Buying a game with VPN on? Believe it or not, jail.

Federal “pound me in the ass” prison, actually

Rhynoplaz,

They never told me THAT was an option! I’d have pled guilty.

You underpay for game? Believe it or not, jail. You overpay for game, also jail.

Vlhacs, do piracy w How to pirate movies casually?

I use torrent galaxy, that seems to work pretty well.

Qbittorent to get the thing you want. Recommended to get a VPN while doing so.

Dump the file into a flash drive and plug into a TV. Or setup a shared network drive. Or set up a Plex server with a basic Music/TV/Movie folder structure , have Plex scan it, and stream like your other streaming apps.

Nephalis, do games w I accidentally bought a game while my VPN was on

I dont see any problem. Even without refund, what would be the worst case?

My guess: you need to play the game with vpn set to the netherlands? Not more, not less. Or is using vpn prohibitted where you life?

Restaldt, do games w I accidentally bought a game while my VPN was on

Its already too late.

Every relevant law enforcement and investigation agency from the fbi to interpol have been notified

CmdrShepard,

This is your local sherif, and I demand $10000 paid in ITunes gift cards or else we will issue a warrant for your arrest.

HawlSera,

Oh fuck!

potatobro, do games w I accidentally bought a game while my VPN was on

Wut? Why would you be fucked? I buy games with my VPN on all the time

HawlSera,

Arent you not allowed to buy games if Steam thinks you’re somewhere you aren’t?

Sylver,

You’re also not allowed to cross the street outside of a crosswalk

bighi,

I don’t know if you’re kidding, but that would be a very weird law.

violetgreendev,

It’s called jaywalking - illegal in Australian cities actually.

BeHappy,

Illegal in the USA, too. It is a rarely enforced law.

Floufym,
@Floufym@lemmy.world avatar

This is so weird to me. In Belgium, if there is no crosswalk in 20meters, you can cross (and cars a supposed to stop to let you go).

What do you do if there is non ? You take your car to cross the street ? Or everything is well done and you have a crosswalk every few meters on every road ?

qwrty,

Oh, we don’t walk. We drive everywhere, even if our destination is in the same neighborhood.

Rough_N_Ready,

In the US it’s only illegal if there is a crosswalk and you don’t use it. If there is no crosswalk, then it’s not jaywalking.

DeusHircus,

Also in US, and I suspect many other countries

bighi,

I don’t know if something that oppressive is going to be true in many countries.

Maybe only in oppressive countries like China and the US, and a few others.

DeusHircus,

It varies state to state but in my experience it’s a single digit dollar amount fine and that’s it. Only in places that have adequate crosswalks everywhere and rarely enforced unless there’s been chronic pedestrian issues. In US, pedestrians always have right of way. Jaywalking laws are there as a deterrent to protect pedestrians as much as drivers. About the only place I’ve seen jaywalking laws enforced are university campuses. You’ve got throngs of young adults, on their own for the first time, and walking around everywhere in busy urban environments

potatobro,

I’ve never heard of that. Pretty sure even if they cared about that for some reason, there would be nothing they could do about it. What are they gonna do, take you to court? They can’t prove you weren’t in the Netherlands.

electrogamerman,

That would be very easy to proof actually (Not that I think Op did anything wrong or that steam would care)

tomi000,

How would it be easy? Please elaborate how steam would go about investigating OPs private life around the day of purchase and gather actual proof of them not going to the netherlands.

Appoxo,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

The reason you set a steam shop location. If it’s longer term it may be beneficial to change the region but usually you can let it be whereever you want.

I’m 60 hours in and I just discovered that there’s an act 2…

My only complaint is that you can’t rename your backpacks

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

I just use the unique named backpacks I find. Like I have a “backpack,” “Bewildered Adventurer’s Backpack,” “Old backpack,” “Rotting backpack,” etc.

I keep my potions in the bewildered bag, scrolls in the old bag, and throwables in the rotting bag. All the quest items (except the damn artifact) into the backpack I started with, along with my alchemy and supply pouches, gold and keyring.

popemichael,
@popemichael@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

That’s a excellent idea. I’m going to start doing it that way until someone makes a backpack naming mod

Keifa,

I would LOVE to rename backpacks/chests. I’ve gone way too deep collecting storage containers lol

SCB,

This game is fucking amazing

Pyr_Pressure,

I’m over 60 hours in and afraid to ask. Backpacks?

popemichael,
@popemichael@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Backpacks. Yep.

I had to give up by hour 50 trying to better organize things

pory,
@pory@lemmy.world avatar

If you pick up container items like satchels and backpacks, you can use them as nesting storage in your inventory (perfect for all the letters and notes you pick up for example). But you can’t name the container, it’s just “pouch”

Pyr_Pressure,

Oh shit, I didn’t even think of picking those up. I only just discovered I can pick up the books that default to reading on click. Didn’t even think to use that on backpacks.

reverendsteveii, do gaming w Doing things in games because it simple felt good.

I used to like to get gently stoned, fire up GTA 5, put on FlyLo FM in the car and just drive around. My brother and I would sit for hours, and it was basically like we were in a real car. I didn’t drive super fast, took most reasonable precautions against wrecking and killing people. It was just…nice. A sort of cut-rate flow state where the thing I’m doing is something that I have to pay attention to, but not something I’m occupied by to the point of not being able to bs with somebody.

ricecake, do gaming w Doing things in games because it simple felt good.

With the spiderman games, I almost always swing around instead of using fast travel. I’ll do the little tricks and stuff too.

They did such a good job making the basic traversal mechanism satisfying that it’s almost weird they included fast travel.

Running over pedestrians and crashing motorcycles in Sleeping Dogs.

I completed every mission with an insanely low cop score because I killed so many civillians. This game is the poster child of ludonarrative dissonance in 7th gen AAA games.

The game tracks how many people you run over in a “combo” and assigns a high score. Mine is 647.
