Before steamid there was wonid. OGs know.

Swarfega,

I for some reason take great pride in having a low numbered steamid.

fuzzzerd,

I robbed my self of that ability accidentally, because I preferred cs 1.3/4/5 and it was won only, so I actively avoided 1.6 like the plague and with it steam. Then halflife 2 came out and I bit the bullet.

Swarfega,

I was a TFC player so there was no change for me.

Oz0ne,

yeah i signed up the same day wonid switched to steamid and nabbed a 5 digit

aw, only 19 for me!

chaogomu,

Mine was 19 years, but I was military and got sent overseas for a few years. When I came back, I hadn't actually logged in for the entire time and my account had been reset.

iMastari,

In November it will be 19 years for me as well.

My approach to this problem is that I just select the easy difficulty & just throw away all the crap that would make the game easier. (if I picked up 100x random shit from goblins I could make my character stronger from the extra gold, but I choose not to) Also I just disregard crafting as well. I know that I could play on normal (or hard), fiddle with all these systems & make my team strong enough to deal with any challenge. it’s a choice, since I’m playing a single player game for my own enjoyment, might as well make it challenging on my own terms.

Not shocking. I just hope people learn from this and react by not getting into the gaming industry until the shortage of workers forces it to change. Same thing with the entertainment industry outside of gaming at large.

The way the movie / tv industry treats most of its employees who aren't at the very top is just horrible, and if people didn't have such stars in their eyes for Hollywood and such, working conditions would be so much better all around, along with pay and mandatory breaks.

I've been in the entertainment industry, and so has my sister. It's amazingly how terrible people are treated, including crew and lower end actors, and all for a product that's not really necessary or all that important for the survival of the world. People don't think about it, but we've been around for MILLIONS of years without TV and Movies. Sure there were plays and such, but it doesn't take much for humanity to amuse itself. Simple conversations, board games, some sticks and balls... if the writer / actor strikes kept going on, and new content stopped coming out, it'd suck at first, but we'd get used to it.

I work at a company which doesn’t make games, but interacts with a lot of game devs, and employs a lot of ex-game devs; and everyone I work with is either glad they got out of game dev or glad they skipped it altogether.

I used to work for a very reasonable (smaller) game studio, and while it was fun, I still got a massive pay and quality-of-life improvement by changing careers away from making games.

Essentially supporting PS4 and Xbox One was the reason

TwilightVulpine, (edited )

Nah, if they actually got it into production as they started to make teasers for it, they'd likely get some version of it working for PS4 and Xbox One. The first teaser for it was released on 2013, but development only started on 2016. I'd scratch it to poor management more than anything. Sony managed to keep releasing pretty impressive games on the PS4.

It also comes to mind that the versions on PS5 and XSX weren't even the "next gen" versions proper, they were the ones for the previous consoles that just happened to run better on newer hardware. The proper next gen update only came months later.

I’ve worked with Unreal Engine 4 since 2014. I was a part of games that got the engine early. I adopted Unreal 5 last year when it was reasonable to do so. It’s honestly one of, if not the most powerful game engine out there. It has its own set of issues of course. A lot of people use its features without regard to their proper usage or pitfalls of using them. It’s also not an engine that caters to small indie developers. Every engine has its flaws. That said I’ve constantly watched as large indies to AAA studios switch to unreal over my career. It’s probably the best engine out there for those studios. It’s good to see major studios dropping their clearly buggy engines and being able to put out better products.

That all said, boy that 5% to Epic is making them a lot of money. I’m really hoping in a few years that Godot Engine will really start to compete but even talking with one of the major engine contributors: “godot lacks people who know what they’re doing.” I also see this in a lot of engine issues and poor architecture choices. It’s disappointing to see someone so close to the project confirm. Unreal needs a strong competitor though, something ideally open sourced.

Game's a buggy as hell mess. MP with my partner has had many, many bugs. Until this patch many spells were straight up wrong in the tool tip. Unacceptable stuff, imho. Reviewers have been way too kind.

Edited to add
Played again tonight. In a fifteen minute span of playing, we had four significant bugs. First my dialogue got bugged and didn't get the speech choices (my partner did, but I was leading the conversation so that didn't matter). After a quick load that was fixed. We move to a new zone and suddenly I have a characters outlined permanently. Check settings, it's set to off. Quick load doesn't fix it, quit to menu doesn't fix it. Have to completely restart the game.

Then I listened in on one of my partner's conversations and when it was done, I was randomly stuck inside a box. Quick load later, we're going along and after climbing down a ladder my partner is teleported into a box.

Like... Honestly, I don't believe anyone who says they are playing MP bug free. This shit happens every play session for us.

Kbin_space_program,

Also playing with my partner. Spell tooltips have been completely accurate, and we've only encountered one issue, which was solved with waiting a minute and the game sorted itself out.

iAmTheTot,
@iAmTheTot@kbin.social avatar

I mean I'm glad for you but the tool tips thing is just objective. You can even see the ones they fixed and updated in the patch notes.

As for other bugs, hope you continue being lucky. We're completely locked out of s major character's storyline because of a bug.

Faydaikin,

Just out of curiosity, which character?

And what is the bug that caused the lock out?

iAmTheTot,
@iAmTheTot@kbin.social avatar

Wyll is completely borked. You can google wyll multiplayer for more details, other people have had the same issue. I don't want to give too much spoiler away for anyone else reading.

rich,

Yep we did a massive battle yesterday, went to long rest. Got stuck in the camp with us lying down on the floor twitching with our heads in the campfire itself. Couldn’t quit, couldn’t save, couldn’t leave the fucked camp sleep animation. Tried everything.

Had to reload and redo. Fucking bullshit.

Edit: photo I took. See. What the fuck are they doing. i.postimg.cc/bYxvsZvj/IMG20230828203550.jpg

OttoVonGoon,

I’d recommend repairing your install in case some of the bugs are caused by corrupt files. I’m doing a multiplayer runthrough with a friend and we’ve encountered minor bugs like a exclamation mark being stuck over Wyll’s head, but nothing gamebreaking.

iAmTheTot,
@iAmTheTot@kbin.social avatar

Have you been able to progress Wyll's storyline? Because that sounds like the "he's broken" bug.

It’s not just stutters but also just general poor performance in the open world, such that I get about half the frame rate I would expect to see on high settings without frame gen. I wouldn’t be surprised if the optimizations here are like what happened with Assassin’s Creed: Unity where there was a bunch of detail that got sanded off of the world map in places that a player should never actually see it anyway.
