5e wasn't tested past level 10. It's incredibly unbalanced. But I'm confident Larian could figure out a way for it to feel good.

Even a D&D campaign at this level is hard to DM, I cant imagine the complexity in trying to really gameify this when especially at the end your players are gods.

Cast wish, may as well just let players write their own code for what they want.

Sure bigger stronger enemies are available but parties become so powerful i can’t see it being easy.

Madison_rogue,
@Madison_rogue@kbin.social avatar

I would say just leave those aspects out of the game, or put strict limitations on their usage. You could isolate higher magic abilities to specific items (e.g. deck of many things).

It is complex, however I think if you look to games like Neverwinter as a template for moving forward (absent microtransactions).

tal, (edited ) do gaming w Baldur's Gate 3 is a 122GB download and you can't preload any of it
@tal@kbin.social avatar

Why do people care?

I mean, yes, all else held equal, I'd rather have a video game two days earlier or whatever, but this is way down the list of things I'd get worked up about.

Hell, the !@PatientGamers crowd waits for at least a year after release, at which point all the patches and whatnot are normally out, often sales are on, hardware to run a game tends to be cheaper, and often people have done substantial work on game wikis and the like. I can understand someone not wanting to wait for a year, but who can't handle a day or two?

EDIT: Or let me put another perspective on it. The release date is essentially arbitrary from a player's standpoint. Suppose some serious bug had shown up late in development -- which could easily have happened -- and that release date had been pushed back by five days. I doubt that anyone would have said anything, even though they would have gotten their hands on the game several days later. But the inability to preload making that same game show up playable a couple of days later has articles being written complaining about it. Why? The delay happens either way.

That’s insane. Let me get it on some kind of physical media.

RickRussell_CA, do gaming w Larian CEO's advice about origin characters has thrown my Baldur's Gate 3 playthrough plans into disarray

That they are trying to create a robust custom character experience AND a robust pregenerated character experience is pretty damn ambitious. They must be pretty happy about the results if they’re talking it up this close to the release date.

Dr_Cog,
@Dr_Cog@mander.xyz avatar

The pregenerated characters are just companions that you would have encountered, but won’t if you play as them. Not that ambitious IMO

This makes sense tho, the big cyperpunk expansion is out in 2 months. So once that happens they won’t need as much staff.

As their next release approaches, they’ll probably staff up again.

Unless it comes with the old fishing controller (and that controller is also compatible with the Big sections of Sonic Adventure), I'm not interested. Half the fun of fishing games is using a goofy controller.
