wccrawford,

Yeah, it was a mistake… After they got called on it.

It was absolutely in there on purpose.

wccrawford,

They delisted them before they announced that they wouldn’t require accounts after all.

wccrawford,

Perhaps. Or perhaps they’re a giant behemoth where 1 hand doesn’t know what the other is doing, and the person with the authority for this hasn’t bothered.

wccrawford,

Gamesir T4 Kaleid. I love the hall effect joysticks, and it feels like it’s the right size. The one negative is that it’s wired-only.

OTOH, the GameSir Nova (not lite) is hot garbage. I hate almost everything about it, and its wireless PC connection (without the dongle that it does not come with) is trash. It’s basically only good as a Switch controller… And I haven’t even actually tried it for that.

The GameSir Nova Lite is much better, but still too small and you need to use the slightly-older 4200 firmware (from the official app) instead of the latest, because they got stupid about things.

I somewhat like the Xbox Elite V2 controller, but you have to get a good one. A bad one will have really crappy triggers that sometimes won’t work. I think I’ve even heard that the sticks are sometimes wonky. And it’s not hall effect.

wccrawford,

I don’t think politely asking people to change their review so that it reflects reality is a “karen” move.

wccrawford,

I think it’s by design, not because they’re stupid. They saw those forks right away and decided to let them get settled in and comfortable, and then removed them. Knowing that the hammer will come down eventually is really demoralizing. Knowing it’ll come down right away means you can test the waters and see how it goes without much personal investment.

wccrawford,

It seems pretty clear to me that they definitely intended to include breast jiggle physics at some level, and they decided that that was something that should be decided by the community. That would indicate to most casual readers that it’s a priority for the devs. If they didn’t realize that would strike a chord with both the pro-sexualization and anti-sexualization people, they weren’t thinking at all.

This looks like a cutesy, cozy game that probably shouldn’t even have jiggle physics. If they really wanted it in there, they should have just done it and said nothing. The “nasty people” they don’t want to “attract” would have appreciated the jiggle, and everyone else would have just ignored it.

The devs brought it into the spotlight and it got talked about. I’m not surprised at that outcome at all.

wccrawford,

Yeah, I got that the 150% was a joke. But I think the meat of the uproar wasn’t the joke, but the whole situation of posting this for the community as if it’s an important thing to decide. The joke didn’t help, either, as it shows they weren’t taking this seriously, further enraging people.

Sweeping it under the rug then rubbed everyone the wrong way.

Done well, I think “jiggle-physics” actually call less attention the chest, as it doesn’t look unnatural. The games that get noticed aren’t implementing it that way, though, so it gets a bad rap.

Trying to Give Away Some Accounts

I’ve been trying to give away some accounts for some time now with no success. Not sure if there’s some kind of account-give-away scam that went around or something but they are my accounts I haven’t used in years. Just hoping someone gets some fun out of them....

wccrawford,

I’m betting that most or all of those have a TOS that doesn’t allow an account to change owners. You might be unsuccessful because people don’t want to end up on the wrong side of those companies and end up losing not only your account, but also their original account.

wccrawford,

It’s at least as wrong as fantasizing about them if they aren’t already romantically involved with you.

How wrong that is, is up for debate. It will definitely creep them out and they can never find out about it.

If it’s just in your head, at least there’s no physical way they could ever find out. You’d have to admit it. But if you have it on your hard drive, a hacker could get it and blackmail you with it, or just distribute it.

So my stance is that there’s a non-zero chance of doing harm to them, and so it’s wrong. I wouldn’t do it. I also wouldn’t create it with Photoshop, or by hand, for the same reason.

If you want to jerk off, do it to existing porn, or imaginary people porn. Don’t create porn of real people without their permission, even if you think nobody will ever see it other than you. Accidents happen, and they don’t deserve to bear the cost of that.

wccrawford,

Judging by another comment here, non-consensual porn is far worse, and causing suicidal thoughts and more.

