Might be nice if they’d even comment on the Mac version which they supported from day one, but then went silent (beyond saying it was delayed) when it was time for release.
I was similarly disappointed but IIRC it was delayed to September 6th.
I wonder how will it run in Act 3 since DX11 is so much more performant than Vulkan and I assume they use either MoltenVK or straight Metal. It’s likely the reason for the delay.
9/6 is the PS5 date. Still no word from Larian on the Mac date - the last I heard was when they originally announced it would be delayed, and that they didn’t want to give a date and not meet it. What worries me is that they are willing to give these other dates - PS5 & Xbox - but not even a window for Mac.
They were touted as having their engine running on Metal, and it was one of the first major apps to port to Apple Silicon. The early access worked fine. Unless there was something in the later acts that really broke performance, I can’t see why they didn’t go ahead and release with the engine they had.

I just checked Wikipedia which I think I got it from and it states 9/6 but the link cited as source doesn’t state it anywhere.
They probably have no contractual date with Apple, so they’re prioritising the ones where they do. Also, PS5 and Xbox are both probably bigger markets than Mac.
I waas on the fence on getting a Switch, now that the price has dropped, but “Switch 2” has been rumored. I guess I won’t be getting a Switch then. Or whatever the next console will be.
I wonder if some games will perform better emulated, as the emulation would not need to put resources in to running Denuvo.
What do you consider performing better if emulated? Most switch games look and perform better on PC already due to upscaling. Some obviously have issues rendering though.
I mean that Denuvo WILL cause performance drops, and if said malware needs to be cracked and removed in order to emulate it, it means the emulators don’t have to bother emulating the built-in malware, and can instead use more resources to run the game. Even better than currently.
And will any of this help with piracy? Well, the average user will no longer be able to backup the official version, and you’d be breaking the law anyways, if you cracked it, so there is “no extra harm” skipping the part where you buy the official version, instead of just downloading the already cracked version. Sure, you risk getting malware, but with the official one you are sure to get malware.
[EDIT]: Let’s add: I don’t advocate for piracy, but if piracy is more convinient that the official route, it’s what will drive those who don’t mond pirating stuff.
I’d argue they exclusively make absolutely great games! The dig ones are two of my favorite short jump n runs and Steamworld Heist is just such a fun, easy to learn tactical rpgish game with an appropriate amount of tactics and depth. I hope the developer doesn’t burn out on the Steamworld franchise and probably get to expand the scope of their games!
I’m an old dude who actually had the original Atari 2600 and 7800 as a kid and loved playing games on them. I finished Pitfall 2 FFS. Those games have exactly zero appeal to me today.
I’m not entirely sure who this new hardware is supposed to appeal to. Would Atari 2600 purists go for this given the price tag and emulated games?
Tv has updated (although i do still have a crt for missile command and scope on the ol’ snes) but yup, the punch-button switch with the wood and metal chassis is my baby!
My first thought was “So Holland is just going to grunt and breathe or something?” Then i remembered that they made J&D games past The Precursor Legacy.
My second thought was that Chris Pratt won’t be able to do justice to Daxter. Get Billy West.
Let’s hope not. But I think they’d prefer a dedicated voice actor to replace him, as the logistics of Chris Pratt recording his voice lines between his acting commitments would cost too much for Nintendo.
It’s certainly pretty conspicuous timing, but the guy is also almost 70, and been doing the job for over 30 years. It’d definitely make sense for him to just figure it’s time to pull back.
I’m envious that you get to experience it for the first time. The Quake games are so worth it. Quake 3 becomes more arena-based but is an absolute blast to play online against people. It was a good chunk of my gaming life. 1 and 2 are FPS royalty. Simple and to the point.
I played the Quake games originally on the PC, but they’re great with a controller. Just dial the sensitivity in and you’re good. That’s always my concern because I mostly play on consoles now too, but Id and Bethesda put a lot of care into their gamepad layouts and settings.
I bought it on sale 6 months ago, I have 20h on my main save and 8h on the last expedition. I can confidently say that I haven’t seen 80% of the game activities, but at the same time I feel like I’ve seen everything. That game is truly an inch deep, it’s incredibly shallow.
game was absolute trash when it was released but after a few years it got a lot better - these days i hop into it once a month or so just to screw around. it’s a fun time sink
The game was such a scam when it released that I refuse to ever play it, I really don’t care if it’s playable now, you can’t reward these scammers with your money and hope they fix it.
You’re not kidding. Legit looks like someone just took the models from StarCraft and then freshened them up. Protoss Terran Zerg, all of them. In fact you could have removed the context and just showed me the raw footage and I would have arrived at the same conclusion, that it was a mod.
I think that the game exists because all the SC2 pros decided that the game is starting to become a bit too old and blizzard cannot be trusted with making games anymore so they gotta make starcraft 3 themselves.
You’re not wrong. Any and all faith I had in Blizzard went away over the course of the past decade, with it evaporating completely during the past 3 years. I don’t even want to think how they’ll muck up SC3 at this rate.
