They seem to not understand what made the good games good, and then when a game does do well, they try to milk it. The yearly releases are likely too much as well.
Black ops 3 was cool -> ruined with predatory micro transactions. anyone remember how they would pair you with people who had the items you were viewing in the loot box menu in an attempt to get you to purchase? And then the odds were stupidly low to actually get the items.
The modern warfare reboot was cool. But again they slowly ruined it entry after entry.
Black ops was kinda neat last year. Then they tried to milk it again.
Idk I’m kinda rambling here but if you’ve played most of the titles I think it makes sense as to why people aren’t always getting every one at this point
So then it sounds like somebody just needs to provide a font for applications that is a low priced one time payment and they would do pretty well. I wonder how difficult it is
On Friday, the Hard Fork team published our interview with Roblox CEO David Baszucki. In the days since, it has become the most-discussed interview we’ve done in three years on the show. Listeners who wrote in to us said they were shocked to hear the leader of a platform with 151.5 million monthly users, most of them minors,...
I wish we could find out what part of these ceo’s brains are physically broken and fix it by force. There’s the whole Grey area of like is this ethical but if we could determine this defect without any error I think it would be a breakthrough similar to curing cancer.
I wholeheartedly agree. It does sound dangerously similar. Ultimately, the main difference would be that I don’t want to hurt people(also to be frank it’s straight up impossible and imaginary to change people like this. lol). I just want them to be compassionate. I think ultimately, they need empathy. Maybe if i phrased it that way, it would sound less messed up. But yeah, they need to have empathy and a guilty conscience. If we could make everyone have that, it would be a much better place to live.
Governments don’t seem to want to do enough about them. They’re willing to let millions of people die because of billionaires. It just seems absurdly cruel and we just have to kind of sit and watch or get trampled on too.
Hmm so I would say go with the switch 2 mainly because you mentioned money isn’t an issue. It’s going to be purely peace of mind as you’re not going to need to do any major troubleshooting later.
Alternatively just go with the steam deck and let her use it normally and (I assume as I’ve never owned a steam deck) it should just be plug and play the same as a switch.
Coming from experience, if it was me and my mom in the same situation, I would go with the switch 2 because I know there would be less stress involved overall. I normally do the tech help requests for my parents’ pc’s and phones, and it always surprises me how they can sometimes manage to break things or get themselves into a pickle.
I have watched gameplays of the side stories and played till Act 1 on DDLC but I cry very easily and cried at the end of Act 1. I am also triggered easily and DDLC is a horror game. How do I play it without getting triggered or anything? :(
If you’re triggered easily, I’m not sure if the game is a good fit for you as it does delve into some deeper, more serious topics.
The only other thing I could think of to try and resolve this issue would be to purposely spoil the plot of the game for yourself by reading summaries in advance and then make the judgement call on whether or not you believe you can handle the subject matter?
Outer Wilds was my favorite of the bunch. I didn’t know anything about it and went in blind. It’s gotta be in my top 5 favorite games, if not number 1.
Subnautica felt similar due to the exploration element. I wish there were more games like this.
I did really like Obra Dinn! I thought I might not due to the theme of the game and the color pallette but those worries were gone after playing it. It was a lot of fun piecing the story together. I played both Obra Dinn and Blue Prince with my spouse and I think it made it more enjoyable for me because I tend to hyper focus in on like random details or I’ll look at the big picture and forget other little things, so it was fun to play and experience them together.
I enjoyed Blue Prince but the repeating structure of the game started to wear a bit thin as you progressed. I kinda wish there was a toggle to ensure quicker completion once a person completed the main objective. I didn’t bother to go and finish the extra bits n bobs because I felt like it was just too much busy work at that point.
I have played it! I thought the water gameplay was pretty good, but the on land was not my favorite.
I really liked the cyclops submarine as a mobile base. It just felt like it made the underwater sections feel claustrophobic and dangerous at every turn once you encountered the larger leviathans. I missed it a lot in below zero
They also make the game “The finals” which also uses AI voices. If I recall correctly, they paid some people to offer their voices to be used for AI generated voice lines.
I wish they didn’t though because the rest of the game is really good. It’s like they took the look of mirrors edge and combined it with battlefield gameplay in a smaller map design and no vehicles.
