Live service games that start getting long in the tooth adding too much content.

There’s plenty to hate on with Dead by Daylight, but I was at one point pretty good at it both killer and survivor. Eventually I started to feel there were too many perks and characters to keep track of and I lost interest.

I felt the same about Team Fortress 2 when they started adding new weapons. That’s probably not a popular opinion but the initial updates tying weapon unlocks to achievements really soured me on the game, permanently. I stopped playing.

OP, you would love the Steam Deck, or in a few months the Steam Machine. Or any other PC with Steam for that matter. With Steam Input you can rebind the controls of even the most stubborn game.

Doc_Crankenstein,

Unfortunately, I have a PC but can’t use it cause of circumstances which don’t allow me space to set it up.

I do prefer PC over console for this very reason. PC is just better with customization and accessibility thanks to the option for modding and stuff.

CriticalMiss,

Well, a Steam Machine might be perfect for your usecase then, it’s small so you can replace your console and enjoy it, as well as Steam Input.

Doc_Crankenstein,

Money. Disabled unemployed. Very limited funds that are pretty much keeping me fed and the occasional $5-$10 game on sale if I treat myself.

Steam Machines are just gonna be priced like a regular computer and still needs a setup. If I’m playing PC I’m using my mouse and keyboard. I much prefer it over a controller with my fingers how they are.

100% one of my favorites of all time. Newer Mario Kart iterations never quite hit that same vein of fun, though I could never figure out why. Probably something to do with it being a formative part of my childhood?

Also, my best racer was always Bowser: slow acceleration, but could make everyone spin out at a glancing blow was my way of winning 😂

MyNameIsAtticus,
@MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world avatar

I think Mario Kart 64 is honestly just very foundational of a Mario Kart. Besides the controls being iffy, it really just plays well, has solid all around courses, music, and a nice selection of characters. Plus it’s where we see a lot of the modern powerups i think

BazaarMonk,
@BazaarMonk@lemmy.world avatar

Dude! I know. I’m so excited. I absolutely love the franchise. Metroid Dread was also an absolute banger.

NOT_RICK,
@NOT_RICK@lemmy.world avatar

I had so much fun with dread earlier this year. It motivated me to buy and mod an original GBA so I could finally beat the copy of Fusion I’ve had since I was a kid. That really got the ball rolling on me finishing as many Metroids as I can ahead of Prime 4. I think I’ve finished 4-5 now. Still haven’t done Super Metroid, which everyone tells me is the best, but I’m a snob and I want to get a Super Nintendo controller to play it with.

BazaarMonk,
@BazaarMonk@lemmy.world avatar

Nice! Yeah, I’ve played all the Metroids except for Other M. You will not be disappointed with Super Metroid.

NOT_RICK,
@NOT_RICK@lemmy.world avatar

Not surprised you skipped other M. I haven’t heard a single good thing about that one

BazaarMonk,
@BazaarMonk@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah same here.

I’ll pop in and say the mechanics of pointing the wiimote at the screen from using it as a horizontal controller in order to go into a first person mode was kina fun. It was also the (first?) Metroid game to use the parrying system that was also used in Dread, which is super satisfying. It also had a boss fight that was a near direct reference to one of the Alien movies, which was original inspiration for Metroid. But the story sucked, and I think we have all rightfully retconned it, as Samus is an awesome bounty hunter, not a lame little baby.

SabinStargem,

You might want to try AM2R if you haven’t already. It is basically Metroid 2, but fully remade to be like Zero Mission mixed with Prime scanner lore.

I’ve heard of that, but never played it. I did play the remake Samus Returns and really enjoyed the simplistic story of just hunting down Metroids.

Besides all the already mentionend games: Shadow Complex (2009) was a good game back then. Nothing special without any real story. But it was fun to play

La-Mulana was great. Maybe not for everyone. It’s loaded with puzzles.

sleepmode,

That’s a gentle way to put it 😆. But I agree it’s so great. Need to get back into it at some point.

ExtraMedicated,

Yeah… It’s pretty brutal. I needed to consult a walkthrough even for subsequent playthroughs.

r/place made me hate Osu! players.

fushuan,

Because they wanted to have their circle? It was small compared to other ugly things c’mon.

Linktank,

Because they were clearly using bots to do it.

Cybersteel,
@Cybersteel@lemmy.world avatar

It’s not as if someone made an LLM out of an Osu bot or anything.

colderr,

Well, there was a big fight between BTMC and xQc. It was a massive event (relatively speaking), so that’s why everything happened so quickly and immediately always. But I wouldn’t be surprised if some people used bots to help out, but I know that most were real people who just sat there and waited for another pixel.

fushuan,

They were a pretty active community, and the first to develop the browser extension that helped you colour each pixel correctly. Then everyone used it. Idk, they were heavily attacked from all fronts because weeb. I don’t think they were botting. There were plenty way more complex projects that finished way too fast for them not to be botted for you to hate the OSU! community that much.

LaLuzDelSol,

Was it though??

tgirlschierke, do games w What is your favorite Metroidvania?

Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth is a fantastic experience.

ICCrawler,

Wut.

Looked this up. Can’t believe Record of Lodoss War got a game in 2021. I remember watching the 1990 anime on Toonami’s online-only list of anime at the time, along with Harlock Saga. Both old school AF.

YiddishMcSquidish,

I remember playing the Dreamcast Diablo style game my college roommate had!

tgirlschierke,

Funnily enough, I had the opposite experience. Was shocking to me to find out that the lore wasn’t originally from Wonder Labyrinth.

Phelpssan,

All three metroidvania games from that developer are great. The other two are Touhou Luna Nights and Blade Chimera.
