The trays had a groove for a CD. So placing it in the groove it would work because its edges would always fall into that groove correctly all the way around the tray.
This, however, wouldn’t work on a slot loaded drive since they worked by having a set of arms with rollers that grab the edge of inserted disc and another arm with a roller that pushed it the rest of the way in from the opposite edge when it’s inserted enough.
You can see how this worked here on a DVD drive that uses the same setup. youtu.be/qi3v7X6BpAA
So there’s only ever 3 slim points of contact which is fine as long as it’s a circle. Yet the irregular shape here would cause it to get partially in and then pushed by the arms into the edge/internals of the drive.
Outer Wilds. For a few friends who don’t have it yet. I’ve already bought it a couple times.
I already own it… but it’s just that good. So good I vicariously try to relive the game by watching livestreams and Eelis’ recaps of other live-streamers.
It really is something you have to experience blind. Since the entire game progression is knowledge based and pulling threads on the mysteries until the mosaic of the story and experience unfolds is truly something you can experience once.
Rumors are flying that Apple will make William Gibson's 'Neuromancer' into a TV series. But who will star? And will this be the first great cyberpunk TV series?
Johnny Mnemonic takes place in a world where Transnational Megacorps are the real power. Nations, being physical are limited and so are owned by or overridden and controlled by transnationals.
So Disney, a medium empire with control of IP and influence making a version of Johnny Mnemonic would be ironic.
Because even the possibility that you implemented somebody else’s proprietary code from memory or inspiration opens up a lot of legal issues.
And while you may win there’s no winners when you or your employer has to pay your side of legal fees. It’s best to just avoid it to make that process easier.
Directly, probably not. But if you work on an engine team or on a game and there’s some future lawsuit implying that the methods and techniques match their stuff then it will be costly. Companies would rather just avoid the potential liability.
Here’s an article discussing some aspects of Nintendo leaks being risky for those who work on emulators
"Such dumps wouldn’t be of use to the project due to it being illegal to obtain and use code contained within said dumps,” they said via Twitter DM. “Using code from dumps like that can taint the project and be active grounds for Nintendo to pursue legal action against it.”
“Having a 16 plus year old emulator project go up in smoke isn’t something I’d want to happen. I’ve already seen a few comments on Reddit saying something along the lines of, ‘Well, why don’t you just make use of it but change it up a little before using it’, which, uhh, is a profound lack of perspective,” Lioncache said. “Legally, you generally don’t get a second chance about these sorts of things if legal action actually gets taken.”
I think you’re saying it showed it could work. Where others are saying a success on the sense of a viable product that can make enough money to operate and, ideally, to be profitable.
And unfortunately when it comes to a service that requires servers, bandwidth and staff to maintain and operate it then there has to be a certain threshold of users to make it profitable or else it is doomed to fail.
There’s some you play on iOS already. For example storyteller and Into the Breach. It basically checks that you have a Netflix account and then you can play the game.
Games that I’ve played a bit but didn’t finish because I just don’t feel like it but have a story I’m really interested in? I’ll watch a let’s play or summary.
Other games that I got because I thought, maybe, I wait until I’ve finished a game and want something as a palate cleanser. These I’ll give a go and either really enjoy it and finish or do what I mentioned above.
Some I’ve saved because I really want to give them a try and, if it doesn’t work out, that’s ok.
It’s ok to have games you’ll never play. You bought them, or got them via some giveaway, and in both cases supported the devs and studios in the bargain and that’s good enough.
I loved bioshock. But just couldn’t get into bio shock 2. I have infinite and I may or may not get to it.
Sometimes I know a game is special before I start it and so I save it instead of giving it a quick run. Sometimes I end up not liking them, and that’s ok. Other times they’re perfect such as Outer Wilds. A game that is now my favorite game of all time and has held that spot for a few years.
I find that I’m leaning more and more into new experiences and unique stories lately (firewatch, outer wilds) or puzzles (baba is you) or a mix of both (Talos Principle 1&2) but other times I’ll spend hours and hours on something like satisfactory. Get super into it… and then feel like “this was fun, I’ve had a great time, what new experience should I go for now”
Right. Some games are so good you like them. But it’s “uphill” to start them again… so it’s either don’t or just push through.
That’s why I’m such cases I’ll watch a let’s play. Something I can have in the background to get the lore or story. Or a video that explains the story for Death Stranding.
But for others, such as tears of the kingdom, that I had to stop halfway through because of a crazy work project and a lot of overtime I just went back and did side quests until the gist of what I was doing kind of came back to me.
Cocoon - short with no dialog but really enjoyed the puzzles
The Talos Principle 2 - great puzzles and well done story. Really enjoyed it.
Far - Lone Sales - the start wasn’t super intuitive but didn’t take long. Short, no dialog. Ok puzzles. Fair enough especially on sale
Dave the Diver - Really good. Didn’t finish since I played it enough that it didn’t drive me anymore. That’s not the games fault since I tend to do that and rarely play longer games much with my schedule.
I expect you to die 2 - short and alright. Loved the first one, second wasn’t as good but not bad either
Stray - I really enjoyed this one. Fantastic world setting and ambiance even though it’s too short for some people’s taste I found it to be really good.
Gorogoa - Really weird and really good. I love deeper narratives revealed over time and this one hit me like Rime
And even if it was a technical error such as extra code/functionality they decided to scrap but left in there at some point it was discussed and planned enough to be in there which is just as bad.

Just finished 12 Minutes and Indika with my wife. Enjoyed the tight 5-ish hour gameplay with decent not-too-challenging puzzles and great story....

Actually… sounds quite interesting. Like a more casual and chaotic take on DbD, which to me at least sounds like exactly what that formula could use.
