It was great to watch all these runs on twitch. Now if Nintendo would just release an open source version of the server and all the content people have created…

pimeys,

Did they get all the MM1 levels somewhere? There are some true classics that would be really sad to lose…

@gibdos@lemmy.world avatar

As a huge fan of the first Dragon’s Dogma I am very much disappointed with the game as it was released today. Honestly after playing for about 2-3 hours today on PS5, I have to say the game is very much not ready for release.

  • Terrible performance with an unlocked frame-rate that’s between 20 - 35 FPS (give me a smooth 30 FPS and never use a fucking unlocked frame-rate on console. WHO DOES THAT? If you can’t get a smooth 60 don’t make me play an uneven mess such as this) First patch gives an option for fixed 30 FPS, disable RT and seems to have made the main city a little better
  • Controlling the character feels like moving through molasses
  • Annoying motion blur that cannot be disabled Fixed in the first patch
  • bad dialog animations and lip sync
  • micro-transactions in a full price game

It’s clear that the game was rushed and needed at least a couple more months in development. I am sure they will fix the most egregious problems but as it stands right now I would not buy the game. Shame fucking Sony won’t let you refund a game if you downloaded it, which is the dumbest shit I’ve ever heard.

I didn’t quite figure out the issue. It seemed to be a problem with directx, and I wasn’t certain how to proceed. I chose to uninstall the nvidia drivers and proceed, for the time, with integrated graphics on my Intel chip until NVK ships with fedora 40

KoboldCoterie, do games w Dragons dogma 2 controversy over the DLC on steam ( and optimisation and denuvo )
@KoboldCoterie@pawb.social avatar

For better or for worse capcom is doing this shit in nearly every one of their games so i kinda expected this shit And if we stop shitting on them for doing it, we let it become normalized.

Denuvo is a cancer This pretty much sums up the topic.

Optimisation. It is poor apparently. Nothing new really as far as pc games go. It’s actually a lot worse than that. It’s been a while since I played something that had this level of problems. The fact that it’s CPU-based performance is actually the bigger issue because it doesn’t matter how beefy your graphics card is, you’re still dropping a ton of frames in that city specifically. I can run the game at 144 FPS until I go to that city, then it drops to 40, which is just outrageous. Gaming PC build logic has for a long time been to prioritize a great graphics card over a great processor (assuming you’re building with a budget and not a ‘money is no object’ type build), because that’s what matters for games, but suddenly with this one specific game, the processor is the bottleneck.

KoboldCoterie,
@KoboldCoterie@pawb.social avatar

To add to that, the DLC thing really pisses me off particularly because I bought the game last night, and there was no DLC. The DLC didn’t show up until a few hours later, and by that point it was too late to refund it. Kind of felt like a bait and switch, because normally I wouldn’t buy a game at launch if they did that shit.

Cadeillac,
@Cadeillac@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, I would still fight for a refund personally. Not trying to assume you have the time or energy to go after it, but I feel like this is extenuating circumstances

cottonmon,
@cottonmon@lemmy.world avatar

There was no mention of this in the reviews right? Feels like this was done deliberately so that it wouldn’t impact scores.

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@lemmy.world avatar

Yes, that’s a years-old tactic at this point. It was big in the loot box era.

Nosavingthrow,

Man, this shit is already normalized. MTX isn’t going anywhere. Zero complaints since horse armor have made a difference. At this point, the best I’m hoping for is not being reminded that there is MTX while playing the game.

caut_R, do games w Dragons dogma 2 controversy over the DLC on steam ( and optimisation and denuvo )

CPU usage in Monster Hunter World is also quite high and installing the performance boost mod from Nexus doubled the FPS for me. I don‘t think I have a single Japanese PC game that doesn‘t have performance problems.

If you wanna pirate a Denuvo game, you better get comfortable cause those take a long, long while.

Ashtear,

All of Sega’s PC ports I’ve played have been excellent. Nihon Falcom has a top-tier studio handling their PC games as well.

  • Full of microtransactions
  • Single character slot
  • Denuvo
  • Performance problems (even on consoles)

Yeah thats an easy pass for now

Goronmon,

Sounds like a accurate sequel to me, haha.

Though the micro transactions seem pretty innocuous to me?

Vipsu,
@Vipsu@lemmy.world avatar

They’re still microtransactions in a full priced game which can break the trust between player and the developers/publishers.
Worst ones are probably the portcrystals and metamorphsis ones which both solve artificial problems created by the developers.

