Currently on Earth for 8 years ensuring steps to unite humanity and usher us into the galactic civilization just so I can see my boyfriend again.

Shadow Boxer maybe. It’s an arcade boxing game with the same kind of format as Punch-Out but not as easy.

If you want something a little more realistic, there’s Undisputed; a Fight Night clone currently in early access on Steam. But it’s not remotely like Punch-Out other than being a boxing game.

Between 4, 5 and 6, I don’t even know if I want another Civ game. I usually just play 4, despite having 1-6. 4 is like the peak of the series.

“Roguelike.” <- 44 years on and we still don’t have a real name for this genre that isn’t just “first game of its type with ‘like’ at the end.”

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

whereas a single journalist saying something like “Theme Hospital-like” is not a genre.

Exactly. Which is why your comments here do not make any sense at all; they’re not saying it’s a genre. They’re saying these games are like the games of a long gone company of the past. There’s no established way of saying that other than “Bullfrog-like.”

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

Do I even have cloud saves if I just use the DRM free installers and not GOG Galaxy? 🤔

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

Variables.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

They would remain 0 until flipped. They did say heavily modded, so like if you added more quests to the game, these all need some way of knowing what legs have been completed. The more modded quests completed, the bigger the save. And that’s just for one thing that a save would keep track of.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree - PREVIEW THREAD angielski

Previews for the Elden Ring DLC have just been released! Lots of journalists and popular Souls players have been to an event where they played the DLC for a few hours, giving us way more info on what to expect and things such as new weapon types and upgrade materials. This isn’t a comprehensive list, just the few that I found...

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

I guess if you never got gud it would feel that way, what with constantly being destroyed by the same roadblock over and over again.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

That place has gone hollow. Maybe the call of Miquella will implore those previously subscribed users to rise again.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

I’ll finally get to play this \o/

Never had it when it was new, and playing the original on a modern machine (even with GOG’s version) doesn’t really work. Riven and Creatures 2 are the only GOG games that refuse to work for me, and it sucks because those are the two I have wanted to play the most, the longest since I knew of them as a kid, but never had them.

I fuckin’ love Myst’s lore. My favorite book of all time became The Book of Ti’ana because of it going into great detail about the height and fall of D’ni. I’ve even made models of the city in Minecraft based on the descriptions of it in that book.

Adaptive triggers make sense because not many games use it even on PS5 and it’s a very specific function that isn’t replicated by any other hardware yet; but why doesn’t eye tracking or HDR work with existing software on the PC side?

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

I still wonder if they will eventually go the other way around, too, and let me use my Quest with the PS5 for things like RE4 VR. Doing the remote play method is jank af.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

But why would I have to use their software? There’s no other options for the triggers that I am aware of, but there’s tons of software for HDR and face tracking. A lot of it is FOSS, too.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

I’m just wondering if the internal camera would at least be picked up as a generic camera so you could use any of the things that let you get face tracking just from a camera feed (as I do now), or if they literally have no translation drivers for it to even be detected on Windows or Linux as hardware.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

They do work in a couple of PS5 ported PC games. IIRC, Returnal and R&C: A Rift Apart have working adaptive triggers on PC. But you also have to have the controller plugged in with the cable; it doesn’t work via BT.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

Those things are complicated as fuck. An arcade cabinet is relatively simple compared to a pinball machine. Even modern ones still need all the moving parts for the board; video game just needs the computer, a controller and a screen.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

Depends on when it was made. A modern, multi-game cabinet could run entirely on a Raspberry Pi and cost far less to build than a console.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

They want your data so they can market you a PS5 better.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

Wait… Like the tech demo game that comes pre-loaded on the PS5?

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

Playstation players are upset by the lack of exclusives. There are like 4 or 5 games that are only on the PS5 and one of them is Astro’s Playroom; a tech demo platformer that comes with the system to show off everything it and the new controller can do. There is nary a reason to move from PS4 to PS5 even if you’re a hardcore Playstation fan.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

Why oh why is MGS4 the only one not on any other system? It can’t even be streamed on PS4 or 5. 😩

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

I subscribed to Game pass when it was just $1 for a while because it was just $1.

I subscribed to PS+ Premium for a year when I got my PS5 because it was cheaper than buying games unseen to see if I liked them.

I had Nintendo Online specifically because I got Rocket League on my Switch when my previous PC died and I needed my fix. This was before RL was F2P and thus you needed NO to play online.

I stopped with GamePass when it went to a regular price and it stopped being worth it for me since most of what’s on it does not interest me, or I already own it elsewhere.

