Not sure it strictly counts as Grand Strategy as it’s more of a sandbox, but X4 might be up your alley on the sci-fi front. Build a galaxy spanning empire from a single ship; complete missions, mine, trade, explore. You -can- fly the ships, but you don’t have to. You can just sit in a station issuing orders.
Anyway I finished another game! This time chants of senaar. This game is sooooo good. One of my faves all time id say. Scratches the obra dinn outer wilds itch.
Yeah, really great game. Without getting into spoiler territory, I appreciate how there’s that one thing that every society in the game appreciates and it’s what brings them together despite their differences, most of which were down to (obviously) lack of communication. It’s just this simple, yet emotional touch of humanity that unites them all over the course of the game.
Anyway, as for me, I finished up Song of Farca, which was a fun little experience. Then I played Overboard!, a darkly humourous narrative/interactive fiction/puzzle game about getting away with murder.
Took me a little while, but I successfully murdered the husband, got the insurance, tied up all loose ends, and got a delicious snack as a bonus.
A friend of mine was an avid online poker player. He says the AI systems beat humans all the time, and that the platforms countered with AI AI detection systems which allow for a maximum tolerance of winning hands that is considered human level. As a response, players using AI systems added deliberate error rates to hide from the detection.
If they’re worthless then, why play at all? If they are scarce, convey any kind of status on the platform or unlock anything at all, then i assure you there will be someone gaming the system.
Poker requires gambling something with at least symbolic value, or else people don’t care about winning or losing hands and just go all in recklessly all the time.
For some reason I can’t put down Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire. I’m playing it on my handheld emulator so it’s very easy to just pick up and play a round when i have some spare moments. Pinball has never been my favorite genre, but the loop of actually catching Pokemon across sessions has been weirdly compelling. Idk if all pinball tables are this way, but most of the time when I lose a ball, it feels like I did nothing wrong and the game just decided to bounce off a pixel the wrong way and shoot into the out lane. I will probably put it down when I get the retro achievement for catching 100 Pokemon, because I seem to be getting worse the more I play. lol
Also finally playing Jedi: Fallen Order whenever I have more than just a few moments to game. I’m a big Star Wars head (in the non-toxic way 😅), so I will go in and out of phases where a Jedi video game sounds super compelling. It finally hit me, and man is this game fun when you’re just playing and mowing down Stormtroopers. My only gripe is that the game still feels buggy and hitchy, even 5 years since it came out. I don’t mind it most of the time, except the game is quite fond of in-engine cutscenes. and when these happen, I want to shut my brain off and enjoy the story like a Star Wars show. But little tiny bugs and glitches (jittery cloth effects, characters facing the wrong way) keep taking me out of it. I definitely feel like i’m committed to seeing it through, though.
Still wading through Diablo 4: Season 4. I have one more objective to get all the rewards for the season, but I gotta choose between beating Uber Lilith, Tormented Duriel, or Tormented Andariel, all of which are a bitch to fight. I have all my glyphs upgraded to the absolute max, and most of my items are in a good place, but I need to go through The Pit some more to upgrade them further, but it's such a grinding pain that I get bored quickly.
Diablo 3: Season 32 started this week, and I decided to go with a Necromancer after the disaster of a time I had with the Witch Doctor last season. It's only been a day, but I'm already feeling better about this round.
Finally finished Subnautica! While the last stretch was a little grindy and tedious, the ending was nice, and overall, I'm really glad I stuck to it and made it through. I can see myself revisiting this in the future, if nothing else that to see how building different bases in different locations would affect how quickly I could get things done. Or to just see what amazing base I could build in general.
I thought about playing Below Zero, but I haven't heard as great of things compared to this one, and I'm also not sure if I could stand another 60ish hours of swimming around lol. I did end up getting it on Steam anyway during the Summer Sale, so at the very least it's on the To Play List.
Had the urge to play Resident Evil 3 REmake again, so I did. I forgot it was so short, especially for a Resident Evil game.
For my next non Diablo game, I think I want to revisit The Darkness series. I've only played each game once, but I had a fun time with both, so I might see what achievements there are and do some hunting.
I wouldn't say it's as good as the RE2 remake, but it's a fun little ride and I enjoy playing it. Like I said, it's really short, and from what my friends who have played the original say, it cut some areas and isn't quite as faithful to the original as RE2 is. To me it's a nice little supplement to RE2, since it also takes place in Raccoon City, as well as giving more to Jill's story in the RE universe as a whole. I wouldn't recommend buying it full price, but if there's a good sale I'd nab it.
Ahh thanks - It’s included within an existing Playstation subscription I have, so I can play it without any extra charge. If it’s short and fun like you say, I’ll definitely give it a go!
A few games listed as gold for me ran fine on the Deck, but I was unable to play them because of unreadable font sizes. Some of these could be tweaked and there is always the magnifying glass tool, but I prefer them on the PC, which is still Windows.
