dust - until they picked this online clusterfuck gimmick.

But the fact this retro game-as-a-service (ptoo!) couldn’t be arsed to include even one game’s whole level set, when each track must take less space than this comment, is baffling.

DarkThoughts,

You defend Nintendo's reasoning, I defend the consumer that doesn't buy them for them being some weird tech demo for their underperforming hardware.

I weep for all the talented people working under squenix. They seem determined to squeeze blood from a rock, shattering it into a thousand tiny shards, few of which are worth paying for anymore.

I tried playing it because a friend recommended it, and I barely lasted 3 days with it. It is a complete waste of time - you don’t even play it; it plays itself. The games are a Cliff’s Notes version of the original games. I got to it telling me I had to pay to upgrade my weapons past level 30, and I was done.

Bilbo,

If I so much as see a daily reward or a separate currency or an in game store, it gets uninstalled. Those things are guarantees that it sucks.

sadreality, do games w Baldur's Gate 3 developer says pull your PS5 offline to fix sudden crash issue

You pay for PSN to be able to play this thing online... PSN does not work.

What are people paying for?

Also, release the physical copy assholes... You did it in Japan, why is US consumer getting treated like second class gamer?

Blizzard,

What do you need the physical copy for? You will have to download patches anyway.

sadreality,

There are millions of reasons, such as people in rural areas with bad internet can't download large game, none of which matter since I am paying customer lol

I guess if I am alone then fine but I am pretty sure many others wants physical copies of games.

Blizzard,

Oh, ok. I thought you were preparing some kind of internet down / zombie apocalypse scenario. But patches can be big too (I think? Haven’t even paid attention to that for some time).

UrPartnerInCrime,

If someone I’d going to spend the money on a ps5, games, and whatnot, they can afford to buy a cheap external disc player sorry

sadreality,

Weird flex, boy, but ok

null,

How do I trade in my digital copy? Or loan it to a friend?

Blizzard,

Ok. I don’t do any of that.

PapaStevesy,

You’re not the only consumer and they don’t all behave like you. Welcome to society!

Blizzard,

I wrote “ok”, didn’t I?

NeuralDissimilarity,

“OK” may not be the concession that you appear to think it is. Perhaps you meant “oh, I see,” but clearly it is being interpreted as “okayyy, what-everrrrr.”

PapaStevesy,

Yeah, you wrote it, but did you mean it? Not from my interpretation.

Corkyskog,

I’m okay with the PSN being down from time to time, nothing is perfect… but WHAT? you can play BG3 offline, but you cant buy it offline? now I am more pissed they won’t sell a disc.

UrPartnerInCrime,
Quacksalber,

Also, release the physical copy assholes… You did it in Japan, why is US consumer getting treated like second class gamer?

Japanese people by and large demand physical media. In the US, developers have figured that they don’t lose a meaningful amount of money by only providing digital downloads. The typical US customer doesn’t care enough.
