Genshin has some cool tricks like shell texturing for moss. A very good cell shader and custom vertex normals on the characters, making it a lot of work to recreate. Also it runs on mobile so it is heavily optimised, which also takes more time.
I would put Ori 2 on this list since similar to hades it has a destinct artists style and many 3d layers on top.
But the hardest to recreate by far not just visually but movement wise and ai and procedural animation is Rain world. Just look at the naking of it is insane how much custom tech this game has.
P.S.: Do you agree with me that the art styles of Hades and Genshin Impact are hard to recreate? I may be wrong but since I'm not an artist at all, I may be right too.
I haven’t played Genshin Impact, but from what I recall from trailers, there are many anime game with similar art style. I am currently playing Atelier Ryza, and I believe it has similar art style too.
Even with Hades, I don’t think the art style is difficult, but a lot of effort has gone into visuals of that game. There is lots of detail in everything. So, maybe in that sense it can said to be hard to reproduce.
The sheer amount of attention to details that the game has is just pure insanity The game has special sound effect that plays, to let you know that the flying homing skulls are literally right behind you, just so that you don’t have to look behind you all the time to know if they’re near or not The complete lack of a user interface yet the game still communicates extremely well how everything works by just… throwing it at you and letting you experiment
On Lemmy, users can send each others direct messages. It seems like Kbin/Mbin has no way of displaying those direct messages. Is that correct or is there a way to show direct messages?
Direct messages exist on kbin/mbin, but users are currently unable to send or receive them from other instances than their own. Sending is implemented but intentionally disabled by ernest, for unknown reason, but it might have to do with receiving not working.
Mbin has an open issue on this and yesterday someone said it's planned but low priority. It also links to the related kbin issue.
I think it’s cultural differences. In the west, we abhor pay to win and predatory aspects. But in Korea, China and other countries in that region, players demand it.
So then it comes down to which market region you’re targeting. If you’re not a NA/EU mobile developer, how do you choose? 🤷♂️ Can’t keep everyone happy.
Not that it succeeded long term, but I salute Apple Arcade’s venture on this. It’s a subscription service that aimed to highlight iPhone games that had no monetization, and were usually small indie games with a fun idea.
CoD mobile is good… when played in an Android emulator on PC. It’s basically CoD: Greatest Hits, and it’s way better than Black Ops 6 (or any console/PC CoD, for that matter). All the best maps from the old games are there. Takes me back to the days of MW1 & 2 on the XBOX 360.
The only issues is that it takes some tweaking and the right emulator (Gameloop) to get a steady 120+ FPS, and it can take dozens of matches before game starts pairing you with other mouse and keyboard players (instead of just bots or controller/touchscreen users), but once you’ve established your rank, it becomes ton of fun cause you’re not just destroying everyone you match against. It becomes a legit challenge.
(But seriously, what are you asking here? Is it for the same audience? Is it similar enough that if you like one you’ll like the other? Are the gameplay mechanics similar? Your question is not specific enough.)
