I don’t really know what to call it, but to my knowledge there has never been another game like guild wars 1 (yes, including 2). I think that undefined genre is actually quite fun and unique and I would love to see more attempts at it.
Sort of, but it has so many things that make it what it is. The deck building skill system, the instanced open world with social hubs to form parties in, the way the combat so heavily emphasizes countering and interrupting your opponents… There’s a lot of small details that make the whole I think.
Bloodstained is a top contender, I can’t say I first discovered it on the Deck, but it just feels right on a handheld, in a way that it didn’t with controller on desktop, and the Switch just isn’t good enough to run it at a passable framerate.
I’ve heard D2R is really good on the Steam Deck, so I think I’ll start with that one. Or maybe PoE.
I’ve ordered an OLED Deck and I’m looking for games with fun gameplay loops that don’t take too much attention since I’ll most be playing while watching TV with my partner. ARPGs seem like a perfect match.
Do any of the reviews mention anything about the UI? One of my issues while watching the first released videos and clips of this switch version was how boring and basic the UI was looking. Wondered if that was just a gripe on my end or if it effects some of the people to actutally play it. I understand it’s a small complaint but it can really change how a game is for me.
Yeah. That seems to be a trend in recent years. UX is extremely utilitarian and does not mesh with other game aesthetics. Even when those UX elements are on the screen all the time. It's very jarring to see a colorful game with a distinct palatte of textures being overlayed with grey, modern boxes and white arial text without any background textures to it.
It makes it feel like I'm playing a bad emulator or fan remake.
i haven’t stopped playing tears of the kingdom since it was released. my partner and i swap the controller back and forth. currently on a mission to collect all the armor and get lots of it upgraded. still haven’t defeated ganon even though we totally could.
I finished my second run of Baldur's Gate 3 with the Ghost Recon team. I made sure to finish up some major side quests I passed the first time around, and to avoid spoilers, let's just say that my team was so effective that I got the Interfectorem Draconis achievement in one turn. This was still only on balanced difficulty, but now that I've played through the entire game with this team, I'm confident it would work on tactician.
I also started and finished Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty this past weekend. BG3 really illustrates you how much more freedom that game gives you compared to most AAA RPGs. Cyberpunk definitely accounts for different builds in a variety of ways, but they're all predetermined options for you that the game explicitly allowed for, as opposed to BG3's more systemic approach that allows you to be more creative. So it reminded me how Cyberpunk is a pretty decent RPG, but in a world where we get basically no FPS campaigns anymore, it's just about all we've got on that front, and it does a better than decent job of scratching that itch. There was one mission I didn't care for, and of the two mandatory boss fights, they mostly entailed sprinting around the room in circles until the boss gives you an opportunity to return fire. Other than those complaints though, it was solid. The story was good, the missions were fun, the presentation was excellent; I'd recommend it if you want more Cyberpunk.
I picked up Dungeons of Aether as a second-screen game while podcasts are on. I expected this to be more of a roguelike, but it's not really. I can't say how much procedural generation there is, because I haven't failed a mission yet, but I'm more inclined to just call it a strategy game that uses dice. I'm totally fine with that; it's just not what I expected. The game is pretty fun so far.
The greatest midnight launch I attended was GTAV for PS3 at GameStop. They hired a DJ and had it setup just outside the shop and they were spinning songs featured in GTA soundtracks across the series. There were tons of people queued up and the line wrapped around the store. Everyone just chatting about what they thought it would be like.
The one I remember most was while working for a games retailer. The Pokemon Game Boy games caused mayhem. Not enough product and so many angry parents.
Use dolphin for gamecube. PCSX2 for PS2 games and RPCS3 for PS3 games. And for games, check out “nopaystation” it’s the best for PSX games. There are other amazing sites. Just search it.
Not my GPU but my friend’s. He has nothing but good things to say about it. $600 USD which translates to ~£540, but obviously buying it over there the price might be different .
Turns out to be £616 on UK Newegg but that isn’t so bad, will need to check it’s compatible with my system and power draw isn’t too much, but thanks will look into this one!
Dude, thanks so much for posting this! The first one and the VR version are some of my favorite games ever. I had some bare awareness they were working on this, but forgot and prob would haven’t noticed for a bit. I’ve been kinda burned out gaming-wise lately, TBH.
10 or so hours in and it’s such a perfect sequel. Art design is incredible, and everything from voices to character writing is really good. Great blend of puzzle concepts old and new. I’m enjoying the philosophical nature, like the first one, but find the ideas a little more accessible, at least on their face.