I have been enjoying these multiplayer games. They’re pretty silly. Also, I really appreciate that these indie titles have a much lower price point.
Only problem is I don’t have time to enjoy them all. Too many games, too many work hours. It’s like the iron triangle where you gotta pick two but you can’t have all 3
I’m really hoping all my existing purchases can be played via PC one day. If “everything” is indeed becoming an xbox, then I’m hoping this becomes a reality. I’m disappointed they’re moving away from their traditional consoles, though. It feels like the end of something special.
Oooh I feel like that might be a bad idea for valve, but might be good for everyone else. I don’t personally play, but I would assume some of their player base is invested in the gambling. If they feel discouraged, it might be enough for them to stop.
Whenever these massive tech companies started laying people off during 2020 was when I went “well shit”. I was only a year into my job and struggled to find something even somewhat relevant at that point prior to covid. I thankfully still have that job for now but I don’t know what’s next
Tech workers have become a dime a dozen now it seems. Heck all workers seem to have. Now with the whole AI thing I’m trying to think of what I can pivot to.
Tech is ruined for me personally. I don’t want to touch AI. I’ve been considering some kind of business i can start myself or like…I don’t know really. I’m just burnt out and don’t know what the future will look like. There’s so much uncertainty
Interesting article. Particularly love the fact that most of the dev team (full of leftists and liberals) hated Tom Clancy’s books (he was a right winger), and the story for Splinter Cell was done ironically as a parody of Clancy’s tropes.
It always surprises me when I read about people getting hired with no experience. That seems unheard of today. You need the perfect combination of educated enough, but not too much, and maybe giving up your firstborn child to secure a job, lol.
I’ll give my example and I think I’m going to get a lot of hate for it. I DESPISE Dark Souls 3. It is such a mediocre game when it comes to the actual gameplay. There is like zero build diversity, the combat isn’t indepth and, while the other souls games have at least decent RPG mechanics and exploration can make things...
Hmm I think most rogue likes. But that’s probably a me issue. I just don’t enjoy having to restart and play the same gameplay loop again. Hades was the closest one that I seemed to enjoy more as I liked the story bits between each run. I recently started cult of the lamb and I enjoy the base building so that might help too.
It’s interesting that you mention DS3. I quite enjoyed my time with it(once I got my bearings. I had to restart a number of times) but I’m super curious if I would enjoy it as much if I went back and played DS1 again to compare.
I can completely understand the environment complaint. I really liked sekiro for all the varied environments and themes.
I just hope that if “everything becomes an xbox” like they have stated they want to accomplish, that I’ll have access to my full library of titles via pc.
They’ve destroyed their brand through a million cuts over the past decade
Game Pass Ultimate will now also bundle Fortnite Crew and Ubisoft Plus Classics subscriptions. In addition the Essential (formely Core) and Premium (formerly Standard) tiers will now get cloud gaming.
It was a great deal when you could convert for a dollar. I was already paying for online, so a dollar was nothing.
From those super cheap years, I played a good majority of the catalog. If I had to estimate a total amount, it’s probably close to 300+ games I at least tried or finished.
The issue is they didn’t add enough to keep up and what they did add was a lot of old titles I’ve already played. It doesn’t make sense to pay what they’re asking now. It’s crazy. I’m very curious if their asking price will actually pay off for them. After my current sub is up, I think I’m good.
The whole industry trying to milk people for more and more feels gross. I’m going to stick to sales and indies for the foreseeable future unless there’s that one special title that comes around once in a blue moon.
People lacking empathy really messes with me. Stealing is obviously morally wrong, but to steal from someone who is obviously very sick is next level fucked up. I’m glad people helped this guy out in the end. Really sad story
My only issue with palworld is the gameplay loop. Your options seem to be collecting pals, exploring, building bases, and then fighting the arena bosses. It feels like it has solid fundamentals, but it just doesn’t feel like a fully fleshed out game
I would really like to see a company go back and make unique handhelds. Handhelds have become portable consoles, which is cool, but I miss the unique games that were built around limitations or unique hardware like the DS and 3ds.
