Considering his last post was about going to the hospital for a few days, over a month ago, I suspect he's not okay.

Regardless, I just cancelled my $5/mo donation towards the development of the kbin software. Seeing as how there hasn't been any development in over a month.

falsem,

It is a classic Roguelike

I get that Roguelike is basically a vaguely defined genre now, and though Torchlight 2 in a great game it's definitely not a "classic Roguelike".

falsem,

The reason I don't think it's all that in line with Diablo these days, though, is simply the pacing of the gameplay. You blow up screens of enemies at a time, and your deaths are often so fast that you're not really sure what killed you.

Yeah, that's why I don't care for POE anymore these days.

falsem,

Me too. There's little challenge or risk. Progression is really slow and can't really be sped up. Borderline an interactive screensaver.

falsem,

This is like Black and White mixed with Civilization.

falsem,

Pretty much, all I can think of is Steve Carrell yelling "but I hated it!"

  • falsem,

Is there anything backing up claims that it has AI generated assets?

    falsem,

I'm on Linux and Valve and Itch are the only ones with first class Linux support. Everyone else you have to dick around with running their launchers through wine or lose features.

    falsem,

Yeah, you're supposed to wait until you actually have a user base to enshittify it.

    falsem,

If you have proper full continuous deployment infrastructure setup then you can do minor updates of things like dependencies automatically. I'd guess that's what's happening here.

    falsem,

Yeah, "people don't like the racist authoritarian because she's a woman" sure is a hot take.

    falsem,

    And they're hemorrhaging money

    falsem,

Man, just imagine the shitstorm if a game launched at $50 on Epic, then a year later increased prices to $62 everywhere due to Steam's terms and conditions so that the dev could maintain the same profit from steam.

Of course that will never happen because there's zero consumer benefit and instead they just launch at $60 on Epic. If that did happen and the savings were benefiting the consumer then Epic might have a point.

    falsem,

I played the demo and got turned off by constantly saying "Orruk" instead of orc and lack of base building.

    falsem,

Did anyone read the quote. They literally stated this was part of the problem:

We know the characters require further work, as they are currently missing their LODs which affect some parts of performance. We are working on bringing these to the game along general LODs improvements across all game assets.

    falsem,

Paradox's first party titles generally have excellent Linux support and have for a long time. Can't swear that will be the case here but overall they're one of the best publishers for Linux.

    falsem,

Yeah, Bethesda games are the worst about this.

    falsem,

Erroneous bans, they intend to reverse them once AMD implements a fix:

AMD's latest driver has made their "Anti-Lag/+" feature available for CS2, which is implemented by detouring engine dll functions.
If you are an AMD customer and play CS2, DO NOT ENABLE ANTI-LAG/+; any tampering with CS code will result in a VAC ban.
Once AMD ships an update we can do the work of identifying affected users and reversing their ban. @AMD

I remember reading a preview for it back in 98. Completely different game than what we got.

Here's some preview footage from 1998. They clearly scrapped the game and started over at some point

    https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/wine-ge-custom

One dev does it in his spare time. I use it to run games that aren't on Steam like Ubisoft and Blizzard stuff.

But yes, as a software company you'd probably have to pay someone to create and maintain a similar release for your own use - but that's part of being a software company.

    falsem,

I feel like they've left out a lot of context

    falsem,

Buncha people think they know more about programming netcode than the developers.

    falsem,

We used to blame the Bethesda jank on their last engine, Game ryo. Safe to say that it's not the engine at this point.

    falsem,

That person ends up being the success or failure of the project. If they're doing a bad or mediocre job there's nothing that can change that course because you won't know that until it's too late. The flip-side is that it prevents 'design-by-committee' mediocrity and can allow people with bold visions to express those ideas.

Not counting games that were unfun because of bugs, what’s the most unfun video game that you’ve played and what made it unfun? (kbin.cafe) angielski

Most of the video games I’ve played were pretty good. The only one I can think of that I didn’t like was MySims Kingdom for the Nintendo DS. Dropped that pretty quickly. It was a long while ago, but I’ll guess it was because there were too many fetch quests and annoying controls.

    falsem,

I did it on the first or second attempt and I'm pretty mediocre. That shoulder gun you get from the ice worm mission trivializes most of these hard boss fights - you should give rocking two of them a try.

    falsem,

Well, they did the base game and the first two expansions so I'm glad they're doing this one. Though it is a bit surprising to see a 3rd expansion since I thought they were moving onto other things.

Maybe Farthest Frontier didn't sell as well as they hoped?

    falsem, (edited )

I've never played an Armored Core game before but I'm enjoying this one. What you're describing sounds fun too though.

    falsem,

Having your tutorial be a 10 minute video would be a bad tutorial

    falsem,

Yes, but that's interactive. I don't have an issue with longer interactive tutorials, more "sit here and watch a video" style.

    falsem,

Most of their fan base these days doesn't know about their past games like Divinity: Dragon Commander

What games have you played in the last 365 days that stand out to you as the most memorable experiences?

I think the most common answer is going to be Tears of the Kingdom, and that is one for me that stands out for sure, but I will try to add some more unique inputs as well. Many are games that came out longer than a year ago, but i didnt get around to playing until more recently....

    falsem,

I was a big fan of Frostpunk but Ixion is damn hard, I think I failed around the 3rd or 4th level 3 times before giving up? It's really easy to get into a cascade failures in that game and the space you have to build in is much smaller than it looks at first. That was before they added the easy mode though so maybe I'll try it again at some point.

    falsem,

Objectively I think this game SHOULDN'T have worked in so many aspects. But it obviously does and it's truly genre-defining.

    falsem,

They got really lucky with that Zeus special boon at the beginning.

    falsem,

    Yeah, blame your customers.

Simplifying is really different from what they did which is completely alter characters, unnecessarily kill off characters, introduce new plots that didn't exist, etc. The Lord of the Rings movies, and the recent Dune movie both did a lot of that but are considered fantastic adaptations. Even Game of Thrones was an excellent adaptation for the first ~5 seasons and had huge mass market appeal while still being complex.

This is just shitty writers making excuses.

    falsem,

    I liked it.

    falsem,

Combat is completely different in BG3. I don't know why people keep comparing it to real time with pause games, they're practically different genres.

New trailer for my personal project. I wish I could quit my job instead of spending nights and weekend days working on it. (www.youtube.com) angielski

Think of the game as Vampire Survivors, but instead of you having to move and all the skills are passively activated, now you just stay in one place, but you must actively use the skills. That makes sense because the game has tower defense theme, as the name suggested. There is another difference though, it’s how players...

    falsem,

Game isn't bad overall. Biggest downside is that the open world content is sleep-inducingly easy.

    falsem,

2004 was also a really good year

    falsem,

The author misquoted them in a strange way. Is this AI lol.
