This game is fascinating to me because of the range of reactions I’ve seen from players. Those who like it love it so much they call it a masterpiece, while those who don’t like it really hate it.
It’s also one of the only games I can think of which message (or at least what I personally interpret its message to be) gets less and less impactful the more people praise it. I feel like it only works if you go in blind and only expect a standard shooter, and really suffers from its reputation as a consequence. Expecting a fun shooter and getting this whole thing was a unique experience to me, while a friend of mine that played it expecting to find the experience he read about was super disappointed and hated it.
I think it does what it sets out to do really well. The only thing I view as a shortcoming is that it left me with very little desire to replay it, though I’ve heard that there are lots of different branching story options at different points, mostly based on if your character chooses not to do something that the game implies you’re supposed to do.
It’s not a “fun” game, but it’s engaging and short enough that I think anyone could get through it without getting bored, and I think the metacommentary that you experience from playing it is worth it.
Going in blind is the best. Unfortunately, it’s probably pretty difficult to do, since spoilers are extremely rampant. I don’t even know how I managed to do it. But it really is magical if you go in blind.
This guys videos are like crack to me, but this one was kind of boring compared to his other stuff. I don’t know why though. Fear of the cold was so much better and it’s essentially the same kind of storytelling.
You will defiantly love his other videos then. They’re all very in depth and entertaining
Then if you haven’t yet check out supereyepatchwolf - who takes similar deep dives into media but does it on a more personal level with really good storytelling. Like, really good.
You’d probably like Gaming’s Harshest Architecture. That may be the video that got me into the channel, he’s so good at creating this feeling of significance. And then you look back at the actual topic and wonder how you got so invested.
(I think the champ of that feeling in general is Kevin Perjurer of Defunctland. I have no idea how I get so invested in videos about… anything he’s made a video about.)
There are a lot of good reasons for secure boot both in game and in general. If your distro does not support it then that should be a complaint directed towards the maintainers. And… getting that through Proton is a different mess.
But EA have been spending the past year or so actively updating older Battlefields (I want to say all the way back to 3?) to actively block linux/proton. For whatever reason, they actively want to block anything but Windows for their games.
Secure boot can be used as part of a chain that eventually ends with unlocking your cryptographic keys only if the software stack has not been modified.
Sure, for most people that’ll make little difference, but it is an actual benefit.
First, Yo. Doesn’t even need to be a good password.
Second, what you are describing is something very different. Outside of very rare situations (most of which theoretical or specifically targeting a specific system by a state level actor), to be able to “boot the bios and disable it” would generally mean the machine is already VERY compromised or the bad actor has physical access to the machine.
A good way of thinking of it is that secure boot isn’t the lock on the door. It is the peephole that you look through to make sure that the person with your pizzas is from Georgio’s AND you actually ordered pizza. Rather than just opening the door because “Yo, free food”.
On its own? It doesn’t do much. But it goes a LONG way towards improving security when combined with other tools/practices.
Maybe I am just noticing it more these days (see: Wuchang) but holy crap are the community manager originated “talking points” so ridiculously transparent while also being disturbingly effective.
Ain’t NOBODY ever gave a shit about Kyle Crane. That is right up there with “The Iconic Hayden Pierce’s Hat” in the ubi-verse.
That said: I would like it to be good but I still think 2’s biggest mistake (aside from the hilariously bad story which… 1 wasn’t much better) was that there just isn’t that much water in the “parkour around zombie city” genre and all that wingsuits added was another case of being frustrated when we couldn’t do something we should be able to do (the grappling hook in 1 had similar problems). And apparently they are going for 18 hours of story in Beast? That… is a bold move.
Yeah, wingsuit ruined the second for me. You can literally fly across the map with having to parkour. I liked some of the parkour changes, but they alsmost don’t want you to have to actually parkour in that game.
The writer for dying light was let go for good reason and he was the main talent. This is why dying light two was so plain story wise because the replacement writer wasn’t up to the task.
No reason to hype that the beast writer is up to the task also. Only time will tell.
This libel suit was settled in March 2023, with a settlement that "provides for a seven-figure payment" from the accusers to Avellone. Concurrently the two accusers retracted their original accusations, stating that "Mr. Avellone never sexually abused either of us," and that "We have no knowledge that he has ever sexually abused any women." They also claimed in the same statement that their previous public statements with regards to Avellone had been "misinterpreted".
Shit like this is why people need to knock it off with the “iT’s A sCaM” bullshit and embrace crypto. This is the exact kind of issue that using cryptocurrency prevents.
We need to federate money and put it back in the hands of the people. You would think that Lemmy would be into that idea, but instead y’all act like crypto killed your dog and fucked your wife. I don’t get it.
(And before you use the waste of electricity argument, remember that proof of stake is a thing.)
Edit: Well this went exactly how I expected. Just nothing but ignorant downvotes. Not even a single attempt at a decent counter-argument. You people and your hive mentality suck.
My takeaway is that if I don’t go broke on groceries this year I sure as hell will go broke buying some phenomenally promising games (or at least supporting the devs anyway).
hell yeah the rumors is true. Well it LOOKS solid, but i don’t know how much actual info there was to glean out of that video. This is coming from a different studio than the people that brought you THPS 1+2, so it remains to be seen if Iron Galaxy can pull off the same kind of loving remake that Vicarious Visions gave us in 1+2. I think Iron Galaxy was responsible for the Killer Instinct reboot, so we know they have some cred on bringing old games back to life.
Iron Galaxy had some misses in the past, most notably probably the PC port for Arkham Knight. More recently, Last Of Us Part 1 on PC, which had some bad performance at launch, I think. They did the PC port for THPS1+2 though, and I don’t remember hearing some big complaints, but I also haven’t paid too much attention.
When I was like 9 or 10 I thought our neighbor was at the door so I jumped out in my home made samurai pizza cats outfit, yelling "samurai pizza cats, they're so bad!", presuming that he was there to play samurai pizza cats.
Turned out to be a boy from my class at school collecting money for something. He proceeded to blackmail me, getting my lunch in exchange for keeping my dorkiness hush-hush.
