At the same time, what is also unethical is publishers, record labels, exploiting people!
We should have seminars and more talking about copyright, correct licensing, enforcement and copyleft concepts, to ensure they don’t get cheated by such entities in the future
Pretty soon we’ll be hearing from people asking about finding free planks to walk, peg-legs, treasure maps, trained parrots, eye patches, and rum. Yo-ho-ho!
What the fuck? First they call out Empress for actually being a man from Bulgaria. Then they drop a transphobic slur. Then they defend DRM and publishers.
I can understand supporting the developers and promoting buying software you enjoy when you can. But one of the big motivations for cracking software is software preservation and removing DRM that harms legit user experiences. So I say again, wtf?
There’s this thing where they pretend they actually do it to be first and not because they want people to download their cracks. And that’s how you get the crazy talk where they pretend they’re pro-DRM.
The worst thing is that, compared to empress, they were quite moderate. I don't know what's wrong with them or why they're all so mad... but I love the drama, I'm looking forward to the next episode.
Ayo I’m in the screenshot letsa fucking GOOOOOOOOOO-
For context, Bungiefan_ak has no fewer than 4 alts that I’ve seen (all on different instances with the same username) and has spent his time on !memes continuously spamming heavily transphobic, homophobic, and objectifying sexist “memes”. Just about every one of his alts is now banned but I’m sure more will pop up.
Now, why the fuck he cares so much about pirates at this point, I haven’t a clue…
Yeah we banned them on reddthat 2 days ago. I’m glad to see I’m not an outlier. Initially we should a 7 day ban should suffice. But then that user decided to message the admin directly and insult them.
Probably the fastest way to get your account banned.
Edit: The message in question. 👀 (Attempted spoiler open if you dare)
To be honest, it’s not a huge deal. The copyright cartel can easily send dmca requests to your isp just for having text guidelines. Not everyone has the bandwidth or energy to deal with stuff like that.
I just wish this wasn’t done at the request of a transphobic racist who just did it to get back at is for getting banned for making transphobic and racist communities in this instance.
One of the most popular instance. This is why federation is necessary and people should create accounts in different servers instead of pulling everyone to one server calling it tge “official” or “main” server
Beehaw’s reasons for defederation were completely unrelated to what’s happening now. They didn’t want the general public to have access to their “safe” community.
there’s more to “the general public” besides 2 instances. beehaw defederated from .world and sijw because the mod tooling to handle a huge influx of people isn’t ready, and it still isn’t ready. (and the rest of their defederations are an off the shelf mastodon blocklist import which all instances should do imo and a few explicitly unmoderated instances. oh and porn i think)
beehaw federates just fine with the instance i’m on, for example.
if they wanted to defederate completely, lemmy does support allowlist federation, and i’m pretty sure their admins know about it.
It uses Invidious instances, and if you enable the proxy option, Google won’t even get to know your IP address, which is not the case with apps like LibreTube and NewPipe.
I hoped that memes stay out of here, but that ship sailed. Perhaps Lemmy will allow people to tag posts in the future, so people like me can exclude memes from community feeds.
You can find games like this one in rutracker which require no installation, decompression or dwarfs thing, only the files. Just like what you’d have after installing a repack
It is not fully private. You can browse without an account but cant use the site’s search. If you don’t want to create an account you can use a search engine like duckduckgo like adding site:rutracker.org to your query
I like sites that are aggregators of content (no one site, necessarily). I think the best move is to find release groups you like the quality of and trust. From there, find out where they upload. I was a big fan of RARBG remuxes (x265) and RARBG-affiliated TV release groups, so it took a bit to find acceptable and consistent replacements. It’s worth the effort.
For movies, PSA slotted right in the quality/size hole RARBG left for x265 movies. There’s groups with better quality at higher filesizes (like QxR), but the ~2GB 1080p stuff PSA puts out suits my needs well.
TV is a little eh. XEN0N is where I ended up, but definitely isn’t on par with ION10/ION265. I haven’t found a great catch-all replacement. But I haven’t had to grab a ton of TV lately, to be honest.
You’d probably like Pahe.in releases, I also landed on PSA (I use it for both movies & tv) and Pahe is pretty close to it in quality/size. Pahe doesn’t have torrents tho, but I think their GDrive and Mega links are pretty easy to get to; compared to some of PSA’s direct downloads you only need one real countdown and less than 10 clicks to get the file
