sculd,

Do people really trust Ubisoft to fairly portrait American Civil War? I think cancelling is the right choice.

sculd,

Makes sense. Every games nowadays want you to play them forever, so players obliged and buy fewer games. Karma.

sculd,

Those are called drama YouTubers. Just block all of them, will be good for your mental health.

sculd,

“The team is heads down,” Huckaby said. “We drew a line in the sand when we said 2026. I don’t know if we’re going to make it, I just know that we’re going to do every single thing possible to make it. And part of that is not taking time for the distraction of CitizenCon.”

That means they already know they are not going to make it. Otherwise why say this more than one year before?

sculd,

During a Q&A session following Sony’s latest financial results, Tao said that despite the negativity surrounding Sony’s live service offerings thanks to the issues with Concord and Marathon, she still believes live service games are worthwhile because they’ve added a revenue stream that didn’t exist for the company five years ago.

so they learnt nothing…

sculd,

It depends on the game. I still like Metal Gear Solid 1 & 2.

sculd,

Talking about lost feature, I feel like like less modern games like to give their players a comprehensive map.

It used to be that map is a basic feature in games that involve any kind of navigation but nowadays some games just…don’t?

sculd,

Already seeing backlash from the gatekeeping league community. LoL is losing out to newer games partly because of the unintuitive control scheme.

When even Street Fighter is innovating despite the FGC’s reluctance, League needs to evolve or will be slowly left behind.

sculd,

Unfortunate, but considering that the PS4 is more than a decade old, I suppose supporting that platform must be a pain for the developers.

Also my guess is that new competitor from Kuro games is beating Genshin on the graphic front and Mihoyo wants to up their game.

What are signs that the game devs aren't gamers themselves? angielski

Title is tongue in cheek, of course—they probably are gamers. I get that making a game is complex and full of trade-offs, and you can’t please everyone. Still, there are certain design decisions that just feel like they weren’t made by people who play games regularly.

sculd,

The replies here feel more like “list of game features that I do not like”

sculd,

Probably priority? They have a tight deadline and skipping cut scenes is not a priority feature.

I have also seen game where dev deliberately ignore call for adding a skip scene button because they want their players to read the story. You can disagree with it but maybe the dev really think their cut scene is worth watching. That doesn’t necessarily mean they don’t play games, its just that they have high pride in their work.

I know the above is a controversial take. But I have no problem watching cut scenes if that is the dev’s intention.

sculd,

For more context, Bloomberg also reported on this:

Xbox Executives Were Blown Away by an Upcoming Game. Then They Canceled It.

bloomberg.com/…/microsoft-s-xbox-cancels-blackbir…

No paywall version: archive.ph/daYYd

But Blackbird’s cancellation was particularly shocking because it had blown away executives at Xbox just a few months ago. During the demonstration in March, Spencer was enjoying the game so much that Matt Booty, the head of Xbox Game Studios, had to pull the controller away so they could keep the meeting going, according to two people who were in the room.

This is a game that even Spencer was enjoying and then they just cancelled it. I have no word.

sculd,

The MMO market is still big, just not as big as its used to. A MMO by a successful team has a much better chance than most games.

sculd,

They really need to take their time on this one. Without major change releasing the game will be a suicide.

sculd,

Agreed. Not sure if anything can save this game at this point. I just want an 8 hour campaign in the spirit of the original…

sculd,

So Jagex wants to avoid controversy…by creating a bigger controversy? Genius move from the new “CEO”. As always, the executive class is insane.

sculd,

Absolutely. I am just fed up with MS regarding their increasingly shitty Windows. Forcing “AI” whenever possible. (No, I don’t need outlook to write emails for me. Thank you.) And generally just funding this AI craze.

sculd,

fall guys among us

Both infinitely replayable and has nothing to grind for except some cosmetics that doesn’t affect game play

Players Have Too Many Options to Spend $80 on a Video Game (web.archive.org)

Fact 1: Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox announced this week that it will sell “some” of its upcoming video games for $80 — a hike from the previous standard price of $70, which itself was a hike from $60 just a few years ago. This comes in the wake of Nintendo Co.’s announcement last month that the new Mario Kart game for...

sculd,

So glad I never got into that thing.

Just doesn’t understand why so many people prefer Discord over forums. In terms of information preservation Discord sucks!

sculd,

Shout out to fellow fans of Honkai: Star Rail ! Best space fantasy I have played. Great story, great music, great characters!