Goronmon,

The appearance change item can be purchased in-game and portcrystals are also findable in-game. So, at best, these items provide a small “headstart” to someone playing the game from scratch.

If anything, the biggest issue is that they are kind of a waste of money.

nac82,

Portcrystals are not the same thing as ferrystones and are useless without them.

You are speaking from ignorance.

They give you some ferrystones in the game as well, but it is artificially limited to force microtransactions into a single-player game. It literally goes against the design of the game.

starman2112,
@starman2112@sh.itjust.works avatar

The microtransactions are the reason I’m not buying the game. That they sell a lighter tent tells me that the tent in the base game is too heavy. That they sell rift crystals for real life money gives them incentive to raise prices in game. Microtransactions that make the game easier necessarily inherently give the developers incentive to make the base game worse.

If all of these microtransactions are innocuous and don’t make the game any better, then why do they want $40 for them? If all of these microtransactions do make the game better, then they shouldn’t cost $40 when you already spent $70 on the game. This is the kind of head start bonus that you would expect to see in a shitty free-to-play mobile game when you use your favorite youtuber’s discount code, not something you should expect to see after spending $70.

Kotking, do games w Disgaea fans: How does 4 compare to 1 and 2, doods?
@Kotking@kbin.social avatar

Played 1,2,4 and 5 .
Mechanics I would say I liked 4 compared to 1,2 while 5 has formula a bit reinvented so it's different at all in good and bad ways.
Story wise 1,2 and 4 are great, 5 story is meh.
So if you want to try after 4 the 5th... Just tune out of the story, it's not even close to others. Personal stories in 5 are kinda good but overall story is trash.
So yeah Valvatorez main plot is great so definitely get that one if you itching for Disgaea.

HawlSera,

Personally I hope we get 3 on Steam one day, it was my introduction to the series, and no other entry has the same absurdly high amount of Post-Game content (Disgaea 3 had a LOOOOONG DLC support cycle and I hope 8 does as well… I miss Prierre and Nisa)

The last time I had that problem, it was because it had selected a Proton version I removed before. Try making sure that game’s compatibility is set correctly.

I’ll just stick with Ghost of Tsushima.

FeetinMashedPotatoes,

That’s my thought. Like any new Ninja-like game that comes out now is gonna be compared to GoT since it was so damn good. If it doesn’t at least compare to the quality of GoT then it’s not gonna impress anyone when you have a better game released years ago that’s going to have a sequel soon.

So I found out after I posted this that there’s a demo, and 40 minutes in I already like Valvotorez more than Laharl, and at least on par with Adell. Seems like I’ll finish the demo to eb sure, and probably pick it up.

Ilflish,

If that’s the case you should get it. 4 was easily my favourite gameplay wise but the characters weren’t my favorite

HawlSera,

It seems like even Nippon Ichi didn’t like the characters, since the Post-Game stories are about Fuka and Desco and in one of them you even recruit the Tyrant version of Valv from way back in the past, who’s dialogue mentions that he hates Present Day Valvatorez

and… when Disgaea 3 got a re-release on Vita the characters who come over from 4 are… Fuka and Desco…

Valvatorez and Fenrich are mysteriously absent

the nicest thing I can say about the two are that they’re a great couple

Liking Sardines is not a personality, and liking Valvatorez is both not a personality, and a violation of my suspension of disbelief.

Vespair,

Vespair, do games w Disgaea fans: How does 4 compare to 1 and 2, doods?

I love disgaea 1 and 2, but I think 4 is an enormous upgrade in basically every single way, including quality of life.

If you enjoyed D1&D2 at all, I highly recommend D4 and suspect you’ll enjoy it even more than the first two.

For the record, I think 4&5 are the crown jewels of Disgaea; easily my favorite games in the series

As someone who played 1 and then 5, I was really annoyed by how nice most of the demons in 5 are.

Also that one character whose arc is about coming to terms with the fact that her family is actually broke, when she had built her identity around being rich… but MFer you’re a demon overlord! Your overlord power is mind control! Just take other people’s money!

Vespair,

Yeah it takes awhile to realize that every netherworld is different with different customs, and that Laharl’s has the most “demonic behavior” default demons of the whole series. The series quickly abandons the real “demon” energy in favor of just focusing on character and setting tropes and stereotypes instead
