Your favorite video game doesn't need a remake | Digital Trends (www.digitaltrends.com) angielski

Curious about y’alls opinions on this. I like the idea of getting new people to experience an older game by aligning it to modern graphics and accessibility standards. But capitalizing on nostalgia with quick updates to that make it look modern rather than making new games seems like just more of studios trying to squeeze...

learningduck, (edited )

Was it Remake for DS or was it just a remaster?

To me, remasters are like StarCraft remastered that gameplay stays the same, but the graphics got upgraded.

Remakes are like FF7, Dead Space or System Shock that is made from scratch.

learningduck,

Since I don’t see anyone mentions it.

Tunic. The shortcuts are so cleverly hidden that allows you to easily break the sequence in your next playthrough. The manual translation felt just like back when I tried to understand japanese game manuals that come with game boy cartridges.

Chain of Echoes. A one man RPG game with a unique combat system that has great quality of life.

learningduck,

Warning. The game only has like 2 bosses. It uses rooms that keep spawning mobs as replacements for normal bosses.

learningduck,

Pokemon Renegade Platinum. I found the base game was a bit too easy. The ROM hack made it so challenging. Couldn’t imagine me playing nuzelocke though.

What are some hidden indie gems nobody knows about? angielski

Which indies did you discover and would love more people to know about? I’ll start: The Pale Beyond. Not sure if it’s a hidden gem tbh, but it’s such a good story rich game. I laughed, I cried and felt the characters struggles. If you like story rich games/ choices matter, check it out.

learningduck,

The first one also meh at releast until several patches later. The second one is on the easier side as the penitent one is now more agile.

learningduck,

Sekiro. It ruined other souls like for me. Even DS. Combat felt like dancing, QoL are very good, even better than Lies of P that people kept praising about QoL.

learningduck,

Easy solution for Stardew Valley. Unfriend one.

Joke aside, Factorio multiplayer would be nice to teach some logical thinking, but it’s only on PC

learningduck,

Buy him a cheap PC and introduce Factorio.

It would teach them logical thinking and teamwork. Could be a nice platform for programming also.

learningduck,

Good supporting dad 😁, lol. Now pass the pipe.

learningduck,

I’m glad you have fun. If I were younger, I may still enjoy this. Now, I don’t even care about achievements. It’s funny that the latest game that I have the problem with is Hi-Fi Rush.

I love characters and would like to continue with the story, but thinking of grading pushed me off, while grading in Hitman doesn’t push me off somehow.

I guess it’s because I’m bad with tempo and feel that I keep getting B or lower.

So glad that Sekiro doesn’t have a grading.

learningduck,

Yeah, I don’t have this kind of issue with Hitman’s grading at all. Guess, each grade (Progressional, Silent Assassin) isn’t judgmental.

learningduck,

Guess you didn’t reach the second paragraph.

learningduck,

Yes, and I have no problem with it at all. I guess, because instead of presenting grades in ABC, it uses ranking that’s less judgemental instead, which is also different based on play style also.

Games that I keep retrying to achieve a better grade or even add an extra challenge myself are Splinter Cells and Metal gear solid.

learningduck,

But in Hitman, it gave the agent do many tools to take the target out. I could’ve spent an entire day setting up traps and still score SA rank. It felt more relaxed that way.

learningduck,

Tenchu, the game that I wished for the checkpoints system the most since PS1. Sneak your way to the boss and get killed? Well, let’s replay the whole mission.

learningduck,

I don’t remember grading in the original MoH. Guess I was too young to care about that. Finishing games is already too hard for me back in the day.

The Weekly 'What are you playing?' Discussion - 02-10-2023 (lemmy.world) angielski

Have you been spending hours trying to pass a level? Or maybe you are completely addicted to a newly bought game. Do you have a question about a game or would like to share something else? In the Weekly Discussion Thread, you can do it all!...

learningduck,

I’m still playing Lies of P. 26 hours into the first playthrough Not sure if I will finish it though. I felt more frustrated towards LoP than when I played FromSoft’s games.

