merde,

you can do the same using any knife with a “button lock”.

most popular knife of the last couple of years has a button lock variation and it’s less than a $100 knivesandtools.com/…/-civivi-elementum-button-loc…

merde,

Parker Jotter, hardy and cheap.

The Victorinox swiss army knife is simply the best pocket tool! (Edit: no one tool is everyone's best)

@edc

The more I look at alternatives, the more I realize, nothing can give you this much functionality in this small a package, while being so high quality and reasonably priced. Popular (machine-assembled) versions regularly go for $25.

The one caveat is that it falls behind modern knives in terms of safety and ease for opening/closing. I'd love to see a next-gen SAK without nail nicks.

merde,
merde,

did you mod the mini c.?

what are those scales?

merde,

filled with a mix of water, Platinum carbon black, and inkjet printer ink

why do you choose 👆 solution over a commercial ink?

merde,

because we have to fill or change cartridges, buy or make ink, clean the nibs, carry our pens carefully… too much effort just to write

ballpoints are efficient, sturdy and effortless. There are situations when we have to write/mark quickly while standing or outside under the weather

it’s not a question of “superiority” but practicality. when i’m writing or drawing on my desk i use a fountain pen. outside i carry a small zebra ballpoint

merde,

i need more information :) you can change colours with inks too

merde,

space pen works upside down and it’s a ballpoint

merde,

are you using distilled water or tap?

merde,

not a “should”, but it would help the nib, i assume, considering the state of the kettles and washing machines &c

it depends on where you live and the quality of the tap water 🤷

merde,

isn’t Star Wars an imitation of Asimov’s Foundation ?

merde,

why did you choose rebar over wave?

Anyone else watch the new Ghibli movie and want the knife?

@edc

Studio Ghibli's new movie, The Boy and the Heron, prominently places quite a few traditional Japanese knives, including kitchen knives, a sword, and the boy's pocket knife, a Higonokami. They're a carbon steel friction folder. I just thought it was a vibe seeing it in the movie.

If you want to buy one, fuck Amazon and Chinese copies, go directly to the source!
Edit: higonokami-knife.com may be less legit than others. See comment

merde,

i already had higonokamis and i watched that boring movie some weeks ago.

not all higonokamis are carbon steel. I just bought a 7cr18mov as a gift and i think it’s considered stainless

they are simple and likeable but they’re not practical at all.

blue steel / bronze version is my desk knife and i carried a smaller one from time to time.

You can’t eat with them, they’re thick. I would choose an opinel any day over a higonokami
