sterlingdax, w Backpack recommendations?

kriega

They are designed for motorcycles but this is what I used commuting on my bike. One outer pocket, an inner flap and the rest is open space. Expensive, but nice

DeepChill,

The Max 28 looks interesting. Thx!

lapommedeterre, w Linux enthused Machinist EDC

How do you not lose all your little USBs? This would be my one true fear.

Steamymoomilk,

They sit in a plastic bag I forgor to add it to my picture :/

lapommedeterre,

Ahh, okay. No worries. Maybe a headphone case would work, too.

Sabata11792,
@Sabata11792@kbin.social avatar

I lose them or my pocket kills them. I just gave up on carrying a flashdrive.

Just swap out the internals with the clicker from an F702, that’s what I’ve been doing for years.

EDIT: a space

SECOND EDIT: Also put a space pen refill in that sucker, you deserve it. Just make sure to pull the little plastic bit in the tip.

rozPierog, w My EDC as a regular office droid

What’s the utility of the key case? I think that having keys just on a keyring allows them to more comfortably spread inside the pocket. Never had one, so I’m curious if that’s an aesthetic/security or convenience tool

Diplomjodler,

No jingle jangle. No snags. Less hunting about for the right key. And I just like the look.

rozPierog,

Completely valid reasons! Thanks for satisfying my curiosity

LesserAbe,

Just looked up the key case, I kind of like it. The problem for me is always the car key. Modern cars seem to have these giant keys, and I keep them in a jean key pocket, so something has to give.

Diplomjodler,

The car “key” is in the Ridge wallet.

LesserAbe,

Your use of quotes has me intrigued, what do you mean by that?

Diplomjodler,

I have a Tesla. The “key” is just a key card.

intensely_human, w QA tech for food packaging company.

Where’s Mango?

He’s on the loading dock checking the shipment.

But Carl already signed off on that.

I dunno. He said he wanted to go over everything again, with a fine-toothed comb.

curiousaur, w A slightly eccentric physicist's EDC

I’ve used the same Lamy Vista, the clear acrylic version of this pen so you can see the ink color, for maybe 18 years. Absolute workhorse.

etuomaala,

OHHHH, I want that pen. I noticed it the week after I got my Safari, and was like, “NOOOOOOOOOOO!

curiousaur,

Especially with the converter with the red twist cap, it looks awesome.

Jansport is excellent. I recently sent a 30-year-old bag in for warranty work which they honored at no cost to me other than shipping. A great choice.

PrecisePangolin, w Passport Sized Notebook

Love the setup! What pen is that?

fujiwood,

Thanks! It’s the Everyman Grafton Mini Twist. I like it except for how slippery it is. They released a matte model that has a textured finish. I would recommend trying that one over the original.

It takes Parker style refills and I currently use Ohto PG-105NP.

PrecisePangolin,

Thank you so much!

Geometrinen_Gepardi, w Prybar/marlinspike made from an old beryllium copper wrench

This is interesting, what is the rope end used for and why do beryllium copper tools exist?

Peppycito,

They don’t spark when hit against stuff. Presumably the rope is for not dropping it in the lake.

EM1sw,

As Peppycito said, they don’t make sparks, which is important if you’re working somewhere that could have explosive fumes. The lanyard is traditional for sailors’ tools to prevent loss as well as dropping it on someone below. Mostly decorative now but it’s convenient to be able to let go of the tool if you need both hands for something.

FartsWithAnAccent, w Looking for a knife that flips open like a Milwaukee Fastback for under $100
@FartsWithAnAccent@lemmy.world avatar

Bokker makes some knives like that, but I’ve always been partial to flippers like the CRKT M21. Does it need to have an actual button? That might limit your choices a bit.

Death_Equity,

CRKT knifes with flippers are excellent. The sound of the double lock variants are great fun.

I’ve been pretty satisfied with the rite in the rain pens. The ink is pretty nice for writing in all conditions. They have a pretty wide variety to choose from.

finn1sher, w (Request) Looking for a CCW backpack without a lot of Velcro
@finn1sher@mstdn.ca avatar

@Vej I would look at the Vertx Gamut backpack! I'm not a fan of this American company that tries to act all macho and patriotic while manufacturing their stuff who knows where, because they just say "imported". Instead of "Made in China" or "This is our partner factory in Vietnam at this specific address".

You're not gonna find a CCW bag without Velcro to be honest, that's how you attach the holster. But the gamut seems easy to clean out and none of the Velcro is exposed to the exterior

Vej,

Alright it’s in the running now. That looks pretty sweet. Thanks for the suggestion

VelvetStorm, w (Request) Looking for a CCW backpack without a lot of Velcro

You can’t expect something you abuse to be a buyitforlife

Vej,

I want just something really durable. I want to take it hiking in bear country and in the city.
