that's part of every subscription business plan, sadly. The rotation helps keep subscriptions up longer as people have to wait for things to cycle back around.
Are people really going to wait? I thought the whole point was that either the service has to pay for the on-loan games, or if it’s their own product it encourages you to just go buy it if you liked it so much.
Yeah, people definitely wait. Don't have any stats, but I hear people talking about it all the time with regards to streaming services.
THe service does pay for on-loan games, but that's not a reason to rotate. They're paying regardless. THey rotate to try and keep things fresh so people don't cancel.
Oh, as far as video, absolutely. If it leaves one you wait for it to come back on another. But for video games, I just assume once it’s gone, it won’t come back again any time soon. I think there’s kind of different expectations.
Oh yeah, they're probably not waiting months for something to come back. Companies know what's popular, so they tend to stagger those. So people will not cancel if they know next month or the month after is going to be something they want to play.
If you're only interested in one or two games, you'll just buy those (until they stop letting us buy games and force us to rent them).

Can anyone give a rough estimate of how much game content is in Safer Seas? Either a percentage of the full game, or number of hours? Also a bit concerned about the “Captain your own ship” bit…
Yeah they’re going to do the absolute bare minimum they can to bring in pve players without actually giving them what they want as if this game isn’t dead af
The sad thing for us is that we always wanted to have a private server, not a solo mode. I want to mess around with my friends with multiple boats. I don’t care about playing in a galleon, let me play 4 solo sloops with my friends!
I have about 600 hours in SOT so I can answer this.
So honestly that’s a TON of progression without risk, but it’ll be slow going. Emissaries allow you to increase your rewards for a particular faction (reapers, hoarders, merchants, order of souls) so you can’t get those bonuses.
You need to be a pirate legend to captian a ship, and you need three of the primary factions at level 50 to become a pirate legend. Literally no difference beyond achievements and cosmetics. Captaincy just let’s you “own” the ship that spawns in, and essentially designates a player as “leader” whereas in normal play its ad hoc on who does what. And a captained ship just has a name and extra cosmetics anyway.
Can’t earn rep for reapers which kinda sucks, but makes sense. It’s the pvp faction. But many players do pve reapers as well.
Also a bit concerned about the “Captain your own ship” bit…
My guess is they mean that if you’re doing the Safer Seas stuff, you get a standard ship and you can customize how it looks (sails, cannons, etc.) from the NPCs in the harbour but you don’t get to name the ship, and any customizations you do aren’t saved for the next time.
If you do the High Seas, you can buy a ship, name it, and unlock lots of customizations (more than standard ones) which are saved with the ship, so they’re there next time you log in and select that ship.
I don’t know about the other current major advantage of a captained ship, which is currently being able to unload all your treasure and sell it extremely quickly. Without that you need to dock, then manually run all the skulls to the skull guys, all the trade goods to the trade guys, all the treasure to the treasure guys, etc.
Holy shit, finally. One of my favorite games of all time, and with NSO online I can actually play the multiplayer over the internet. I never had friends with this game way back when.
For anyone wondering, it's basically a Kirby Metroidvania with 4 player support even with AI, you can all independently explore the world and use phone battery power ups to summon each other to your location if you're far apart and want to link up. Awesome game.
Honestly, most of the time it’s not PvP heavy, instead it’s dead. I play with some cousins and we’ve had 3 hour sessions where we’ve only occasionally seen other people through the spyglass. When we do encounter other people about half the time they aren’t interested in PvP either.
Having said that, unwelcome PvP at the wrong time can spoil a gaming session. Like, you can be attacked when you’re at the end of a long quest chain and lose hundreds of thousands worth of gold in treasure.
Aww, you won’t be able to bully people who don’t feel like fighting back? You’re gonna be forced to play with other people that actually want to fight? I’m so sowwy 🥺
Please the game is already dead. Last time I hopped on (about a year ago?) I got into 3 back-to-back fights with unkillable ships and players due to cheats. Fuck that noise, PvE or nothing.
Keep at it! Been stoked for Skyblivion. And there’s no way the remaster will even match it. They’ll likely just upgrade the graphics a bit and call it a day
At least Oblivion, unlike Skyrim, had actual classes (let's not talk about the leveling system, shall we?) and spell making. Plus some really, really good questlines (including the main quest, and the whole Shivering Isles expansion was rad AF). The cities also felt larger than in Skyrim and the Arcane University was an actual university, not a random village school with 3 students. Role-play wise Skyrim was the weakest of the three modern ES games.
A few years ago I replayed Oblivion for the first time since it came out. I played a pure spellcaster with no weapons or armor and it was a goddamn blast.
I would just sprint and jump around like a moron while invisible and ignore most threats. Threats I had to deal with got vaporized.
That's a little extreme, here at the fediverse we should strive to do better than reddit, so instead of asking them to delete their account, ask them to defederate. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
It can’t be remaked for many reasons. The best they can do is fund OpenMW or give up their assets. Actually making anything from it is not only rebuilding it, but solving many ways Morrowind is fucking broken.
Bethesdas remaster would probably be nothing more than a version with updated graphics and lighting and support for modern software. This guy is rebuilding the game from scratch in a modern engine.
Fun fact there were olny six years between Oblivion and Skyrims release. Thats right skyrim has been out longer than the release time between oblivion and skyrim.