So I’d say it has all the “gross” of regular porn (which is subjective) and the additional “gross and horrifying” of violating someone.

wccrawford,

Why would it be illegal to give away your game for 24 hours?

wccrawford,

Oh wow. I can’t wait to watch that shit show play out.

wccrawford,

Wow. I can’t count how many sites I’ve blocked from my newsreader because I was flooded with “How to find Rupees in Zelda” articles that are so basic as to be ridiculous. At the rate of 50 per week, that’s all you’ll get.

I actually do like guides like “How to find the secret underground vault and its 3 keys”, but I don’t want them in my news feed. I want them to be there when I search the site or Google.

wccrawford,

That’s “hidden gem” rather than “underrated.”

But I agree with others that are saying it’s just niche. It’s a pure puzzle game. There’s no exploration, crafting, combat, survival, etc. You have to really like puzzles to play a pure puzzle game.

I do, and I’ve still been struggling to make it all the way through. I’m just starting on the last of the first 12 sections, and some of them have kind of been a slog rather than a joy.

I can’t even give any particular complaint, though. Each puzzle really is different from the others, so they aren’t duplicated in any way that was obvious to me. It’s just a lot, I guess.

wccrawford,

If you like exploration and discovery, good “walking simulators” are actually really compelling.

If you don’t like games without action, they’re going to feel rather boring.

I definitely recommend trying one, at least.

wccrawford,

I looked, and they’re headquartered in Tokyo!

wccrawford,

Oh wow, I didn’t realize they were Japanese. I wish I was in a spot in life that I could apply, too. Good luck!

Can someone explain to me why Honkai: Star Rail is treated as something other than trash? I keep seeing posts about it, all over. angielski

It’s a free-to-play mobile gacha game. Therefore, it is trash. That point simply cannot be argued. It’s not up for debate. If you’re here to debate that point, please don’t even bother. All mobile games are trash. All free-to-play games are trash. All gacha games are trash. Again: there is no debate about that....

wccrawford,

Like Genshin Impact, Star Rail has a decent base game that does well with its characters and combat. Notice I didn’t say “great”.

However, after you get through the intro and the first world, they start adding on to the game. There’s a whole bunch of 1-off mini-games that are fun in their own right and have nothing to do with the Gacha.

The first one is a museum administration mini game where you’re responsible for “hiring” people that have 3 stats, and then balancing those stats to make money for the museum, then using the money to upgrade the museum, run mini-quests to restore the museum, and hire more staff. And expand the museum.

Each of these little mini-games is a few days of fun, and I think I’ve found 4 so far IIRC in Star Rail. Genshin Impact has had similar things, but tend to not be permanent, and to be less involved than Star Rail’s.

The gacha is generous enough that you can generally play without paying anything. I don’t think I’ve given any money to Star Rail, though I have paid the monthly $5 to Genshin Impact for a few months now. And I’ll admit, I started thinking about paying it to Star Rail, too. It’s definitely a gacha game, but on the actually-playable side if you’re playing free.

That said, if gacha games are something that just stick in your craw, it’s unlikely that any game will change that, and I’d argue that you’re better off never finding out.

In the end, I’d say you’re best just accepting that for what it is, it’s one of the best, and letting it go. There’s no point in being upset that people enjoy a game that you can’t. Let them have their fun, and go have your own instead.

wccrawford,

I “fled Reddit” because they started making really stupid managerial decisions and screwing over the user base. They changed how they do things, and I no longer agreed to it. The same thing happened to me on Lemmy. I initially joined a server that decided that majority vote was the way to run things, and I left. Then I joined a server that died. I finally found my current one and like it.

Though in reality, I now frequent both sites and enjoy them for different reasons.

Gacha games, though… They tell you up front what to expect, and they do that. (Except certain illegal cases that actually got in legal trouble for it.) Yes, they’re predatory and manipulative, and they ruin the lives of some people who have certain tendencies. That really sucks.

