The game is really good, like the Pandora version of FarCry Primal (last FarCry I actually played) but with better graphics und new fun gameplay elements like flying and an awesome open world. But if you are an Avatar fan the game is fucking amazing and an absolute must have imho.

Also the graphics and optimization are really awesome, rocking 110+ fps on a 6900XT on 1440p with FSR 3 and frame generation with everything on high or ultra.

So definitely would give this an 7.5 or 8 for normis and a solid 9 for Avatar fans.

I saw someone playing it and aside from the window dressing you’re left with a generic fps where you strafe side to side.

I might have considered buying a Ubisoft game for the first time in years if this was more like Horizon, or something other than this.

VelvetStorm,

The amout of the reviews that just feel like they are sucking up to AAA companies in this post are ridiculous.

detinu,

Exactly, it looks like such a bland and generic open world game. From what I can gather it’s basically Farcry in Pandora.

Tibert, do games w Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora - OpenCritic Review Thread

Hmm, from the average and some reviews here and there, it’s sad the game is just mixed.

It’s the first to get out with fsr 3 frame gen working mostly well. Fsr upscalling working mostly well, which is very unexpected due to a lot of foliage.

Tho the ui protection to frame gen was implemented in a very shitty way (just a box without frame gen arrount it…).

So it really is just another Far Cry. I’ve barely seen any gameplay and that was my immediate reaction.

Slightly cryptic headline, I was able to get the gist of it when I saw the page is called “open critic”.

Damn they got away with it huh. Not surprising, they always do.

I played one match in the open beta before uninstalling. Gunplay felt super basic, just waves of generic enemies to shoot with mediocre gunfights.

Tbf PD2 was the same way yet I had tons of fun with it. At some point the horde shooting is just about overall performance and resource management, not combat itself, while the main gameplay is doing the objective alongside it. I preferred going with stealth most of the times anyway.

That being said, if the objectives sucks and combat is unchanged then there's nothing to make it actually fun and yeah, that's an issue.

Edgelord_Of_Tomorrow,

Never understood the appeal of a game purportedly about bank robberies being mostly about killing literally hundreds of cops, it’s not so much unrealistic as it is completely farcical. It would be like Al Qaeda flying a plane into the WTC and everybody in New York going about their business like normal the next day.

GentlemanLoser,

I don’t think they meant they had a problem with the depiction as much as the execution (no pun intended)

I wouldn’t trust OpenCritics to tell me if a game is really shit or not.

Starfield and Diablo 4 are rated “mighty” there and I find them rather “meh”.

OscarRobin,

Open Critic doesn’t tell you anything, it just aggregates everyone’s scores. If you don’t like the scores then blame the critics.

Skwerls,

The problem is what passes as a critic is really really loose. Some of the reviews they get on there are pretty cringe.

OscarRobin,

I mean, isn’t the point of OpenCritic to get as wide an opinion base as possible? Of course you’ll have a bunch of weird ones in there, but you hypothetically get the best overall view of a game.

vsh,

Yeah, remember first reviews of Starfield? I’ll never trust reviewers again (to some extent but still).

Man I just knew it wouldn’t go all to well

fckreddit,

Online only rarely does.

Daefsdeda,

I’m just sad. When I first played payday 2 it was on my crappy laptop. I had to turn everything to its lowest (even resolution) and turn off my internet (this really made it playable). I am sad to see that some kid will not be able to do the same one day.

How does any critic keep a positive score up for a non functioning game? Oh yeah, MONEY.

Seems like the largest criticisms are that the Bloodborne inspiration is a little too obvious/heavy-handed and the usual discourse around soulsbonre difficulty, both of which can very much be positives depending on personal preference. Personally I’m very down for some spiritual successors since Sony hasn’t been doing anything with Bloodborne, and the difficulty was perfect for me in the demo (and I have to give them credit for putting out a comprehensive 2+ hour demo, that was a real breath of fresh air). Glad it seems like they pretty much hit the mark on what they were going for.

Wootz,

"“All in all, although Lies of P is essentially Bloodborne featuring Timothée Chalamet…”

I don’t even need the rest of that sentence

rockerface,

Finally, we can have Bloodborne on PC
