Korhaka,

But I didn’t agree to their user agreement

Korhaka,

I like them, I prefer sandbox games over linear ones. I think it’s the sandbox nature of the game that matters more than open world though.

Korhaka,

You can play other games, there is so much to choose from just drop the expensive ones.

Korhaka,

How much is Factorio worth though, everything?

Korhaka,

I bought it long before the steam release, back when multiplayer was in experimental. So glad that there are 1000s of hours that were never tracked so I don’t need to see those.

Looking for a local co-op game to play with my SO (Steam Deck) angielski

My SO and I have been having a lot of fun playing co-op games on the Steam Deck connected to the TV. We recently finished Split Fiction and I’m looking for the next cool experience to try out. We enjoy casual co-op games, nothing too hard or violent. EDIT: pixel art is apparently a big turnoff for her so that’s out as well....

Korhaka,

Keep talking and nobody explodes could be a fun one, only needs 1 device and the other player needs the manual which can be on a phone or printed out. You could even play it over a phone call.

Korhaka,

Might do but you can always go until you find it too hard and then go back to one that you like, or use custom to set a difficulty that you like.

Also tried playing it with extra people before, so far just 3, 1 with the bomb and 2 with manuals. But playing with a few more could also be fun, maybe even set them up with a phone each and stick each team in a different room.

Korhaka,

They already have done that a while ago.

Korhaka,

Discord is more of a chat room than a forum though, lemmy is a federated alternative to forums.

Korhaka,

I don’t even read it, just close. Still hate it and would drop discord immediately if the communities I am in switched to anything else.

Korhaka,

I wish the steam controller wasn’t discontinued, IIRC it was some patent bullshit. But you could use one of you have it or get any other controller and use it with the steam deck

Korhaka,

Fair enough, I guess they probably wanted to target one set of hardware to begin with and this is what we got with a few minor variations. As popularity grows more choices will probably come further down the line.

Korhaka,

I wasn’t going to get one even if it was £20, but how? Trump set the tariffs. Obviously it’s going to cost a shitload more if there is a 145% tariff in the US.

Korhaka,

Its incredibly simple, no money changes hands.

Korhaka,

Poker is a gambling game.

False. It is a card game, sometimes people gamble over card games and poker is a common one. You can gamble over yahtzee if you wanted to.

Korhaka,

Neither is yours.

Ubisoft says you "cannot complain" it shut down The Crew because you never actually owned it, and you weren't "deceived" by the lack of an offline version (www.gamesradar.com) angielski

Full title: Ubisoft says you “cannot complain” it shut down The Crew because you never actually owned it, and you weren’t “deceived” by the lack of an offline version “to access a decade-old, discontinued video game”...

Korhaka,

Seem a few comments recently that seem to think cards = gambling. Balatro doesn’t even use a vaguely standard deck of cards though.

Not that it would matter if it did. But would freecell be considered gambling?

Korhaka,

Depends on the game for what point scaling further gets difficult. I think Factorio can do near infinite with the clusterio mod and from a server host perspective it’s very easy to setup. You just need enough servers, the mod allows cross server interaction.

Korhaka,

You don’t really own a house at all. Gotta pay eternal rent to the government to keep it

Should we boycott games with loot boxes? angielski

I have been avoiding multiplayer Valve games like Counter-Strike 2 and Team Fortress 2, due to their in-game economies that have created an underage gambling gray market, which Valve has done little about. However, I am on Linux, and the choices for multiplayer shooters are few. Besides, my small boycott is not stopping...

Korhaka,

Wasn’t playing them in the first place. Also a Linux gamer, if you want a shooter. Isonzo. Easy Red 2 is alright too, not quite as polished as Isonzo but it does have vehicles in it and is more single player/coop focused than PvP.

Will me not buying lootbox microtransaction bullshit games make any difference to the industry? Almost certainly not. But it really doesn’t matter much either. I can buy the few good games instead and just ignore what the rest of the industry is doing.

