The head of bungie spent a shit ton on classic cars, but they’re laying people off… I really want to see wtf happened to bungie internally. It went to shit the past decade.
As much as I would love that, I think the original games being remastered to remove any bugs or maybe just having balance/difficulty changes/updates would be enough for me.
On a personal level, I would absolutely not buy a Fallout 1/2 remaster that changes how the NPC faces move when in the dialogue box thing with them. That almost uncanny valley like facial movement is something I absolutely love in older games.
Eh… It’s not the combat in Expedition that keeps me playing. Even with the time-based perfect hits, dodges, and parries it’s not as fun as actively being in control during real-time combat.
But the story, characters, and music are incredible.
I love the combat! There’s nothing more satisfying than learning an enemy’s moves perfectly and then getting that juicy 20% experience boost for whacking them without taking a hit. The balance is a bit off sometimes, but when it’s on, it’s amazing. I finished a long, difficult fight last night with my last character being the only one standing. It was such a cool moment.
Enemies with huge, super-slow wind ups to their attacks can take a hike, though. If I can accidentally parry four-five times in the time it takes you to wind up your attack, just maybe my character should be preemptively counter attacking, y’know.
I’m still sitting on the fence on this one. On one hand I love the Dune universe but on the other I’m not crazy about survival games and melee combat doesn’t look great.
Melee is actually pretty fun with the bene gesserit skills. You can tie multiple movement skills together to zip around a room killing enemies with super speed
The thing I miss most about handhelds is all the mid-budget experimental spinoffs made for them. That was where weird truly flourished, and I'm sad that there's not really a place for that in today's market. Hideo Kojima's Boktai trilogy is one of my favorite games of all time, and there will never ever ever be another game remotely as weird as that.
I suppose it happened because from a mainstream perspective handhelds like the DS and PSP were far behind dedicated systems in terms of graphics, and so the expectation was never there to have “triple A” visuals - neither from consumers nor industry.
Made for very fertile ground in terms of games that had budget, but still had a long leash to go and get wacky.
Ugh, still not open source. The author of the original mod vanished shortly after announcing they would open source the mod, which basically stalled further development (like this) for years. Downloads are distributed via Discord. Only issue tracking is done via Github.
It probably doesn’t work with Linux either because the original mod overwrote the same dll as dxvk does.
If anything, I think RTS need to go back to its roots. I’m not a huge RTS fan, and I’m not particularly nostalgic about the genre, but I have played a few games. My favorite? AoE2! It’s just a damn good game.