ZZZ is a bit too action oriented for me but the urban fantasy is good too!

sculd,

I know this is not for everyone, but may I suggest you to try Hoyoverse games?

Since they are designed to be played both on desktop and mobile, the game play session can be short but still meaningful.

At least this is what I do. I still play other indie games but Hoyoverse really made be forget the need to buy “AAA” games that are designed to waste players’ time.

sculd,

Yup The key is to do it bits by bits. Still pretty fun!

sculd,

Play time =/= QUALITY game time GaaS are designed to keep player busy while single player games are meant to be finished.

sculd,

Same. I find myself increasingly alienated by so called AAA games and turned to more indie games. I don’t need high graphics nor 60fps, just give me good game play.

Vampire Survivor and Balatro are only two of the more successful examples. I bought dozens of other indie titles that have little to no media coverage.

I do play one GaaS (from Mihoyo) casually though and it sort of fill my need when I want something to chase.

Make your complaints heard about bad games, says Dragon Age veteran Mark Darrah, but "your $70 doesn't buy you cruelty" (www.rockpapershotgun.com) angielski

Answering GDC’s 2023 survey, 78% of respondents said they considered the harassment and toxicity developers receive from the public to be a serious issue. A simple sentiment is often the most effective, and the title of Dragon Age veteran Mark Darrah’s latest video cuts right to the heart of it: “Your $70 doesn’t buy you...

sculd,

Looking at some of the comments make be lost faith in humanity… Or maybe social media is just destined to be toxic

Capcom is experimenting with generative AI to help generate the “hundreds of thousands of ideas needed for game development" (automaton-media.com) angielski

Resident Evil and Street Fighter series developer Capcom is experimenting with introducing new technology, including generative AI, to tackle the ballooning costs and man-hours required for game development. In a recent interview with Google Cloud Japan, Kazuki Abe, a technical director at Capcom, gave some specific examples of...

sculd,

Pretty sure the actually developers at Capcom have more creative ideas than the AI they would use

sculd,

Looks at Balatro, the game I spent most time playing this year. Or Vampire Survivor, the game I spent most time playing last year.

Yes, they did! They certainly misread the market!

sculd,

Balatro

Its not even a contest. The time I spent playing a rogue like poker is higher than most other games combined.

Send HELP!

sculd,

I also bought it twice to play it everywhere! The dev deserves the support!

Riot Games is cracking down on players’ off-platform conduct (www.engadget.com) angielski

Riot Games added some new clauses to its Terms of Service that could put some players in hot water for unbecoming behavior that occurs “across the various places that touch their gaming experience.” Players can face penalties, suspensions and even “Riot-wide bans” if they are caught violating these new rules.

sculd,

This is actually good. Too many toxic streamers ruining the game for everyone else. Its time to clean up.

sculd,

Thank you for the explanation!

sculd,

Probably a right decision

sculd,

Ever 17: The Out of InfinityI understand this game may be harder to find since its not on modern platform, but I strongly recommend Ever17.

Eye opening visual novel. Interesting set up, unexpected turn of events. One of the classics. Unfortunately the company went broke so the game is stuck on older platforms.

sculd,

Touhou series? Some of them are pretty good. The music are also superb.

sculd,

Good article. Games should be inclusive and a lot of the working population don’t have the time to “get good”. If it is a single player game let people enjoy in whatever ways they want.

sculd,

I play Honkai: Star Rail daily during commute. The day mission can mostly be auto’ed. More complicated quests can be done when you have time.

sculd,

Banning login bonus is such a good idea. When I am busy I simply don’t have time or remember to login once per day and then I miss out on some items.

sculd,

Agreed with the tone of the videos being off and I don’t like both creators.

On the other hand, there is definitely some weird accounting going on at the charity. They are supposed to report all expenses which they didn’t. They also didn’t provide any banking statement that show the money were there all the time. If the fund is misused and then repaid later, they were still misused.

sculd,

Kojima finally gets his wish to make a movie instead of a game!?

sculd,

I liked Peglin but after a while it feels like the game is really unbalanced with too few useful builds.

sculd,

Some tips:

  1. /deafen (every single game once you load in)
  2. Do not lock screen onto your own hero. Play it like a RTS
  3. Play Garen if you are top, Annie if you are mid, DO NOT PLAY JUNGLE
  4. Items are confusing but using the default recommendation is fine for newbie.
  5. Try practicing against bot to learn how the skill works
sculd,

Westwood I had fun with Red Alert 1 & 2 for a long time. Super casual player though.
