chemical_cutthroat, w Steam's biggest free demo showcase is about to return (Steam next fest)
@chemical_cutthroat@lemmy.world avatar

Next fest is awesome. I wish we still had demo CDs, but this is a close second.

HidingCat,

Demo CDs are just a delivery mechanism, and I consider this way better.

Now the practice of giving a demo for a game, that does need to return.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

This is one of the benefits of PS+; you can demo almost anything since it just gives you 2 hours with the full game.

Steam (and other PC fronts/games) could do this. But it would also make it quite easy to pirate those, which is probably why they don’t.

Selmafudd,

Steam used to give a free auto refund with less than 2 hours of play time, donno if they still do.

Now I just pirate a game to check it out and if I’m still playing it when the next update comes out then I buy it

charles,

They do except there’s the additional condition of 2 weeks since purchase date. So as long as you’ve played less than 2 hours and purchased within 2 weeks, you’ll get an automatic refund (unless you abuse the system, but I’ve returned many games over the years and never had issues).

HidingCat,

I've had a game refunded at 3 weeks even, but it was under 1 hour of play time.

Kolanaki,

I’ve only taken advantage of this once. When I had VR, I got some utility program because it advertised being able to do something I was trying to do (I don’t remember what exactly), but it didn’t actually do that thing. I requested a refund after like 20 minutes of using it and it was pretty much instantly refunded.

Damn good policy, as long as you check out what you buy pretty quick to make sure it’s what you want, IMO.

simple, w Mario + Rabbids creative director wants to make a new Rayman game

I don’t understand why they ever stopped. Rayman Legends was amazing, and wasn’t it a big success? They keep porting it everywhere but I’d really love a sequel.

user_2345, w Dredge smashes internal expectations after topping 1 million sales

As soon as I heard cosmic horror…that’s all I needed to hear.

toasteecup, w Dave the Diver gets crabs and lobsters this month, among other new stuff, in its first content update

Hell yeah! I’m pretty stoked for this

Drbreen, w The Talos Principle 2 | Demo on Steam Available Now

Demo? What is this, 1998? Shouldn’t they just make you pre order and give you access 5 days early?

fartsparkles, w RoboCop: Rogue City | Open Demo Steam

Is it any good?

Rooty, w Meta Quest 3 demand allegedly 5 million units below expected level

So the complaint is that sales are not as large as the inflated projections. Have these clowns in three piece suits even tried their shitshow of a product?

NuPNuA,

Everyone I know with a quest speaks quite highly of it and how freeing it is compared to tethered headsets.

MrNobody,

Because the tether for the quest isn’t a physical one but a digital one.

Maajmaaj, w Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Getting offline mode
@Maajmaaj@lemmy.ca avatar

Fuck yeah! Between this game and darktide, I’ve been playing 40k games non stop. It’s so awesome that Inquisitor is only $10 on steam

Weylandyuta,

Yeah the definitive edition sale came in clutch. I only had the base game and the tech priest on PS5 but now I have the sororitas and the mission dlcs all for a tenner on steam. Should pair nicely with the steam deck.

pete_the_cat, (edited ) w CD Projekt Spent Roughly $125 Million Turning Cyberpunk 2077 Around Post-Launch

They did a pretty good job fixing it up… but it also took like 4-5 years. Some things I’m like “it took at least 5 years for you to think of implementing this??”

Edit: 5 years meaning it should have been added during the initial development.

100,

5 years? Mon frere it came out December of 2020.

pete_the_cat,

5 years meaning “from the start of development”. A lot of these things should have been there from the beginning.

narc0tic_bird, w Baldur's Gate 3 - Hotfix #9 Now Live

If by “geometry stretching” they mean polygons being rendered all over the place, that being fixed means Vulkan should be the better choice in most cases now.

I hope they optimize performance in act 3 though. The amount of NPCs and stuff going on in the world causes severe frame drops, even with my 7950X3D.

Cavemanfreak,

Have you tried setting the process priority to high? (Task Manager -> Details -> Right click BG3 -> Det priority to high). This got me a relatively smooth experience.

macisr, w Ubisoft just added Denuvo to Assassins Creed Mirage via a day-1 patch a few minutes ago. AFTER all the major reviews went online.

What is the point of that, do they have a contract with denuvo stating that they must apply it or are they just stupid or something?

CaptDust, w CD Projekt Spent Roughly $125 Million Turning Cyberpunk 2077 Around Post-Launch

Probably could have spent less if it was given more time to bake, glad they invested it though 2.0 really brought the game closer to where it needed to be. Still not what was promised back in 2018, but it’s playable and enjoyable enough now.

chicken, w Telltale Games has reportedly laid off most of their staff

The owner of the IP for TWAU made it public domain so in theory someone else could make the game.

PM_ME_FEET_PICS,

Not really. Telltale still holds the game license.

chicken,

Well at least they could make a game that expands on the story, since the story is based on the IP, even if they couldn’t use things specifically from the previous game or call it a sequel.

people_are_cute,
@people_are_cute@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

That was seriously such a badass move from him

Chozo, w CD Projekt appears to hint at more Cyberpunk content from Edgerunners studio Trigger

This is promising! I'm glad to see that the expansion has revitalized the love for Cyberpunk. I really hope they keep expanding on this franchise, Night City is just too good of an environment to not have those amazing stories put into the spotlight.

Pxtl, w Cancelled loot shooter Hyenas allegedly "Sega's biggest budget game ever", new report claims
@Pxtl@lemmy.ca avatar

I don’t get it. The game looked completely unremarkable. Even its big hook of having some microgravity stuff was barely present in the trailers. This was their big play? Really?

a “total lack of direction” around the game, with one contributor stating many members of the leadership team were “asleep at the wheel but they never seemed to lose their jobs”. The same source noted an engine change and “not committing to doing anything adventurous with the game” were all part of Hyenas’ ultimate demise.

Yeah, we can tell.

funkless_eck,

and gravity was done in a bunch of games - notably Borderlands Presequel but it was present in the original Quake.

Pxtl,
@Pxtl@lemmy.ca avatar

Well yeah, but there’s lots of ways to make that more interesting than just “set gravity really low in this zone”.
