He is telling the truth. Then making people return to the office impacted blizzard's bottom line more then they thought and was a stupid decision that they should end ASAP.

well avellone claims obsidian was so poorly managed even if they got the bonus it wouldnt have helped the devs at all, most likely going directly to the obsidian execs pockets (same execs who denied more time on the game)
je sawyer blames himself for not focusing on playtesting and bug fixing until way way way too late in development
so im not sure why todd would feel guilty about it at all. obsidian still got paid in full and the fans got a great game out of the ordeal (after they fixed the bugs at launch)
Oh yeah I’m aware of that. It’s just that foundational game mechanics are still broken to this day lol. Like the game never really reached a polished state, without mods.
Let’s hope that he is doing open-world exploration right this time, instead of implementing a bunch of disjointed mechanics without a purpose to artificially lengthen the life of the game as a “sandbox”.
The marketer in the article — as with anyone else trying to do surreptitious marketing of this sort — is in the business of making hype that is hard to distinguish from buzz. If it were trivial to identify hype, he wouldn’t be in business.
If there are enough people who wait until after a game has been out for some time to play it, there will be marketers targeting that group too.
They might promote the thing based on value or something other than what the latest flashy game crowd gets, but put enough wallets together and there’s an incentive for someone to go after them. The astroturfing guy’s shtick was that he was targeting individual communities with crafted material to try to appeal to them. PatientGamers is another community.