Korhaka,

Been on Linux for like 15 years now

Korhaka,

Why do you want a launcher? I have a few GoG games and I don’t really feel like a launcher is something I need.

What I do want is games to actually update on GoG at the same time as steam, not over a week later. X4 7.0 came out and it was over a week longer for the GoG version to update, in the end I refunded and bought it on steam instead.

Korhaka,

I backup my own saves, don’t really trust someone elses computer to do as good of a job as I can myself. Wrote a script to automate it.

Korhaka,

Typing backup “Game” “/path/to/files” is pretty simple though. I wouldn’t complain about cloud saves existing, but I won’t rely on them and absolutely wouldn’t pay for them.

Korhaka,

Just as I got back into playing Drox Operative 2, looks like a space themed month or two ahead for me.

Korhaka,

Factorio SMS: Gun fires, enemy takes damage. Doesn’t matter what is between you and the target.

Korhaka,

Not really sure how one sided battles is related to microtransactions tbh. All the WW1 game series games (Verdun, Tannenberg, Isonzo) and Enlisted are games I have played lately. Both to some extent have this issue at times and yet have very different pricing models. Verdun and Tannenberg is a single game to buy and that is it, Isonzo added a few premium cosmetic packs. While Enlisted is apparently really bad for grind premium stuff although tbh I haven’t really noticed because you start with a rifle and a rifle kills people. Not really noticed a difference with any of the other rifles, they all kill people.

Some teams are just useless.

Korhaka,

I don’t mind losing if it was a fun battle and that is generally the bit you remember. I have gone 15+ kills to no deaths in war thunder and lost before but its still one of the more memorable games. The enemy just keep on coming as they stomp over your entire team and you stand alone (likely due to a little bit of skill and huge amount of luck) and hold back the tide but in the end they still manage to capture the objective and you lose.

Korhaka,

Bad people can have children too. Musk for example.

Korhaka,

Damn reading the impact this has is some combination of hilarious and horrifying to see people bought into a service like this. If it was free or simply a monthly sub like Netflix I could kinda understand. But a sub to use things you also had to buy? Fuck that.

Korhaka,

It worked the other way for me, seeing it locked me out because I am not agreeing to that

Korhaka,

Isn’t it linear story based though? I prefer open ended, been playing a lot of bannerlord recently

Korhaka,

I was born early 90s and always had a bike, so kids not use them anymore, or is it a regional thing?

Korhaka,

As bad as the customers I deal with are I am so glad we only work with real companies. The smallest are a few hundred staff. At least 99% of the time they can be professional. The exception so far have been pretty funny though, shame I don’t go on calls with them anymore tbh.

Korhaka,

Outages are a thing of the past since I switched to 4G. If you asked me in 2010 if 4G of all things would be better than a wired connection I would never have believed it.

It’s fast enough and never had an outage. Once in the past year I rotated the antenna to point at a different mast because it was being a little slow. I assume cell towers are a higher priority of infrastructure as they serve more people, and as there are multiple I can connect to there is also redundancy.

Korhaka,

My first reason for going 4G was general distaste that all the wired providers leave me with. Awful pricing models where they charge less for 4 months then more for 20 and then loads indefinitely kinda thing and I just decided fuck that. I think there is a bit more competition for the 4G side of things too.

Korhaka,

The difference is if steam goes down I might not be able to play a few games. If xbox (what is their service?) goes down you can’t play any games.

Korhaka,

Yep, all my GoG games would be installable without internet if I have the installer downloaded, games without DRM bought from the devs directly like Factorio would also work just fine. Loads of games are available outside of steam, some are even on github for free.

Korhaka,

They do. I am currently playing CDDA with a folder at 987MB, most of that is the save folder at 523MB. You should stop buying games that are so large if you don’t like it.

Korhaka,

For me it ensures I don’t install them in the first place and just don’t buy the game

Korhaka,

Been tempted to get a steam deck at some point, just not sure how much I would use it and if it would justify the cost, having all my games already makes it infinitely more appealing than the switch though.
