The game came out of the blue for me, but I picked it up yesterday. The singleplayer experience so far is pretty nice. It’s not too difficult so far, the story is a bit basic but acceptable, and so far it runs great. I haven’t experienced any bugs so far either. I did see in the reviews that the multiplayer needs some balancing/tweaking though.
I played a few hours recently and it felt fine, the story did feel a little flat from what I played. I admittedly didn’t get far, maybe 18 or so levels, though.
I’m in the camp of ‘I’ll wait for reviews’ on this one. Indiana Jones is a character with a controversial past and many of his character traits are not exactly modern. The puzzle stuff looked kinda fun and I’d be interested to see just how many there are in the game. Solving what looks like a blood sacrifice bowl with a bottle of wine is neat. Or it will be if that isn’t a telegraphed narrative. If there are point and click vibes where you pick up a clown nose in the first ten minutes of the game and then use It in the 9th hour, that kinda puzzle-bypass would be great.
I will say, ‘The Great Circle’ is such a boring name when they have ‘Circuli Magni’ right there. They give a clear translation in the trailer but ‘Indiana Jones and the Circuli Magni’ is significantly more interesting. SEO considerations I guess.
I hope they fix multiplayer. Played the story and some more with friends in 0.9 and the delayed map switching and other bugs we ran into killed it for at least one of us. Good thing that person still wants to give it another try at release.
In a time where the “Remake syndrome” is spreading to the game market, anything new deserves a chance. I’ll wait for a pc version. It would be nice to play it on my Deck (≧ω≦)/
I don’t play too many JRPGs but I watched the whole trailer. The story and writing didn’t convince me but I could believe there are some characters among the one hundred on offer that are compelling.
I do love the art direction. A really smart blend of pixel art and 3D that is perfect to appeal to millennial nostalgia. I wish we got to see more of the combat, but at least the game systems they previewed seemed failry interesting and a variety of mini games is always fun. I do love me some good fishing, and there was a card game too?
They have already started showing ads of the game. It certainly looks pretty but nothing shown, so far, is technically impressive or even indicative of any actual game behind the visuals. Unless they plan to release it soon, this just feels like building up a huge hype train years ahead of launch and that they haven’t learned their lesson from NMS.
