I really don’t care about outdated graphics, but unless the exploration is brilliant, I don’t see much potential content. Combat looked ‘hack and slash’ without proper mechanism.
Its wild to me how they can go through all these extra compute steps to generate an extra frame and that’s some how more efficient that generating one normally.
It’s probably not that much faster than or efficient than traditional rasterization, but ray-tracing gets exponentially more expensive to absolutely completely fill in the scene. For the RT scenario it actually does make sense. Even rendering out frames and animations in blender you don’t let the renderer go on forever. At some point it’s more effective to let it stop and denoise it. The earlier you can get away with doing that the better.
It feels weird to be watching this conference in such high quality. I had forgotten just how many memes this conference spawned, but I do miss that awkwardness a lot of the mid-2000s E3 presentations had. They weren't just a guy in a suit talking about sales figures anymore, but they were still a long way from the more polished showcases we have today.
My most used features so far are vertical splitters, vertical nudging, and the new placement modes for conveyors and pipes. With an honorable mention going to conveyor wall holes, which also free up a lot of design options.
Honestly, though, just about everything in this update has been a godsend. Priority splitters are the only thing I haven’t really used yet. Even the elevators rock; being able to zoop up to 200 meters up or down in one go can make them useful even as a temporary yardstick for tall structures. (Also, I did end up needing to go 150 meters straight down to get at some resources and can confirm that elevators handle their intended purpose very well.)
That's the end of the Xbox showcase. It's lame that their last "big new reveal" was just another COD... Of course there's always going to be a new call of duty, but they hyped up the trailer like it's something new.
Looks like it could easily be my favorite game if they execute it well, love the expanse and very much want more of it after the show ended before finishing the books.
