That Signal looks amazing!

Saw it in this color and I HAD to have it.

XeroxCool, w QA tech for food packaging company.

I think I have 15 of those flashlights now. Several reds for astronomy, several whites stashed around in cars and backpacks, a few uv, and a blue and green because why not. My EDC is an olight i1r on my keychain since it’s smaller, rechargeable, and only needed randomly, but those compact AA lights are so convenient either when packing for an exact activity or using in an emergency. I store them with rechargeable batteries but like that I can use a standard battery on the fly too, if needed.

For everyone else, they’re generic flashlights I find on ebay. The head is focusable (o-ring slider) from a 60+° circle with smooth output down to some very tight beam that projects the grid lines of the LED chip - and a hair above that focus you can project just the lead wire. Half-pressing the tail button switches between bright/medium/dim/strobe.

Mango,

Yeah we use them here to check for print errors. The high CRI is nice but unnecessary. What’s good is how smooth the diffusion is! Very good for checking ink adhesion in our films. I love how the LED shape is projected. 😁. I found out about the strobe by accident.

Handkerchief users represent.

hamtron5000,

it’s so handy. 99% of the time I use it to clean my glasses, but if I’m with someone who’s crying, if I need to clean off a screen, if something’s dusty or gross but I need to pick it up, if I get sweaty and need to wipe my brow, if something gets spilled and there are no napkins handy, etc I can use it. when my dad passed I got all his; he was a high school principal most of his career and carried one every day.

Hey fellow subaru owner!

hamtron5000,

good eye! my own car is an Outback (2018) and my work car is an Ascent (2022).

its_the_new_style, w februrary IT guy pocket dump

What kind of Subaru?

hamtron5000,

Ascent for business, Outback for pleasure, lol. the Ascent is the car I drive for work, the Outback is my personal car.

Ashelyn, w februrary IT guy pocket dump

Is that a Warby Parker glasses cloth?

hamtron5000,

lol, yes it is! I got my glasses from there ages ago before I knew there were cheaper options. I like my glasses and need lens cleaning cloths all the time, so it works.

Ashelyn,

I thought I recognized the lettering through the backside of the cloth! When I got my prescription updated I decided to buy a “nice” pair of Warby Parkers and a couple swapout/“fun” frames from Zenni. Maybe it’s a bit consumerist but I like having a couple options to accessorize with depending on the overall look I’m going for.

merde, w Multitool

why did you choose rebar over wave?

fujiwood,

The biggest reason was form factor then price. I wanted something that could fit my pocket comfortably. I already have a dedicated pocket knife and screw driver so while it would be nice to have better options those weren’t too much of a concern.

rhacer, w Backpack recommendations?

My daughter is 14. My Timbuk2 pack is several years older than she is. Can’t recommend highly enough.

Thorny_Insight, w Backpack recommendations?

I’m not sure if this is too military for you but Savotta Jääkäri S seems to match your description for the most part.

There’s one big pocket, smaller on in the inside of the lid and a separator for drink bladder that also functions as laptop pocket but doesn’t take away any space if you choose not to use it.

DeepChill,

I don’t mind the military look of that one at all. I just browsed the site and found an even more basic one that caught my eye. I’m assuming you have a bag from this company? The material is pretty good? It looks like it should be pretty durable considering their target demographic.

Thorny_Insight, (edited )

Varusteleka is a Finnish military surplus store. They have their own “Särmä” product line aswell but other than that they’re just a retailer. Savotta, however - the manufacturer of the backpack I linked, is a very well known and highly appreciated Finnish military/hiking gear manufacturer that makes gear for the Finnish Defence Forces aswell. Their quality is absolutely top notch. I have both, Jääkäri S and Jääkäri L backpacks among their other gear aswell.

What comes to that specific online store; the descriptions actually are honest. If the product is shit it says so in the description. I’ve seen examples of that before and especially the Finnish descriptions are sometimes hilarious. I’ve bought a ton of stuff from there and everything has met or exceed my expectations.

Edit: You’re probably talking about the 202 LJK Daypack. It’ll last two lifetimes.

DeepChill,

Oh, ok. I like the pic with the bag full of rocks. I’m not that hard on the equipment but it’s nice to know the materials are that strong… if it’s not just marketing wank.

Are we the same person? I’ve had my Regulus, skeletool CX and mini skeletool (top left forgot name) for years and years.

Is that a Toshiba disk? Looks similar to one I have.

Sometimes I think about getting a nicer real watch, but I just can’t give up my little Fitbit.

constantokra, w Linux enthused Machinist EDC

Check out the sog powerpint. You can get them really cheap from aliexpress, and the pliers are pretty great. They also have a bit holder. I carry a dewalt flip and switch to go with it.

Steamymoomilk,

It looks pretty dope! Thanks for the idea May be a replacment for my gerber dim R.I.P

Aggravationstation, w Why does nobody has a phone or USB Stick in their pockets?

I carry one with Ventoy on it with the below ISOs I occasionally use to fix computers. Never used it to transfer files.

  • Debian 12 (my daily driver OS)
  • Windows 11
  • Kali
  • Rescatux
  • DBAN
cetan, w Looking for a knife that flips open like a Milwaukee Fastback for under $100
@cetan@lemmy.world avatar

A button lock knife is very popular. Many are well under $100. I’d recommend the CJRB Pyrite Alt for a blade shape more similar to a razor. if you want even smaller the Mini Pyrite Alt is a great 5th pocket carry. www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_store.html?steel…
