Barrens chat was wild back in the day. Can’t imagine how it is now a days with how every online game is so full of toxicity that the most common thing I do the first time I play anything now is disable chat entirely.
So many games now do not even have any way to effectively communicate, which I find even worse. I found so many good friends while gaming, all impossible in those games where you end up with random people game after game with no communication.
Chat is non-existent in World of Warcraft anymore. You can get banned or muted for basically anything now because people have a right click report button and often abuse it for no reason. I was completely banned from the game for an entire week for this exact same username that I have here, someone reported me and said my name was inappropriate. I’ve had it for 15 years, and was randomly deemed to be not allowed anymore, so banned. Also had guild members that I was very close with through discord banned for a week for simply making a joke or saying the word fuck.
Started playing again with a duo partner and was a bit shocked at the toxicity in Trade chat. I’ve been playing the game less and less over the years, and I guess I was used to it at one point. I suppose I also just have less tolerance for bullshit than I used to.
I don’t know how it is now, but Classic was even worse at launch. Blizzard underestimated player demand for the product from the start, so a company that had already slashed their GM staff to the bone wasn’t ready for it (and players in public chat channels were aware and took full advantage).
One of my favourite games to play with friends, especially if you get into character and drink some rum lol. I definitely play it mainly for the PVE, which I find relaxing.
I had a lot of fun galavanting around in black flag, but then FU-bisoft pulled the big one on me, and did NOT cloud-backup my progress (even though cloud save is plastered all over the ui, thats only about the achievements). Then I was sad and stopped singing chanties. Maybe. Someday…
Black Flag is one of my favorite ACs, But god Ubisoft needs to get their Cloud Backup Servers sorted out. It’s a fucking mess. I feel for you. I lost my Unity Save too their servers
Man, if I had any illusions about Lemmy being filled with literal children, this thread would clear them right up. Sexual objectification is gross and it does have consequences, y’all.
No? Welcome to gachas, don’t even pretend girls don’t want to be put on the wall by their daddies, there are plenty of thirsty traps with the dudes on TikTok.
These are games made to sell you waifus and husbandus, they are appealing by design. I recommend you to watch the newest Jane Doe trailer on the Zenless channel, this is the target demographic.
At first, I thought this was a screenshot from Lemmy and thought what the hell. Then I saw that it’s Reddit and all my questions got answered. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Well, jokes aside, I’m not of the opinion that humans are either gross idiots or non-gross idiots. I rather think that their social context brings out the gross that lives in all of us.
Reddit is big enough that people feel even more anonymous there, and that there’s enough people willing to share their gross interests to form communities. When those communities exist, you also get an influx of users specifically looking for all of that. Lemmy is just not big enough.
I had quite a bit of fun with it for a few weekends with my friends, but ultimately the lack of a system for mechanical progression left it feeling a bit shallow (ha!). As a primarily PvE game with light PvP it’s in a weird place where it doesn’t have quite enough RPG-like elements to hold my interest on the PvE side, or enough player-on-player combat to make it a gripping contest of skill.
It’s still a fun game to hop into from time to time, but it’s never been appointment gaming for me
