Glad this is finally happening. Playing on and off since Switch release and I really want to play the game in higher quality. Finally can try it on PC or PS4 without losing progress
I would say subscriptions are bad because they are proven to make people spend more money then they would have normally. That’s why most big companies do it now. Someone buying a game for 30$ and playing it for 1000 hours over a couple years isn’t very interesting for the big guys.
But then how would you apply that logic to things like GamePass, where you will end up spending way less if you are a prolific gamer? I spent $120 for a year of PS+ Premium and it paid for itself in 2 weeks with the cost of buying the individual games vs just having access to the catalogue. And not just things I downloaded, played for 10 minutes and removed. There was plenty of things I would have out right paid $40-70 for and have put 40-100 hours in that I didn’t have to buy because they were on the subscription service. It would have cost almost a $1000 for the value of time spent playing games I got access to for only $120.
You probably pay more if using a gamepass, but you also try a lot more games.
If you played as many games without a gamepass as with one, you’d pay a lot more.
But without a gamepass, you usually restrict yourself to fewer games.
Whether removing such restriction is worth the (not as significant) additional cost is subjective.
So there’s an actual case for subscription in cases like this.
(The reason subscriptions make some sense here is because digital items are artificially limited. With physical items or services subscriptions are almost always a money grab. But with artificially limited things, such as digital items, subscriptions can definitely be reasonable.)
If you only ever play games or watch movies/shows once regardless, it’s just a cheaper way to get content. The only reason I don’t use Gamepass is because it doesn’t work on Linux. That’s it.
I have Netflix and Disney+ because it’s way cheaper than buying the movies and shows I watch on it, movies and shows that I’ll only ever watch once.
What’s this “again” business? Do you actually feel you’re entitled to a $1 unlimited access pass to their entire library for 2 weeks just to play their biggest release? If not, do you think it’s unethical or illegal or some other gripe?
I played Outer Worlds, Wasteland 3 and Halo: Infinite with that shit in the past years. I felt like I was literally stealing the games.
Oh neat I have been living under a rock and didn’t realize it was owned by Microsoft… so now there will never be a PS5 release. Does that mean all the old Bethesda games will be unavailable om PS5?
It doesn’t even look like you can get it on steam deck, this blows.
Well Steam says it will be in their library, I guess just not for Steamdeck? I was on the fence about getting one because I rarely use a non work computer, and won’t get a new one just for gaming.
I’m talking about GamePass, not Starfield. Gamepass only works on Microsoft OSes AFAIK, so you won’t be able to use it on anything it doesn’t control (i.e. macOS or Linux).
Like it’s not enough to lock me into a service by making a good service that I forget how expensive it is, instead they got to strangle you on the device side.
Hot take when dealing with trillion dollar monopolies there is nothing unethical of taking advantage of them. Also I say this as someone that got the $1 month once and then used it once and then never touched it.
Sweet. It already looked like a breath of fresh air after the NSMB rehashes, but if it’s getting it’s own direct, Nintendo must have really put a lot of love into this one. Can’t wait!
Nice! I love this game but have been having issues with performance. I have a 3070 GTX and regularly see my GPU hitting temps of 80-85°C at High settings at 144hz 1440p.
Really looking forward to this patch, I hope it helps!
Gooood. I honestly had to stop playing for a bit, everything started breaking once I got past Act 1. I feel like many of the decisions I made, which seemed normal at the time, broke the story’s continuity and interactions. I reached NPCs before I was supposed to, explored side quest locations before I knew there were quests there (fuck you and your parents, Oliver…), fast traveled when I shouldn’t have, etc. etc.
Yeah, I’m seeing stuff like that. I fast traveled at some point, and my journal immediately updated to tell me that Halsin had left for good and would no longer help me. But he was still chillin at camp…and that wasn’t the first or only problem I had with him.
I might just start a fresh save after this patch drops.
Yup, failed a quest twice because we couldn’t help up a KO’d NPC. Healing, splashing water, pushing, long rest, nothing would get them up. In fact, they DIED after doing a long rest, when the condition says it’s cured by it.
With graphics hardware at the low end of the requirements (which are high for an RPG) the game struggles to maintain 30fps at 1080p, often failing even with the expensive settings turned down. The simplest outdoor scenes often send the GPU fans into hyperdrive unless FPS is capped below 40. Quicksaving sometimes drops FPS to 10ish until another save or reload. And that’s just in Act 1.
Major performance improvements will be very welcome.
I haven’t run into too many bugs in the game, but in combat it’s frequent for the game to have to sit there for several seconds thinking about what an enemy should do next. Hope that’s one of the performance improvements they’re working on.
I’m hoping they fix it so it will actually use all my power. Both my graphics card and processor sit at ~50% usage and low temp, while I drop frames when locked at 30fps. I’m still in act 1 but as it is now, I am concerned about when I reach act 3, since they say that is much harder on performance.
I went from pretty much a locked 60 to mid 20’s in act 3. 5900x 2080S and 32G ram with a nvme ssd. Put BG on pause for a few days while armored core kicks my ass. Hopefully the patch improves performance quite a bit. I don’t think I’m maxing out cpu or GPU either but haven’t really been monitoring it.
Yayay! The game has run smoothly, mostly. But every few hours my GF and I restart our LAN to fix some stuttering. Also had some FPS issues with super large battles, but the game is SO DANG GUD that we don't even consider those speedbumps. Easily the best triple A in a long while.
To think it’s also on PS Plus (and I think Game Pass?). Well-deserved though, it’s a great game so far! Big Chrono Trigger vibes, which I just finished a few months ago so it’s cool to have some more old school JRPG stuff to play.
Although I’m super tempted to get it on Switch despite having 2 hours on PS5. It’s the perfect game to play in bed
I thought this would be viable through Game Pass Cloud streaming. Bummer if it isn’t since Moonlight can’t find games installed on Game Pass on my pc. Might have to settle for a payment though Steam as well, then :)
You can just play it with Game Pass Cloud streaming. There are no issues with this game specifically.
Generally though, as far as I know, you can’t add games installed locally by Game Pass as a non Steam Game. They aren’t installed in the traditional sense. No .exe, for example.
If you like old school, but new, games I have to recommend Octopath Traveller 2. I started it 3 days ago and already have 30 hours with no signs of slowing down.
Average playtime without side quests I’ve seen about 60 hours. I’m at 40, there’s 8 characters, and I’ve only been focusing on 4 of them. My playtime may be off, though, because there were a few times I left it paused for a few hours.
Wow and that’s with it being released on Gamepass and PS+ I believe . Great to see such numbers for such a game where you can see the passion from the developers
