The main idea is that Styx is smaller than humans, so direct combat is never an option. Stealth takedowns, traps and such are the tools here. The enemies are delightfully stupid: sure, once you’ve been spotted they give you a chase and smack you about, but they also go back to their patrols if you manage to escape and hide for a bit. The usual “huh, must have been the wind” thing.
Gameplay can be a bit quicksave/quickload if that’s how you want to play it. Levels are generally huge, but end up somewhat being obstacle courses with few routes which zigzag around the direct path through them.
The games are a bit “eurojank”, sure, but imo, very enjoyable. But I am the kind of gamer who takes hours per level just so they can knock out EVERYBODY in the level, without raising alarms, just because that’s fun to me, so I might be a bit biased. :P
All in all, since you already got them, give them a whirl? The first levels tell you pretty fast if you like the gameplay or not.
This is awesome! So many of these old cartoons do feel like they were a fever dream, for sure. Same with cartoons like Rocko’s Modern Life, Angry Beavers, Ren & Stimpy, etc.
As soon as you asked about what other cartoons were due for a revival, I immediately thought of Tekkaman Blade, too. I loved that show so much, even if it wasn’t the best.
I would also love to see a revival of Biker Mice from Mars, if it hasn’t been done recently.
Rocko’s Modern Life, Angry Beavers, Ren & Stimpy, etc.
That was a rabbit hole to fall down, unlocking so many childhood memories! For some reason, I thought those were all by Klasky Csupo, turns out I totally misremembered… 😅
May as well throw CatDog onto that list too, I sing the theme song to my daughter to make her laugh…
I kinda feel sorry for later generations, there really is no way that modern kids animation holds a candle to what we millennials got to experience.
I don’t think they’ll remove the Ultimate Collection from people’s libraries. The main incentive to buy is… well, the ability to buy the games and the improved compatibility with modern systems - UC doesn’t really affect the main demographic, i.e. people who aren’t interested or knowledgeable enough to fix those issues on their own.
I love almost everything about this, apparently 100h+ in Infinite Wealth was not enough for me. Although, having discovered Like a Dragon only because of their switch to turn-based combat, I’m not sure the brawling is a good fit for me.
I’ll probably pick it up eventually, assuming a new main game doesn’t drop till then.
