NPC: hey buddy I know you just killed the world ending dragon but my shoe string broke and it would be dangerous to for me to walk to the other side of town to get a replacement string. Can you go get me the string? If you do this for me I give you an item that you have an inventory full of that you won’t use because you are saving them all for a tougher fight, even after beating the secret ultra hard boss and the final boss but there might still be a need.
Me: hell yes I’ll get your shoe string on the other side of the world if I had to. Don’t worry about giving me any money I maxed that out hours ago and can’t find anything to spend it on. Sure I’ll take the item, you never know when you might land in a fight where a potion that heal 1% saves me. Sorry about not talking to you 100 hours ago your character model looked kind of plain so I didn’t think you would have quest for me.
So many things are hard to find on Google now, like I’d type all of the relevant keywords but nothing actually relevant would come up except for some ancient GameFAQs document complete with the ASCII titles 😂
Elden ring doesn’t allow ultrawide, which I don’t complain too much since it isn’t that widespread, but instead of just forcing the wide-screen resolution, it renders the entire screen then puts black bars on the sides. It’s the worst of both worlds (and also means they literally have ultrawide support but choose not to let us use it). I’d say fromsoft has a long way to go (not to mention the stuttering).
I hate the forced Chromatic Aberration. Photographers spend thousands of dollars on lenses to minimize the effect. Meanwhile, devs just slap it on games without any way to disable it without mods (which they’ll ban you for if you use them online).
AC6 supports ultra wide and 120hz frame rates on pc. I didn’t see any stutters or notable issues in my playthrough. I’m hopeful that from soft’s next releases will have fine pc support.
Other than the original Dark Souls port none of their games have been unplayable on PC. Tons of major UE4 games have had constant stuttering issues however.
They might have been better than some, but their ports were still pretty sub par. Not really something to be used as an example of a good port. Their better ports like Dark Souls 3 and Sekiro were still pretty bare minimum for a port.
Cant talk about ac6 as Ive never played it.
Dark Souls PTDE was an absolute mess of a port.
The remaster was handled by an entirely different company.
Original launch DS2 suffered mostly from framerate related issues. Including weapon durability being severely affected.
Dark Souls 3 had no real AC and had massive problems with cheating during PVP. In fact I don’t think any of the games had a proper AC aside from a server side check on save files. Which did nothing against any form of cheating that didn’t affect the save file. Cheats that could for a time brick saves though some method I don’t recall.
Elden Ring had major stuttering issues for a considerable amount of time.
All games were found to have a severe RCE issue that lead to them being taken off line for an extended period. ER not affected as I don’t think it was released at the time.
All of them were pretty bare bones, not supporting UW without modding, not supporting arbitrary framerates. Other than original DS2 but that came with its own issues.
I know I’m probably in the minority here, but I liked the first 2 Grand Theft Auto games on PC better than the more well known ones… They were top down view and easier to just pick up and play. The graphics were more like a 16bit era game. They were simpler games that just felt more fun to me than the giant massive games that came out later. I tried a few of the later ones but it just made me miss the originals lol
You should try Chinatown Wars for DS/PSP. It has the same top-down camera but with more modern gameplay sensibilities. It’s probably my second favourite GTA after 3.
The main theme song is awesome, it’s called Grand Theft Auto by Da Shootaz on streaming services. I had a PS1 disc version of the game from what I recall too which meant the song could be played by putting the game disc in a regular audio cd player.
I end up resubbing every few years and just spin something cool endlessly, or get caught in WIS (RIP), or the ship map thing, or the exoplanet research project (RIP). I was really pissed the last time though at how expensive it has become. And I didn’t like the covid research minigame.
The generic white muscled male, who can do anything the plot throws at him (with only a bit of fake struggle), and gets the girl at the end, is so damn overdone in every media. People talk about characters being Mary Sue when John Sue is way more common.
I want variations in my fiction! All kinds of genders, preferences, cultures, opinions, and species. The only rule I have is for the fiction never to encourage cruel acts IRL.
I’d say the avatar series in general is good at having diverse characters who are complex. I know Korra gets a lot of shit but I personally really liked that they tried to have an avatar actually suffering from mental illness.
That was a coincidence, I’ve just started watching it! Season 2 now. Love it so far. But Sokka don’t deserve being such a buttmonkey, considering how often he is right.
The graphics were extremely groundbreaking for the time. Unless you lived through it, it would be hard to understand. Its hard to compare it to any modern graphics advancement because modern graphics advancements are all such tiny visual improvements, its not the same as the massive leaps early 3D graphics had.
Professor oak got all the kids in town to leave so he could be the sole stud next to the two baddies who suddenly have no responsibilities living next door, change my mind
