The Henry Stickmin Collection is a set of games that were on Newgrounds that is a choose your own adventure game with a ton of references to other things. From Marvel VS Capcom 2's Ironman Infinite combo to Jojo.

It's made by the same developers as Among Us

Alan Wake, Control, and especially Alan Wake 2. AW2 even has a legally distinct Max Payne with both the likeness and the voice of the original.

teawrecks,

What do you mean legally distinct? You know that’s Sam Lake, writer and creative director at Remedy, and face model for Max Payne 1/2, both also developed by Remedy?

rtxn,

I know. Rockstar acquired the rights to Max Payne at some point before releasing Max Payne 3. Remedy couldn’t just include a character they didn’t own, but they couldn’t stop Sam Lake being Sam Lake either. Plus Casey being the knock-off of two out-of-universe characters is funny.

teawrecks,

Ah, I guess I didn’t know they didn’t have the rights anymore. Tbh I played through AW2 and didn’t connect that Casey was a reference to Max Payne lol.

rtxn,

It’s a bit more obvious if you’ve played through AW1 and Max Payne recently. AW1 contains a couple of excerpts from Wake’s book The Sudden Stop, starring detective Alex Casey. They are written in the exact same style as Max Payne, and narrated by James McCaffrey, Payne’s VA.

They are 20 years old at this point but the original Guild Wars was full of pop culture references.

I’m not surprised, he’s the director of strategy for the publisher offbrand games whose biggest game is live service after all.

Is this all his fault alone? No, but if someone starts spewing bullshit excuses and makes up lies about my objectives to his millions of followers, I feel like it is important to correct him, and call him a doo doo head.

Duamerthrax,

Too little too late, but his onlyfangs(or whatever it’s called) drama really cut into his CCV. He tried beating Neuro-sama’s hype train on twitch, failed, and made a bunch of petty excuses. He can’t maintain his facade anymore.

rtc, do gaming w Why video game preservation is important?

Because I like to play a game I paid for, which will run on my hardware. Especially when I avoid all the modern live service is a necessity horseshit. If people are not confident in releasing new games which others would buy despite having old games, I will stop buying games.

Let them do better or eff off.

Limonene, do gaming w What game of the 2020s do you think that will top the "best games of the decade" lists in 2030?

Elder Scrolls 6 will no doubt be polarizing, with some calling it the game of the decade, and others saying that the TES formula just doesn’t work anymore. (The game might also just suck.)

Burghler,

Bethesda has little chance to succeed with anything but a routine fumble 😞

Wrrzag,
@Wrrzag@lemmy.ml avatar

I think the problem won’t be the formula, it’ll be the progressive dumbing down and simplification that Beth is doing since like forever. It will sell well just because it’s TES, though. Also, if Emil “lol who cares about lore” Pagliarulo is leading the writing and he treats it like he did with FO4…

I just wish I could get more into it. I’ve removed it and reinstalled it several times, but I just can’t get as interested as I wanted to be. I love RPGs and the fantasy genre, but turn-based? Not so much.

PrimeErective,

Honestly, same. I want to play it so bad, but never liked turn based stuff

brucethemoose,

I hate turn based combat too, but it was super enjoyable in coop. And it’s quite good for being turn based.

It’s also real-time outside of combat, FYI.

For solo, I’d probably get the mod that automates your companions, and reduce the difficulty to your taste to compensate.

I’m gonna guess this guy isn’t very effectual in the whole matter. Though I only learned of his existence in the last few days.

Has he met with lawmakers or made counter petitions or anything like that? Should we really fear him? Or are people just venting because the initiative is struggling to succeed?

FilthyShrooms,
@FilthyShrooms@lemmy.world avatar

He became really popular in a short amount of time, and he did more damage to the public perception than anything. Wayyyy more people followed pirate software rather than the stop killing games movement, and he pretty much just shit on it to an audience who never heard of it before.

I’m not super knowledgeable about the details of SKG, but from my understanding you need to get a lot of signatures and public backing for the UK government to actually pay attention, and pirate software basically killed any and all momentum the movement had, right when it was getting started too.

ImplyingImplications,

Or are people just venting because the initiative is struggling to succeed

It’s this one. He lives rent free in people’s minds because he made a video 9 months ago that has 1 million views where he says he doesn’t support it because it would cause undue burden on developers. Focusing on YouTuber drama is really taking away from the message of consumer rights.

FilthyShrooms,
@FilthyShrooms@lemmy.world avatar

There’s more to it than that. It’s not because Thor was publicly against SKG, it’s because he misrepresented the entire situation to his much larger audience. The reason there’s a big focus on this now instead of 9 months ago is because Ross (the creator of SKG) specifically didn’t want it to become “youtuber drama”. The reason it’s happening now is because the SKG movement is almost over and has been struggling, and Ross put out a video explaining how Pirate Software mislead his audience and actively turned public perception against SKG right when it was building momentum.

ImplyingImplications,

And now it’s YouTuber drama.
