I’m currently playing Xenoblade Chronicles and I also played Final Fantasy remake and Golden Sun recently and all of them have wildly different combats. Which got me thinking what JRPG out there had the best combat? This doesn’t mean that it’s necessarily your favorite JRPG as well....
If you actually read their interviews and reviews you will see that it is way more in-depth than any YouTube essays or twitch streams. It sucks that those things attract more people because I get way more informed at an objective level with GI articles and similar podcasts.
I wouldn’t say better, if you didn’t like them in their earlier days then I doubt you would like them now. To me, they just provided more thorough insights into the games than random YouTuber or Reddit comment section.
Too much man. I was initially just playing Atari 50, but I was itching for something with more gameplay so I started Neon White and I am loving it. That game must have been QA’d to hell because every level just flows so smoothly. Then I also started a new session of Monster Hunter World with couple of my friends. Later I was just not around my PC, so I decided to check out what I have on the switch, and now I’m in chapter 4 of Xenoblade Chronicles. Bonus game: Ordia on phone.
I love Tears of Kingdom, that’s one of the few games that does open world really well and doesn’t do any of the things that OP mentioned. Sense of exploration in ToTK is even better than Elden Ring imo with some really clever environmental puzzles and multiple ways to tackle them.
As a long time Dragon Age fan, I’ve been really, just iffy about Dragon Age: The Veilguard, especially since the very first trailer that they put out. The vibes were way off, like they were making a trailer for a Fortnite crossover rather than a dark fantasy game. The gameplay trailer afterward did seem to be more of what I...
I am very cautious of what BioWare is going to deliver, but do you guys think everyone overreacted over that trailer? I saw it and I was like, “okay cool, kinda cheesy, but it’s nice to have a confirmation at least”. Then I look at the comments and it’s just trash fire everywhere.
I agree, but I would strongly emphasize the graphics. This might be the most visually impressive game out there right now, but yea, the gameplay is boring af and the “sense of dread” that the og had is lacking here.
Curious about y’alls opinions on this. I like the idea of getting new people to experience an older game by aligning it to modern graphics and accessibility standards. But capitalizing on nostalgia with quick updates to that make it look modern rather than making new games seems like just more of studios trying to squeeze...
I like remakes, in a lot of instances it’s the games I have already played, but it has been a while. Mass effect 1, Resident Evil 2-4, Demon’s Soul. Also, so many of these companies put so much money and time into new games that it’s a nice little bonus to get a remake in between those huge releases.
During today’s Ubisoft Summer Game Fest showcase, the publisher took a moment to acknowledge that, yes, its long-in-development and oft-delayed Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake is still being made. But if you wanted to play it soon…bad news. It won’t be out until sometime in 2026....
I was fine with what they originally showed. Yes, it wasn’t the prettiest game out there, but if it was modernized enough then I really didn’t care about the graphics that much.
It’s an unpopular opinion in most forums, but I love most gaming journalists. I prefer their podcasts and their articles and their opinions way more than any YouTuber/streamer. I just get more insightful and less bias information from them.
Yes, I know that, but they haven’t done anything egregious in quite some time. Microsoft, Sony, Take-two, Embracer and Activision have been been making a lot worse headlines for the last few years now.
I was not a big fan of BG3 or even the divinity series, but I love Larian. Their products show clear passion for the budget they have, they don’t bad mouth other dev just to gain some brownie pts with gamers (CDPR) and their games are well supported.
To me it just felt like divinity with higher budget. It has Proper cinematic cutscenes and different rules to the combat. I guess I just don’t like CRPGs, I never properly feel immersed in the world.
You are giving me same vibes as myself, that meaty comment is spot-on. The game tell you that you’re traveling continents, but it never really feels like it, maybe we need a bit more imagination lol
At the end of the day it’s apples to oranges. The behind the scene development is so different that we can’t really judge them properly, we just have other modern games to compare them to.
I used to love that sub, but these days they are only focused on the outrage culture. Nothing inherently wrong with that, I like to laugh at people who take their video game waifu too seriously. I initially joined that sub because it seemed like the best place to have level-headed conversations about overhyped games, like the Witcher 3. Everywhere else seems to love that game as if it’s the second coming of Jesus, but if you find some places that didn’t like the game, they swing a bit too hard on the opposite site, so you can’t have a conversation with them either. I found plenty of people in that sub who loved that game, but knew where the shortcomings were.
Edit: to anyone downvoting. I’m playing the game with my partner on ps5. It has been fun, but now we are in act 3 and the game crashes every time she joins the game. The solution I have found is if I return to the camp and then let her join, it works. That’s why it’s not a “finished” game for me.
I still don’t get the obsession over 144hz. I saw a big jump from 30 to 60 and I also see the jump from 60 to 144, but I’m happy with 60. 30 genuinely feels off to me though, but even then I can get used to it in like 10mins.
I mean, we got RDR2 5 years ago and that game is a masterpiece. Yes, there is potential for the next thing to suck, but it hasn’t happened yet, so why be pessimistic?
Because we have been there already with Netflix, but what’s more evil here is that Netflix is not a juggernaut of a company like Microsoft. I don’t hate MS like most users on Lemmy, but even I can see how harmful this can be to the gaming industry. Indies will start struggling to breaking even if an average user just starts relying on gamepass.
