GrindingGears, do gaming w Best version of Pandemic boardgame on Android?

You might be able to find the APK somewhere for pandemic. Might not work for the modern android builds, that’s likely what it is. That game was hard a f___.

zabadoh, (edited )

I did find an APK on some outfit called apkvision.org, installed it, but it had something something about Iran, so I probably now have Iranian malware on my phone. 😓

zabadoh,

As a follow up, possible Iranian malware be damned, this turned out to be the smoothest running version of the game that I tried.

BitDefender didn’t find anything, but of course that doesn’t mean anything after you have the app installed.

Others that I tried had Chinese stuff on bootup, and stuttered when running.

I have been playing fortnite. And I’m kinda digging it. I completely despise their monetization, but I’ve been enjoying the gameplay loop. It’s a solid Battle Royale game. I find the pacing is pretty good in terms of how long you wait to engage other players.

I also like that they update it semi frequently. Usually, I don’t* like when games do that. But the core fundamentals stay the same while the extras (like the map and weapon/tools) change.

I didn’t think I would ever enjoy it.

I’ve also been playing Persona 3 Reload, and sniper elite 5. Both of those are pretty solid too. Sniper elite 5 felt weird at first because the game felt extra punishing until you unlock more options for stealth. I might have been playing it wrong.

Persona 3 reload is fun, but I feel like the two styles of gameplay don’t exactly mesh perfectly? They just don’t feel like they’re as robust as I want them to be (but the game has a decent amount of depth so idk how they would do that without overwhelming the player). I realize the game is a remake of an older title, though, so I’m assuming it’ll just get better as the series progressed.

Pentiment, an awesome point-and-click whodunnit with meaningful choices and beautiful medieval graphics. You only have limited time so you can't do everything and follow every lead.

Return to Moria, a generic survival/crafting game that was recently free on Epic. I had low expectations of this one, but it is surprisingly solid. But it really sucks that there is no dedicated server support.

Zaleramancer,

I played Return to Moria for a while on my partner’s (more powerful) PC, since my laptop isn’t exactly in fighting shape. I thought it was fun and very good at getting me in the vibe of the game. I particularly liked navigating the confusing warren of the Mines. I did fall off a bit when I did a lot of prep-work for the Orctown and found out it was kind of tiny.

If I had the PC and time, I’m sure it’d be very fun to play with friends.

Maestro,

Yeah, I'm playing with a friend. I think we're nearing the end. My gaming laptop struggles as well, but turning down the setting and upping frame generation helped a bit

Zaleramancer,

Yeah! What’s your gear looking like? In curious about what end-game stuff is like. I remembered that I hit the dweller in the water and kind of decided it wasn’t something I wanted to struggle with on my ownsome.

Maestro,

The dweller ended up being a really easy boss to deal with. We're deep into the Dwarrowdelf now. I just found the last piece of Durin's axe so I assume we're near the end. I didn't look anything up because I didn't want to spoil ourselves. We're in tier IV armor and weapons. It looks great, except for the helms. They have one big horn and one little horn. I hate horns on helmets and I don't like asymmetry either 😄

Zaleramancer,

Yeah, asymmetrical horns are not my jam in helms. 😆 I’m glad you’re having fun with it, I really enjoyed the parts I played. I’m just really scared of water monsters- can’t play subnatica, can’t deal with terrors of the deep.

Tekken 8 is slowly consuming me whole… and I don’t mind. I love the game so far! When I’m not playing, I’m looking up combos, pro replays, various advanced tutorials… I’m fully committed at this point, haha.

That being said, my library has let me know that a copy of Sonic X Shadow Generations is available for borrowing, so I’ll switch it up a bit this week!

vane, do games w Large Language Models in Video Games?

Are you asking if company is willing to risk all their reputation to add software that generates random text based on user input, that can be exploited or just faked as hate, racists or whatever you could think of evil is ?

I don’t think so. Maybe it could be used to generate some large dialogue loops but putting random text generator to the actual game if it’s not your first game, you have nothing to lose or you want to feel the AI hype ? I don’t think so.

Me and Lunacid. Immediately started a new playthrough after 100%-ing it.

Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun

StarCraft (not sure how the remaster is but the OG is something I would consider a “must play” game)

While it might not fit the vibe (and you might already know it), I feel like Songs of Conquest needs to be mentioned, being a Heroes spinoff. It’s an interesting twist on the formula, with lovely graphics, some things streamlined and some interesting new mechanics (like the essences for spellcasting).

Medieval 2 Total War. It’s the best Total War game and one of the oldest. It has a basic campaign map where you create and manage armies which you then use to go into a real time battle with thousands of units. There is nothing as satisfying as routing the enemy with a massive cavalry charge into the rear when they’re in hand to hand infantry combat.

The SBS video requires VR/XR glasses and either a mode that forces SBS or a special player because you didn’t upload it to YouTube with the metadata for YouTube to recognize it as 3D: support.google.com/youtube/answer/7278886

That is interesting. Do I understand this correct that it has to be SBS left/right for this to work? I read conflicting reports on this.

Thing is my glasses need right/left and most of what’s on YT does simply not work when I just go fullscreen with SBS enabled so I have to drag it out of YT first and run it through Bino (or use ffplay with stereo3d filter) to “fix” this again.

This looks like if I want to make it convenient for VR I make it inconvenient for XR glasses users like XREAL and Viture users. I’m highly confused.

Oh and what about h265 or V1? The example only suggests h264:

ffmpeg -i input_file.mkv -vcodec libx264 -x264opts “frame-packing=3” output_file.mp4

Tried if h265 would happily eat frame-packing too but it’s an unknown option for it :/

I haven’t seen Halo Wars mentioned yet so I’ll nominate those games. Both 1 and 2 are insanely fun and they control surprisingly well on Xbox if you dont have access to a PC. I’ve put a couple hundred hours into both games on both Xbox and PC, but I do prefer M&KB controls even if it works very well with a controller.

Cutscenes are fucking awesome in both games as well!

Another game I’d like to bring up is Stellaris. If you’re a sci-fi fan and like 4X strategy games then I can’t recommend this game enough. I’ve put 630 hours into the game since I got it back in 2019, being able to role play a custom or sci-fi inspired empire is great. If the amount of DLC puts you off, then look up cream.api. Getting them for “free” is easy.

You should be able to tweak fov in the graphics config inside appdata_local_frontier developments.

Also the game has an issue with world scale for VR. You have to tweak it in steamvr. You’ll feel too large for the world around you. I.e. your character’s body looks too small

bekopharm,
@bekopharm@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

I’ll take a look, thanks! SteamVR is not involved in this [that I know of]

Think I got the aspect ratio somewhat under control. It’s not perfect but much better. At this point I think it’s simply a bug of EliteDangerous. It’s like the HUD doesn’t get the rescaling memo after the intro played.

The settings make no sense to me but I can live with that. SBS (right/left side) images attached. The HUD is now at least readable and not squished too much.
