I haven’t really played No Man’s Sky for years but every new update, I do a little mental salute to Hello Games. Launch hiccup aside, exemplary treatment of the game and community.
Granted the game hasn’t aged well, but for the time, it was the best game ever.
So much so that now, whenI see a new 007 game announced, I get a momentary feeling of “OH SHIT!” until I remember it’s not going to be as fun as being 14, staying up all night in the summer, eating lays potato chips, drinking coke, dragging your balls across the losers face and laughing at him as everybody else holds him down, watching WWF Raw live, and then WCW Nitro on VHS recorded hours before, playing the improv one word game that all stoners play instinctively, recording vhs game boy camera movies. The summer of 1997 and 1998 was magical.
For a brief moment, I get nostolgia anytime I see a new 007 game. Then I instantly remember it’ll never live up to those days of my youth, now in my 40s.
I'm excited, as I loved the first one. I'm not in love with the disconnect between visual designs in the the pre-rendered scenes and the gameplay, though; the cutscenes look like they're for a completely different title altogether.
Tag fighters aren't my thing and ASW are headed in the opposite direction of what I want from a fighting game, but I'm happy for them! They came a long way and more or less stuck to their guns, which's admirable.
I'm happy to go down with Plus R, P4AU, and Under Night though.
I'm glad Suda51 is still making new IPs, but I'm kinda over his gameplay? It needs to evolve somehow… like, melee here looks a lot like Killer Is Dead, which was serviceable, but not great.
Of course, everything else is captivating, as it always is, but I'll need more from the gameplay to get invested in this.