Also I would really like a handheld that doesn’t hurt when you hold it for extended periods of time.
There’s been some incredible indies the past few years. I’m loving that people are going back and making games that look and feel like they could’ve been on the n64, ps1 or SNES.
Well, I was trying to complete my second playthrough of Metal gear solid 2. But a bad Windows 11 update seems to have corrupted something, and now my PC is crawling.
So, attempting to reinstall/repair. Thanks Microsoft :3
Other than that Metal Gear has been awesome. I finished 3 the other week and have also been playing 4 on the ps3. Not super keen on the bombardment of cutscenes so far in 4, but it’s still pretty neat.
I have really appreciated learning the mechanics of each game. I feel like this is one of the first series where I can play each game twice and learn new things about the game on each playthrough. I can tell how I’m improving and when certain fights were completed with luck or if I actually mastered them. The depth is super addicting
Thank you for the heads up! I’ll have to go check when the cutscene comes up so I don’t get caught off guard.
I ended up having to watch the MGS2 cutscene before the last boss, and one of the really long MGS3 cutscenes on youtube because I fell asleep while they were playing lol
I don’t think anyone does unless the ads are on a smaller site or service. Anything larger like YouTube, tiktok etc just do some automated checks and send it. That’s why so many scams/propaganda get advertised. Nobody checks
Depends on when I hit that difficulty spike and how changing the difficulty works. If I can change the difficulty at any time and not lose progress, I’ll do it and not think twice.
I was playing the evil within 1. I was at the end of the game right before the final boss. The game up to that point was balanced on hard. It gave a good survival horror experience. Every boss fight or mini boss felt reasonable.
At the end of the game, they suddenly throw you into an arena with a ton of enemy waves that wouldn’t drop enough ammo to deal with them all. Looking it up online, the recomendation was to save ammo the whole game specifically for this fight. But nowhere prior did i feel like that was needed
Suddenly, the game went from being fun to frustrating. I didn’t wana have to replay the level so at that point I hung up the towel and moved on.
Great game otherwise! Might replay it on normal one day lol
So, while this is going on, does anyone know of must-have games that could get targeted soon? My wishlist is pretty big, and I usually sit on stuff until I feel the need to play it, but if an indie dev is going to be unfairly targeted, I might as well grab stuff now.
I’m digging indie titles taking some risks and trying new stuff. They’re usually decently cheap and fun with some friends. As AAA titles begin to adopt the new $80-85 price tags, indies have a time to shine.
I’m sorry but I don’t know where else to go. How the f*** do I contact EA Connect support?? Just how?? EA makes it nearly impossible to get in contact with a real human if you are having a problem....
Sorry I don’t have a way to help. I noticed this changed recently as well and was really frustrated by it.
Believe it or not, a decade ago, EA support was actually good. I know it sounds insane but I had the BEST customer service call with someone from the Midwest US. I was trying to get into the time trials in the game Mirrors Edge. For some reason, I was getting a weird connection error.
I spoke to this customer service rep who walked me through some bizarre steps, which seemed effectively like clearing the cache of my xbox. All the while, we just shot the shit and discussed games. It was just a casual call, she was genuinely helpful and SO efficient.
At the end of it I didn’t wana hang up the phone LOL. It was the best customer service call I’ve ever had and it kills me knowing that they axed these people at some point. It was a call that I think is rare to experience nowadays with service reps being overworked and monitored to hell and back.
Title is tongue in cheek, of course—they probably are gamers. I get that making a game is complex and full of trade-offs, and you can’t please everyone. Still, there are certain design decisions that just feel like they weren’t made by people who play games regularly.
Oooh, grounded felt like they didn’t play test for solo players. The end game suddenly got very grindy, and I decided not to finish because of it. Loved the game otherwise. I’m hoping they will try to balance it more for the second game
I’ve been streaming recently, and one thing that stands out to me is when you first boot up a game and it doesn’t have a start menu with settings.
I noticed it before, but now I really notice it. If something is wrong with the settings, sometimes that intro is unplayable or a less than optimal experience. So you have to try and skip, fix the issue, and then restart the game and try again. This seems to be more of a PC issue than a console issue, but even on consoles sometimes you need to adjust things like brightness or add subtitles
