shit like that is annoying, especially if the game does not really need an online connection if you want to play solo. It seems like you already played it, is it possible to habe multiple characters in the game like two Deadshots or Boomerangs?
maybe it’s not that bad? I mean the only big outlet who actually think its that bad and is riding this meta is IGN and I dont understand why people suddenly follow IGN or give a shit about their review/oppinion so much. Youtubers like Skillup for example actually liked the game, it sure won’t be a GOTY nominee or will get 9’s and 10’s, but I personally still can have fun with a 7 out of 10 which where I see the game could be landing.
It might just be in-context. For all I know it’s a quite solid live service game now - unlike in the previews, which were truly terribly bad and laughable.
But that’s the thing, it’s still a soulless and styleless and barely suicide squad live service game. But the bar for those is so low overall, this might be quite good in comparison, so if you enjoy the near-endless time investment and this is your genre of choice for those, this might be a good fit for you. Personally I have FFXIV for that, so eh, not really interested at all. 🤷

Gameplay looked quiet fun to be honest and I always like a good coop game. And gameplay is actually the thing I care for, this is also one of the reason I quit FF14 after 800+ hours because in the end it was just a “run to the next text passage” in between the LFG instead of actual gameplay but I have Guild Wars 2 for this.
But how long do you wanna fight the same 2 or 3 enemies and do e different missions, of which most seem to be escort missions. The gameplay can't ve that fun. And it's a 70 dollar game
If they nailed the 30s gameplay loop it could be fun. Of course the rest like the loot also has to work, because of their service game approach and therfore I wait for final reviews.
From what i saw, the gameplay looks kinda fun and the story isn't cringe and alright. But man, i wouldn't rate a game that high that has 3 enemies and 3 different missions. Apparently the boss fights are even more of a joke. So it's just game journalism
Watched a few reviews now and … it seems very disappointing. Some good ideas in there, but the characters aren’t who they are, guns are all anemic and samey stat vessels, enemy variety is inexistent, and the core endgame loop is boring and clearly just exists to sell you mtx.
What a shame.
At least with the tepid reviews (60/100 at time of writing) plus the low player count, there’s a good chance this’ll not be long before it is put out of its misery.
I still dont believe that this game is as bad as people want to make it and I’m quiet surprised that my youtube timeline is full of spoilers for it (and I only watched Skillup’s video, so I dont know where this is coming from), as in people want to actually ruin the game for everyone. I think I will pick it up as soon as I’m done with Guild Wars 2 which, let’s be honest here, will be never…
Fun story but don’t expect much more out of it. Solid 7.
I must say I had more fun with some of these 7 out of 10’s than with any Breath of the Wild, Red Dead Redemption or Elden Ring. So nothing wrong in getting a 7 out of 10.
I tend to prefer clicking through the unscored reviews first since I find that it’s generally a mark of a quality outlet. Rock Paper Shotgun in particular is an old favorite of mine, so their’s is the first review that I clicked on and let me tell you guys: it’s a real firecracker!
Matt clearly didn’t have a good time and I had to respectfully disagree with a lot of the points he’s made, but even so… his points are well-articulated and sensible. I’m rather glad for his uncommon perspective on the topic and I do think that RPS ultimately picked the right writer for the job. He hasn’t particularly changed my mind about a day-one purchase, of course – the main difference is now I’ll have a more nuanced and realistic expectation for what’s inside.
Mm, “it plays itself” is a common, reductive argument against turn-based combat that I don’t think is helpful.
Otherwise, I think this review is mostly okay for those new to the series (or the genre). Saying that he had a motivated start is interesting, as the story’s notoriously slow start is a frequent complaint about the earlier versions (and the series in general).
It’s good to see a new player in the mix, though the reviewers who are familiar enough with the original games to outline what is missing were the most valuable to me. The missing content makes this a “wait for a sale” purchase for me.
I took his criticisms of the combat as basically saying “this system is not interesting enough to form a satisfying gameplay loop”. That’s a critical statement which I actually agree with, though from my perspective that’s a key part of Persona’s core design: neither the combat system nor the social link system are endlessly enjoyable, so the player is intrinsically motivated to avoid lingering for too long and properly close the core gameplay loop by advancing the calendar. It’s that sort of pendulum-like cadence which gives the series its unique sense of momentum.
I do think that it’s a shame RPS’s Matt was unable to find joy in P3R’s gameplay loop due to disliking the social-link system… but I also see it as an opportunity to better understand the game as a holistic package in a way that can’t be achieved through a more carefully measured, quantitative analysis. The way I see things, the game is the game – I’m much more interested in understanding what’s in the game rather than what’s not, if that makes any sense.
Yeah same. I disagree with a whole lot, but it’s refreshing to see that perspective, and in a lot of ways that tells me much more how the rework is (knowing the base game) than the more “positive” reviews.

No. Game switched it’s english title from Yakuza to LAD, just like it is in japanese. From now on it would be like that.
Gaiden was a shorter prologue game. IW is on the longer side and seems like it’s bigger than LAD. Plus Judgment 1-2, originally exclusives, found their way to Steam just recently.
I had the exact same impression but they had a long string of remasters to churn out for PC. Gaiden is more like a standalone expansion but swings like a main installment in content.
I am very curious to see how the release schedule changes with devs moving into full blown top seller JRPGs instead of story focused beat-em-ups.

It feels like they threw Japan’s Hawaii into the mix. And I enjoy the story for sure. That downgrade in graphics, where you can go. When 2 let me enter familiar buildings I was pleasantly surprised.
Sounds like we are in precisely the same boat. I found 3 is a great match for Steam Deck, and feels right at home on that small screen (and runs great).
I enjoyed the demo and I’m looking forward for the next entry. The comment about dungeons having some issues worries me a bit because the grind was terrible in LaD:7 if you want to max out stats.

I’m still about halfway through Like a Dragon 7, but i’m really burnt out from playing all the games prior to it, so i’ll be taking a look at 8 at some point later
Playing this now, the game is not bad at all, it’s just… massively disappointing?
It is just a skin over a Far Cry, with a lot of mechanics weakened to make space for the skin.
That being said, on the flipside, fucking hell is it the prettiest skin anyone ever made for any video game to convert it into another IP. Pandora comes to live like even the second movie could not achieve it, and walking between NPCs and through the jungle is utterly magical.
I would argue that if you get this cheap and you like Far Cry and in particular Pandora as a world, go for it. It’s not bad at all. But do not expect anything but a watered down Far Cry (which, granted, is an achievement in itself 😂).
