Hitman.

Fuck the always online shit, but since last time I played they added a rogue lite mode. "Just kill randomly selected NPCs on existing maps" doesn't sound mind blowing (and occasionally a level feels kind of trivial), but the "die and they're on alert, die again and start over without your gear" format combined with limited access to gear really does give a fresh, high stakes feel.

Heratiki, do games w Has any of you ever tried the "Ragnok 2 gun mouse"? If so, how good is it?

It’s very much a gimmick. I’m 45 yrs old and was able to mess around with it at a friend’s house. It takes a lot of getting used to for it to become useful and accurate in games and will make any other game you play become a struggle. So if you ONLY play Warzone and don’t do anything else with your computer then sure go for it. You’ll need to “reprogram” your brain to use this mouse for the games you currently play and it’s really only a fun gimmick for shooting games.

IMHO: It’s just more plastic garbage and while a fun gimmick it would last about a month before becoming something you stuff in a drawer and likely never use again.

I started playing No Man’s Sky lately, in VR. I played it closer to it release in the past and it couldn’t captivate me, but now I’m kinda in a tumultuous period in my life and the simple gathering mechanics make for a calm passtime.

rozwud,

It’s so relaxing! Often I like to have an edible while I play that one.

Zworf,

What do you mean by an edible? Something to munch on?

rozwud,

Nah, the weed variety.

Zworf,

Ahh lol… I didn’t think of that. I can imagine that helps :)

I hated Callisto Protocol because of the story so much that I quit rather than advance the narrative. When I couldn’t kill Dani Nakamura for murdering my partner and crashing my ship and locking me in her cell after I freed her, I quit. No thanks, she sucks, not interested in saving her under any circumstances.

I think Castlevania : Lords of Shadow’s IP kind of worked against it. It’s useless to non- fans of the series, and it’s jarring to those who are.

It’s like it is constantly wondering if it’s a new take on the universe, or just a whole new one with useless, random references thrown in. There are lots of people completely displaced from their original time and background, and I am not talking about the game’s big spoilery reveal, but completely random ones with no point.

One example among many : in the main series there is a character who is a 20th century German artist who tragically turned mad because he lost his family during WW2. He is “reimagined” into a random bat-faced vampire general in the 11th century. His name is just mentioned in narration before a short fight and he’s never seen again.

Despite all of that, the game is great. Mostly linear, definitely has some pacing issues, but it’s pretty good at telling its story, it’s a decent spectacle fighter, and the environments are great.

Sequels… Yeah, not so much. But I really liked the first one. I just feel the Castlevania name only set it for something it wasn’t though.

The new Lords of the Fallen game. It was a pretty enjoyable game. There were many issues regarding online play and such, but I’ve had a great time as a soulsbourne fan.

Been playing Dishonored for the first time and really enjoying it. I’m only at the bridge and trying to play a low/no kill game. I’m not succeeding just yet, but it’s been really enjoyable and they do stealth really well. I’m baffled that they mismanaged to get the team that made this and Prey to push out Redfall? Man.

Just picked up FFVII after the second or third hiatus or my third or fourth attempt to play it. FINALLY made it to the Nibelheim story and past Midgard. And that somehow still manages to work on me as a first time player.

Just beat Banner Saga 1 and have never felt so much like a failure after “beating” a game. That game is trying to unseat This War of Mine for decisions regretted/minute.

I’m wanting to start up my Nintendo series playthroughs again by either starting Mario Galaxy 2 or trying to remember what on earth was happening in Majora’s Mask (3DS) something about the water temple maybe?

It wasn’t actually the same studio, Dishonored was made by Arkane Lyon while Redfall was made by Arkane Austin. Arkane Lyon are the ones working on the upcoming Marvel’s Blade game, however.

Glaive0,

So Prey team made Redfall and Dishonored team is making the new Blade game? Good to know!

Wheels from Sea of Stars is ok. But it’s no Super Turbo Turkey Puncher 🦃 💥 👊🏻

Th3D3k0y,

Honestly the most fun I had on Wheels was before I realized the tutorial existed, and I was brute force learning the game with trial and error. Then the game kind of got really easy. Still fun though.

Resident Evil Revelations 2 never gets talked about since it’s a ‘mediocre’ spinoff but i very much enjoyed it

Fedegenerate, (edited ) do games w New guide on Ico dropped on Gamefaqs

Funnily, I just finished this game for the first time last week. Wonder what happened in our lives that it became relevant. I might use the guide for a NG+ if it tells me how to get the lightsaber.

Mine was that I got an emulation setup capable of PS2 and GameCube. I’m making a conscious effort to finish games instead of downloading 10,000 games and just staring at the menu. So I have 1 narrative game (currently Zelda Windwaker) and a few genre games (fighting, racing) that I can dip in and out of.

Ico I never played at the time, and certainly wouldn’t have enjoyed it if I played it 20 years ago. I’m still digesting it if I’m honest. I think it mostly did what it wanted, I did become protective of Yorda. But, I think I wanted to play through it quicker than it wanted me to progress, instead of pausing to absorb through the backtracking and repeat sections I just wanted them over. Maybe that’s me with the weight of all the other games I wanted to get to after Ico, or I’m not the introspective type, or it failed to get me into an introspective space I dunno.

nodimetotie,

For me, I wanted to play it for a long time, finally had the time during the holiday break. I played the Shadow of the Colossus last year, so this year it’s ICO. Pretty happy with the PCSX2 emulator.

With ICO, I think it pays off to take it slow. I actually beat it three times now, I think. On my first play through I would often just pause and let the views sink in. It felt so magical for me.

Btw, there is a pretty cool speed run of the game by sanchopanda on GDQ

I really hope Gamefaqs continues to persist. I still think it’s one of the best places for guides.

nodimetotie,

Are there any rumors it might go down? Looks alive and well.

cottonmon,
@cottonmon@lemmy.world avatar

Not really, it’s just that a lot of guides nowadays are done on youtube. I personally think text guides are superior so I really don’t want gamefaqs to go away.

nodimetotie,

Agreed, nothing beats looking up a text code to jump to a section

Just finished 100%ing Sea of Stars. The combat was fun, and the general story and game play is very much so a nod to Chrono Trigger. Would absolutely recommend if you enjoy that type of game.

Just last night I downloaded and am about an hour into Dave the Diver. So far the game loop seems interesting, but im hoping it doesn’t just become a stacked chore game (so to speak).
