I got back into Path of Exile a month ago, and that’s still going on. Last time I didn’t do more than finishing the campaign, but this time I’m well into end game and it’s great!
I’ve also started playing Siege Survival: Gloria Victis this weekend. You play as a couple of characters in a city that’s under siege. During the day you need to create supplies for the soldiers in your bastion, and during the nights you’ve got to sneak around the city and gather materials, or scout behind the enemey lines to get Intel for the next siege attack. It’s actually really fun!
Sim, arcade, simcade, anything. I’m kinda disconnected from the genre and want to know what is considered the GOATs of racing games to try them out....
Yeah. Kinda. Sometimes if you press slightly in the wrong place you get the cursor instead, which can easily lead to misclicks. But it’s definitely playable! A mobile port would be really dope though
You are not wrong, but remember that they only employ like 40-50 people. Even if the playerbase goes down to 10% of what it is that’s still not a lot of people.
My takeaway is that it’s only original Rogue fans that care about the delineation of the terms. Is there a modern (i.e. post 2000s game) that matches the definition of a roguelike as given in the article?
If you do like Wheel of Time it’s always worth giving Brandon himself a shot as well. He’s busy writing his own universe called Cosmere. It’s got a few different series based on different planets and magic systems that can mostly be read as standalones, but they are also connected in… let’s just say ‘certain ways’ for now. Mistborn is a popular starting point. Personally I think ‘Emperor’s Soul’ is better if you want to try out his writing style, since it’s only about 100 pages or so.
Have you been spending hours trying to pass a level? Or maybe you are completely addicted to a newly bought game. Do you have a question about a game or would like to share something else? In the Weekly Discussion Thread, you can do it all!...
I finished Jedi: Survivor last week. The story was really good, and all the systems are basically better than the first one. Definitely worth a playthrough.
Then I started playing Against the Storm (going in basically blind, only knowing it’s a roguelike city builder), and boy it’s fun. The only negative so far is that the rounds can take some time (1-2h if I’m unlucky) and I don’t always have time for a full run since I’ve got two kids taking up the biggest chunk of my day.
I agree with bitwaba. You’ll get the most out of the experience if you finish the first one. Easiest difficulty and only focusing on the story should get you through it in a couple of hours.
Edit: But also, if you really don’t want to there is a recap in the beginning of Survivor that I believe will catch you up ok. (not 100% if that’s enough to bring you up to speed, it’s been a couple of weeks since I saw it)
Yes and yes! At least for me. I’ve only got a 1060 6GB, but it managed 30-40 fps on medium in most places, which felt fine to me. I’ve heard that it’s the higher end cards that have been having problems though, so can’t comment on how that is now.

I’ve actually started playing Genshin Impact, and it surprised me how fun it is! And it’s nice to be able to play on the phone when travelling/sitting in the sofa, and then hop on the PC when the kids and wife has gone to bed.
I can see myself getting burned out in a few weeks as well. But so far the combat is really fun, and the stories are interesting enough to keep me playing.
Wheel of Time is not bad imo. At least not season 2. The thing with that series is that it’s not possible to adapt every single thing from 14 books to 8 seasons with 8 episodes. I went into it as a new turn of the Wheel, and while the first season didn’t do much for me, with the second one I can actually see the beginnings of something that can become really good. I’m cautiously optimistic about the coming seasons now.
I think it’d be really cool, and they could always make it so that the data never leaves your computer looks at the title and realising it’s EA we’re talking about Oh wait…
These could be games that left a lasting impression on you, games that had stellar gameplay mechanics, characters that captivated you, games that you played tons of hours on, etc.

After playing a few story heavy games I’m now playing modded minecraft, so that I can watch a show on my second monitor. I’ve also started trying out Genshin Impact, mostly on mobile. It’s surprisingly fun so far!
In case you’re out of the loop, the old Steam Deck had Philips screws that screwed into self-tapping plastic holes. This lead to occasional stripped threads and often stripped screwheads....
Eh, it sounds more like he wants then to go back to the roots and developer a groundbreaking game, like Portal, or HL2, again. Which doesn’t sound like a bad thing. To do something groundbreaking it probably helps if you dare to do something that is scary.
Yeah, you are correct, and that’s why I think he was talking about games specifically. That’s a grade A assumption from me though (and a bit of hopium?)
Have you tried setting the process priority to high? (Task Manager -> Details -> Right click BG3 -> Det priority to high). This got me a relatively smooth experience.
Both Morrowind and Oblivion were released as Xbox exclusives, so it’s definitely not a “major historically cross plattform franchise”. Only Skyrim was released for both (though Oblivion did get ported to PS later).
Fallout is another matter though, since they’ve been released for both since Fallout 3.
Apparently it’s nothing to do with changing the gender, only opening the character creation screen. So you can open that screen and then just close it, and it should work again. Weird bug though!
However, I read something about being able to change permissions on the install folder with some special terminal you can download, but I can’t remember the name… It was in one of the other Starfield posts from a few days ago (can’t be more than two or three right…?)
Voice and motion capture actor Neil Newbon, known to fans of Baldur's Gate 3 as Astarion, is streaming a co-op let's play of Baldur's Gate 3 alongside friend and horror writer-director Tom de Ville. He has pinned a comment on the first video saying audio won’t be a problem going forward. Not sure if that’s for the videos already out, or for a new batch of videos though, haven’t seen the first batch yet.
Sure, I could get started on Baldurs Gate 3, I’ve heard great things. But is the story great? Will I be able to say “oh that chapter/fight/act is awesome!” To other people looking for game experiences?
I can only speak for the first 1,5 acts (I think I’m getting closer to finishing act 2). The main story is good so far, but perhaps not the best. There are loads of great side quests, fights and even choices though. And you can complete most tasks in a myriad of different ways.
For me it’s first person puzzle games. I can think of maybe a dozen off the top of my head that came out in the last decade. I especially enjoy when they’re open world. The ability to just quit a puzzle that’s stumped you and go try something else for a little bit is incredibly refreshing.
My favorite game franchise is Monster Hunter but I currently have played enough of every game in the franchise to be burnt out and am looking for something new. What I like about MH is the action combat system, the small group multiplayer and although most MH games don't have it, I'd like a game similar to this that also...
It’s not made by Epic Games, it’s just the launcher they are using (to the annoyance of many of us who bought early access which had their own launcher). It was pretty good in EA, but I haven’t tried it since so I can’t say how it is now. Might pick it up on the switch to try it between Diablo sessions…
I grew up an avid gamer. But now, among my 50-hour work week, helping my kids with their math homework, grocery shopping, and house chores, I’m no longer able to find enough free time to really dive into a game. I mostly play casual games that I can drop in and out of but forget about the 40hr+ games requiring commitment....
My girls are still only 1 and 3, but so far I’m sneaking in an hour or two in the evening, after everyone else has gone to bed. I’ve started introducing the older one to Pokemon Go and Let’s Go Pikachu, and she loves it so far despite not knowing much english. Hopefully I can get them into gaming so we can have that in comon 😄