I didn’t renew PS+ because they jacked the price up and I couldn’t afford it, even though I still feel the year is worth what you get out of it since it’s still cheaper than buying every individual game I might want to play, and a whole year is plenty of time for me to complete several games.

Ditched NO as soon as I got a new PC and could play Rocket League on my regular account.

The “food so bad, it has to be censored” trope is one of the best.

Kolanaki,

I’ve only played Lost Judgment so far and it’s awesome. It’s kinda like a smaller GTA if GTA was an anime.

Man… Read the title as “Politicians” at first and was like “I could have been teabagging Trump and not even know it.”

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

Thats exactly it. I think it was Phil Spencer who said he’d want Microsoft to buy Valve if the chance came up. In the same sentence he said he would buy Nintendo, too. In the same way a Gen Z’er might say “I’d like to buy a house someday.”

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

They could have done nothing and been okay because Paradox apparently put their competitor Sims game on indefinite hold so we’re still stuck with just EA’s bullshit instead of having a choice of which life sim with an outrageous amount of paid for DLC we want to play.

What are some eras of gaming that you've stopped feeling nostalgic for? (kbin.social) angielski

As I've gotten older as a player, I have found myself dropping some eras of gaming that I used to be nostalgic for. One of them is the 8-bit era, the NES days. I have played some of the best that system had to offer and I will never say that system didn't have any good games....

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

I went from getting everything to maybe playing up to 3 new games a year about the same time the PS3 came out. I know what I like and what I want, and the vast majority of games do not deliver these days.

New Details on Valve's New Game 'Deadlock' - Insider Gaming (insider-gaming.com) angielski

As already leaked, the game is a 6v6 third-person hero-based shooter. Heroes include magicians, robots, creatures, humans, and more. There are currently 19 different heroes, each with different abilities and playstyles that you’d come to expect from a MOBA including ranged, healers, tanks, assassins, etc....

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

I mean, I still remember when TF2 was going to be a generic war game and they were showing it off hella early in development.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

Giving up fate itself is a huge deal in the lore of these games. I hella wanna know what Miquella thought was important enough to do that.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

I can’t help but think of that scene in Grandma’s Boy where JP is working on his game and it just shows a 3D animated model doing a walking animation and literally falling apart like a crash test dummy while he whines “WHY ISN’T THIS WORKING?!”

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

This isn’t even the tip of the naming weirdness this series has.

I’ve seen an hour long video essay that focused entirely on how they named the games.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

I feel like the only kid on the block that didn’t have trouble with the water temple.

What ruined my life in OOT was Shigeru trolling and vaguely hinting that the rumors of a triforce you can obtain in the game actually existing so I wasted years looking for it.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

It also says you can’t compare it to other games “maliciously.” What the fuck does that even mean?

“Marvel Rivals is just as bad as Cyberpunk 2077 at launch.”

???

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

Graphics aren’t the same as aesthetics.

The graphics can be objectively bad in so far as the technology used may be out dated, less sophisticated, or slower than other implementations.

Aesthetics (how everything looks) are subjective.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

Oh my bad.

“It’s just as bad as OverWatch 2.”

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

I actually liked the game more at launch. I had 4 noticeable bugs the entire run; 1 was merely graphical (Tom’s Diner t-posing background noc), 1 prevented a quest from being completed (door that was supposed to open never opened), and 2 were kick ass exploits (the bullet time+slide+jump speed exploit and the infinite painting exploit).

It’s just… Not as fun without that slide speed glitch… :(

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

“Of course I know what I’m doing! I just don’t know what effect it’s gonna have.” Ahh… That dude is just Fantastic.

Can somebody explain why game makers don't start their own companies together? angielski

It seems like every other week a game studio is massively laying off employees; sometimes after years of development. What I’m reading is that it’s a quick way to lower expenses and pad the investors’ pockets, flooding the market with developers and reducing their value, to then hire them back a few months later at lower...

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

They do, though. Like, all the time. Many Indy companies start this way, and a lot of AA to even AAA studios started after high profile people were let go or otherwise left a bigger company to start their own.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

The first time playing when he starts telling me to turn the game off cuz I’ve been playing a long time, I had literally been playing one long-ass session up to that point without ever turning the game off. Freaked me out. Psycho Mantis in mgs1 could tell you exactly how long you played, and I thought this was a legit Easter egg for playing a single 12+ hour session. lol

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

Worse they can say is yes, then take you home to carve up and eat because they’re a serial killer cannibal.

Earthbound has my favorite trash mob of all time.

The New Age Retro Hippy.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

I still have my slim PS2 and Magic Swap discs. It had the best library of that era IMO.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

Hardware power wise it was the least capable machine. Library wise, it dominated.
