All I wish for is Clint to get an online girlfriend, my wife to be able to hang out with her friends again, and the cute Joja cashier to move into town
Not sure why anyone would buy games at this point.
There are so many games available for free, and any new ones kinda suck donkey balls. Couple that with a shitty economy, grocery prices are through the roof, and it’s no surprise people aren’t wasting money on video games as much.
I would play a game with ai NPCs. Not the artwork but the mechanic. You could run hundreds of interqctable characters with simple prompts that states ztheir goals and personalities. Like a modern radiant ai.
Shit that is awesome. Sounds as shit as Skyrim dialogue, but the responsiveness to the world and players actions is such a nice feature to bring life to such a boring game.
Why is one thing okay for you but not the other? A generated artwork is an artists not paid and theft. Generated dialogue is a writer not paid and also theft. All the popular models are fed on stolen content.
Valid questions. There are many issues to distinguish in your question.
AI is Theft, Popular models are fed stolen content. I agree. They should be sued for all they they have. Either pay or make them a world heritage, open to all without fees.
Why NPC dialog and not models or asset? Assets and world building are designed one an usually fixed. Which make sense the world is a fixed space with fixed rules. Having AI generated scripts for NPC would fall in the same category and that is not what I would try. What I expect are au powered well crafted personages that live in that world. Rondo that you still need good writers, to create the persona background and goals and quirks to make it interesting to interact with. Your companion can only be sworn to carry your burden so many times. Charisma and factions stats become way more engaging etc. AI is also not limited to LLM and generative, having a faction figuring out that some sneaky bastard is robbing them could trigger them to plant honey pots to try and catch you. Ennemies learning would be cool
Yeah, that seems par for the course with current Paradox games the past few years…
Cities Skylines is 2 years old and still shit, too… Hell paradox is even going so far as to change the dev company working on it at the start of next year. Which is doing wonders for peoples hope for the future of the game /s
You might be interested in Zero Sievert. If you already own (or obtain) Escape from Tarkov there’s an amazing Single Player Tarkov mod that is legitimately probably the best way to play the game.
Yeah, in the 15 minutes it takes to see if changing the setting caused any performance issues, I can easily just boot up Maze Mice and get through roughly 2 rounds with zero complications whatsoever. No need to change any settings from default or wait absurd lengths of time just to play a game without stuttering and other performance issues.
Also, your game is piss poorly optimized if you can’t get shader compiling working properly without tanking your experience in game.
I’ve played a handful of games that precompile shaders at boot up without it taking 15 minutes, and they try to hide at least some of it behind the splash screens and such. This is absurd. If pre-compilation or caching is needed, just fucking do it.
On top of what you said, that any company with the funds of Gearbox has no excuse for not being able to optimize it to happen during runtime without tanking FPS.
When you launch a game, and… your drivers have changed, or there’s been a substantial update to the game… it just tells you its compiling shaders before properly launching the game.
15 full minutes is pretty terrible though.
I think my worst ever is around 5 to 10, and that is when I am intentionally fucking about with mods and different versions of Proton and changing up Proton/Wine prefixes with new attempts at finding a working Windows component/requirement for some nonsense that by all rights should not work at all, lol.
I don’t understand exactly why but they’re not storing the computed shaders so you constantly have to redo it. But it also shouldn’t be taking that long anyway. It takes the new battlefield maybe 30 seconds to do this, so something weird is going on in the background.
Here, pick from various amounts of these 3 options, these have been the explanations for basically every ass-tier AAA game in the past couple of years:
UE5 is very flashy, ‘developer friendly’ garbage that explodes in complexity when you try to do any serious modification/customization of the engine or render pipeline
None of these AAA devs that are supposed to be experts in UE5 actually are
Management is beyond incompetent and tells devs to do things that are actively bad/harmful/destructive/broken.