I hate that it uses multi-phase bosses so much, yet these phases tend to have nothing related to the earlier phase.

learningduck,

After a long while, I felt more adjusted to their delayed attack and parry windows. However, I stopped playing for a week and now, I feel like I have to readjust the timing again lol.

learningduck,

Then you can assert dominance by saying, I beat it pre nerf lol.

I wished they do away with those boss rum back, though.

Sekiro is way more generous with the Buddha’s statues that I could retry a boss easily.

learningduck,

Second this. They have so many activities, but kinda repetitive if play each entry back to back. With a somewhat Grundy nature, it burnt out fast, if not rush.

learningduck,

I’m playing Lies of P. It’s a good soul like game, but felt like the dev took some wrong lessons from FS.

I’m really frustrated that the distance that I have to travel to retry each boss is so far. It’s like playing DS1 with some flaws that FS grew out of.

learningduck,

Especially in Asia, which is a shame. My country doesn’t has a game pass and no official store. At least now we have a GP on PC, but not on the console yet

learningduck,

Yeah, look at how almost every game in the Yakuza become permanent residents on Game pass. One of the next game will even be on GP on day 1. They must be in a very good relationship

Lies of P - Discussion angielski

Bought Lies of P last night and made it just past the first boss. I know some folks are comparing it to Bloodborne and I can see why they think that (damn chimney sweeps). I do like the game although I wish the dodge was better. Bloodborne had a sick dodge system and this one isn’t quite there....

learningduck, (edited )

So, this game expected you to parry instead of dodging?

I’ve been playing it wrong lol. I see people keep calling it BB and I tried dodging primarily and it’s so clunky.

Sekiro is my favorite Fromsoft.

The reward for parrying isn’t as satisfied as Sekiro, though. The damn staggering window is so short.

learningduck, (edited )

I just finished the 2nd boss. This game feel funny to me. I played Soul Like with parrying consecutively (Sekiro , Wo Long, Jedi Survivor), so my instinct is to parry, but not seeing stagger bar and hearing people calling it Blood Bourne cause me to try to dodge primarily instead. Hey, it got me this far.

I will try playing it with parrying and see if it make my life easier. Those damn charging enemy with their multi hit drill require parrying on every tick. I’m not gonna Daigo that shit lol.

I think this game need Hanbei to teach the player basic. Those punching bags are so useless.

learningduck,

There’s The Sims at work by Paradox called Life by You.

learningduck,

Seems more polished than other games. Winner what kind of fantastic mods are going to be made for it.

learningduck,

You get to fly your ship, you can engage in a space combat even.

learningduck,

But you could still use your phone to remote play to your PC or XBox isn’t it?

You could even add a non Steam game to make it usable with Steam Link.

learningduck,

How about whatever PS5 remote play on your phone?

remote play on a phone while using a gamepad is a viable option if you don’t want to buy it on Switch.

learningduck,

Thank you for clarification. I thought that they can work together.

learningduck,

What a sad news. I’m glad that they did it with a choice rather than being forced by a bankruptcy.

learningduck,

My impression of this comment read like us vs them (subscribers vs buyers) to me which I don’t think realistic. They aren’t mutually exclusive.

There are games that may be too short or don’t have much repeatability that people better off renting than buying.

learningduck,

A well thought out answer.

I see your points, which I mostly agree. I think at one point, but there are also Indies games that may hardly see any penny without the exposition of the subscription as well. There are games like Chain of Echoes that I bought after playing it on GP just because I like it so much that I want to support the devs and wouldn’t have buy it in the first place had it not included with GP, but this may be a rare case or just a matter of releasing a demo.

Rockstar had their games on GP for a short period then pull them from the platform repeatedly for a while, I guess they intended for people to use GP to demo their game. Not sure how that work out for them.

learningduck,

If the price are equal then GOG, but it doesn’t has local price and tend to be significantly more expensive than games on Steam.
