steeznson,

Interesting to hear about Sawyer moving from a humanities / liberal arts degree into self-taught coding. I followed the same kind of path (although have been far less successful than he has!)

They nailed it with this game. It’s glorious. Every historical detail is spot-on and the “bestiary” style is a feast for the eyes.

Best sidequests in the Fallout games? angielski

I’m doing a playthrough of 3, New Vegas, and 4. Mostly focused on beating the main quests and the DLCs but I want to make sure I hit the best side quests on the way. I’m making my push to finish 3 right now and I’ve finished the DLC, Oasis, cannibals, vampires, ant quest, the other ant quest, and a bunch of stuff I’m...

steeznson,

Fallout 1 is probably a more complete piece of art but the 2nd one dials up the zany sense of humour and the quirky side quests.

steeznson,

Yeah I’ve had issues playing GOG games on linux using arch/gentoo because the libs that the game wants to dynamically link are often not where it expects. It’s possible to resolve it but the Steam approach where they distribute a static bundle of libs into ~/.local/share is much less of a headache.

Presumably Galaxy could solve this problem and make Linux more viable. The dynamic linking of the libraries has been more of an issue than the missing Proton integration for me. Often it is easier to install GOG games with wine and take the performance hit!

steeznson,

Could be licensing or decreased server costs with smaller executable downloads? Not sure without being a fly on the wall at GOG.

Static vs dynamic linking is a huge, flame war-triggering debate in software. Like the original vim vs emacs.

steeznson,

Maybe they should have named it Ryujinx or something else that sounds less phonetically like “you sue”

steeznson,

Please tell me you are not referring to the iconic Croc in this manner

What games do you recommend for my girlfriend? angielski

My girlfriend has never really gamed. But she’s now forced to move less than she would like to (health problem) and she’s getting bored. I was thinking of introducing her to a game or two that we could play together. She’s not the real action game type, and seeing as she has no experience with controller/mouse and keyboard...

steeznson,

My partner used to be a teacher. There was a period of like a year when she would get home from work looking insanely stressed. Then she’d boot up Stardew Valley on her laptop from the couch and I could see her mood change immediately. She’d play for hours too.

At one point it was like Stardew Valley was her real life while the actual outside world was some horrible nightmare she had to wake up from.

steeznson,

This game was the most AA shit I’ve ever seen. In the PS2 days it would have got a 7.5 average from most reviewers then it would have had a not-insignificant number of people pick it up.

They are delusional for thinking a UE5 asset flip is a AAA game.

steeznson,

P3 FES is my favourite Persona game so extremely keen to try this out (after Infinite Wealth).

steeznson,

I could imagine a worse pitch where it is a survival/crafting game too

steeznson,

The artist who made this teaser image should get a raise

Many players have become "patient gamers". What are games people might miss out on by waiting for sales? angielski

Sales follow the tradition of supply and demand. Products come out at their highest price because of expectations and hype. Then, as interest wanes, the publisher continues to make some sales by reducing price to tempt the less interested parties....

steeznson,

I am currently waiting for Alan Wake 2 to go on sale on Xbox. In the meantime I’ve been catching up with their older games - I’m in the post-game for Control and about 1/2 through the original AW.

Also, the new Prince of Persia is not out yet but will probably be leaving it until it goes on sale. To be honest there are only a few developers that I would buy new games from: first-party Nintendo, some Sega devs (Vanillaware, Atlus).

steeznson,

One of the DF guys was pointing out recently that all of these handheld PCs have names like 90s graphics cards

steeznson,

I did not enjoy the combat in the D:OS Larian games because I was so used to real-time with pause combat from the old Infinity Engine games. Will grab BG3 when it goes on sale in a year or so.

steeznson,

I bought Touhou Artificial Dreams In Arcadia during the October sale and it is a bit of a hidden gem for fans of the old SMT JRPG games on SNES. I also picked up Lunacid but have not got that far in it, but it seems like a strong revival of the classic Kings Field games.

steeznson,

I realise this is strange to comment on a 2 hour video but Noah is at his best when he keeps the scope of his video narrow and (moderately) focused like this.

steeznson,

Atreus pipes up to tell you to crush the half naked lady under a giant cog after you’ve been in the puzzle room for 10 seconds.

steeznson,

Anyone got recommendations for cheap or interesting indie games this sale?

steeznson,

I never played the DLCs or the Shovel Knight adjacent games they made (think there was a puzzler?) but I loved the original when it came out. Might be time to dive back in to that world.

steeznson,

As an adult I’ve looped back around to the DS. Never really appreciated it as a young teenager but it has an amazing library. Ace Attorney and Devil Survivor have racked up a lot of play time from me in the past few years.

steeznson,

It depends on the game. Dolphin seem to be struggling with movie tie-in Gamecube games still judging by some of their blog posts. There was some awful game called Haunted Mansion or similar that they couldn’t get working because playing it to find the bugs was such a chore.

steeznson,

Unreal is being used extensively by special effects teams in Hollywood at the moment so it sounds like Epic are trying to get a piece of that action