Which is in itself a slightly updated version of Oblivions gamebryo, which was conceived in the 90s. Calling it a modern engine is extremely generous if not completely wrong.
These people are rebuilding the game from "scratch" in Skyrim's Creation Engine version, but it's still nothing more than a version with updated graphics and lightning. Bethesda's probably going to be using FO4 or Starfield's CE version, which will have the same result albeit shinier.
Do you understand how long that is 💀💀💀💀 Imagine starting a mario kart mod for the gba when it came out and mario kart 8 for the switch is ready before it, this is how long it took 💀💀💀💀
I get that, but the Oblivion and Skyrim engines are not compatible with one another. Meaning that every single little event in Oblivion has to be manually reimplemented in Skyrim's engine.
When you're talking about a game the size of Oblivion, that's a big fucking task. And they're relying on volunteers to get this done.
100 full time dedicated engineers and artists which probably the majority of them are veterans vs a mod teams team of part time students and professionals. I don’t know do the skull make you look more edgey?
Guy who replies to me just to insult me calls me 11 year old, the irony💀💀💀💀 and there was no analogy here, I was asked to read something " relevant " from Arnold, you have the english skills of an 11 year old as well, bro was projecting all along 💀💀💀💀
“Adult” triggered by literal emojis 💀💀💀💀 “youre 11 if youre using emojis” 💀💀💀💀 5th period starting soon buddy, time for your literature class, today youre learning about analogies, next week, irony💀💀💀💀
Ahhhh it’s weirdly beautiful mate. This whole exchange is like one big illustration on irony and (ironically) you end your point by illustrating just how little you understood my posts.
It really is satisfying. But if you want to teach me something and show me why it would be ironic to insult you in a post which was designed specifically to insult you then I’m all ears :) x
Paralympians asked to not compete vs modders asked to be faster there is no analogy here 💀💀💀💀 Or did you reduce both examples to getting criticized so you think it counts as analogy? truly 11 year old mind 💀💀💀💀
The analogy is that someone insulting people trying their hardest while doing nothing of importance themselves are worse than the supposed injustice they point out in the first place.
In this scenario, the volunteer modders are the paralympians, and you’re the douchebag criticising them for contributing something to the world despite having nothing productive to show themself.
“Their hardest” literally a hobby most likely not their hardest and it is a job for the paralympians, so not an analogy on both fronts, “nothing of importance” having a job to buy food and stay alive is more important than a videogame mod. Fake everything and you get an analogy, congrats.
Nooo its a hobby u cant type LMAO or I’ll compare you to disrespecting paralympians 💀💀💀💀 I literally predicted u would reduce both events to criticism, now I bothered to explain it too
It’s not simple criticism though is it mate? It’s criticising people who are contributing to the world while offering nothing yourself. That’s the whole point which has already been pretty clearly explained.
If we take it back to your original comment you’re literally criticising the amount of free work someone chooses to do. I’d hoped you might see the analogy but it seems like we’re past that point so let’s call it a day.
Good luck though mate, maybe think about it a bit more when you don’t feel like it’s a battle with an anonymous Internet person and can look more objectively at the points made :) x
Any examples of that or are you also 11 year old who replies just to insult? Another irony for you since you didnt give any examples and behave like the other guy
Ah dont call someone out when they fail to use their own terms properly while they have the audacity to call you 11 first, or youre like them. Good logic.
You know, it’s unhealthy to be so negative all the time. Not saying you should only post positive comments all the time, just keep it in check so Lemmy aren’t full of negative vibe.
Super disappointed, I held off on buying S&V because of the technical issues but had assumed they’d be ironed out later. Doesn’t look like I’ll be getting it anytime soon
Good job cdpr, I was planning on finally actually buying this game. Now you’ve told me it’s still the same mess it’s always been, and to continue holding off. Maybe in a few more years, when I can get the full game with dlcs for less than $30.
This is my experience with Cyberpunk 2077 in 2023:
this summer, i built a new PC specifically so that I could play the game with good, stable performance. With ray-tracing on, the game would curb-stomp my RTX 3080 (not a cheap card mind) with 30 fps in the inner city. Not great, kind of disappointing.
What followed was nothing but a never-ending stream of bugs. Feel free to sample from the smorgosbord;
night would shift to day in an instant
characters would t-pose on reload
characters would walk through cars like a tank and blow them up
npc driven cars would run through walls and cars and blow them up
ragdolls would flip out and fly out of bounds
citizens walk in circles through the streets
animated objects like cell phones would not disappear when put away and instead float around their bodies
npc driven cars would teleport forward when driven
lost count of how much clipping issues were present
All this after about 5 hours of game play. It was brutal until I could take no more. And the game play is just not that fun, even though most of the characters are interesting and the story is good.
The absolute most damning thing is that the game demands immersion, the world is built around the concept, but with a bug every 15 min throwing you out of the experience, it’s just too much.
I’ve played though the game twice on the Series X and didn’t have any if that. Once that got the frame rate up to a solid 60 in the first big patch, it’s a really solid feeling title.
I’ve had pretty much the same experience, but with an RX7900 XTX, which is an even moer expensive card. In the end I even got soft-locked, because I was playing on the highest difficulty, and in some random side misssion I just kept respawning in a spot, where I could not reach any kind of cover before being killed. Of course I tried to lower the difficulty, but that just instantly crashed the game. That was the point where I uninstalled