But they’re fun and satisfy an urge that many people have that isn’t getting satisfied otherwise.

I think spending hundreds of dollars on a game is stupid (I’ve done it, over a couple years on 1 game) and I think spending thousands is insane, even if you have more money than you can ever use. But I can and do play them for free (or close to it) now if they are fun and don’t waste my time.

I don’t think these positions are hypocritical. I’m not on Lemmy because I’m a zealot. I’m on here because I enjoy it.

wccrawford,

I replied about this on your comment to another user already.

wccrawford,

If you aren’t sure, wait for a big sale. I quite enjoyed the game, but other than being a massively-popular IP, I’m not sure why it’s getting so much acclaim. It’s big, it’s Harry Potter (with all the attention to detail that usually gets), and it’s an RPG. If it wasn’t HP, it’d be another good indie game, and that’s it.

wccrawford,

Daemon Tools

Holy crap! They still exist? I haven’t heard that name in forever, but I loved their stuff back when I needed it. Wow.

wccrawford,

I’ve seen that they understand players are leaving in droves, but I’ve seen no indication that they know why. Every single thing they’ve said an done since the last DLC has been exactly the opposite of what makes the game fun for me. I went from spending way, way, way too much time each week to spending virtually none in a single season… And I haven’t even checked on the game since the second week of this season. It’s really sad.

Has anyone tried the stadia controller via Bluetooth on PC?

I use a dual shock 4 via Bluetooth on my PC (Windows) and I’m tired about the workarounds required to have it working all the time. Sometimes it needs steam open, sometimes instead having steam open will confuse the game, and so on. And by default the light is off when connected so I never know if it’s o, off, low battery. I...

wccrawford,

I tried it, found it had horrible latency, and threw it in a box.

I’ve been using the (wired) Gamesir T4 Kaleid on my desktop and loving it.

I’ve been using an XBox Elite (the one that worked, not the one I sent back because the trigger was broken) and it’s been okay, but the dead zones are much, much larger than the Kaleid. I looked at Gamesir’s wireless options, but wasn’t impressed with the reviews, so I haven’t tried any yet.

wccrawford,

They both seem somewhat similar to the old Lunar Lander game. That might help you find more clones?

wccrawford,

I use Palm until my fingers ache and I remember that I need to not grip it like that any more (some of my fingers ache from it), and then I move to fingertip for a while.

wccrawford,

I’m not defending Ubi here, they absolutely should have ripped this code out. They had to know the outrage that it would generate.

But it might not have been a management decision. It could have been a “20% time” project where a developer designed and implemented a system that they thought management would like, and then it never got ripped back out after it was rejected. Those projects are usually barebones and use existing assets as much as possible, so it wouldn’t even mean that they had to stand up other systems to support it… They could just link to an existing ad from something else.

wccrawford,

Interesting! I love Astroneer and tend to think that Devolver publishes good games, so I’m interested in seeing what this means in the future.

My hope is that Astroneer 2 is on the horizon and this is in prep for it! So far as I know, they haven’t said anything about making a sequel, though, so I’m not holding my breath.

Bungie CEO Claims Layoffs Were Due to Destiny 2 Underperformance - IGN (www.ign.com) angielski

In an internal town hall meeting addressing a Monday round of layoffs that impacted multiple departments, Bungie CEO Pete Parsons allegedly told remaining employees that the company had kept “the right people” to continue work on Destiny 2.

wccrawford,

I hate grind, but I used to enjoy just playing D2 weekly, way beyond the weekly content.

Then they decided that literally everything needed to be a slog, and that being overpowered was bad, and they ruined my fun. I went from 80 hr weeks (I know this isn’t healthy) to 1 hour weeks over the course of a couple seasons. I still spent a lot of time after the launch of the latest DLC, but after that was done, and they upped the base difficulty by removing the effect of levels on almost all base content, I struggled to stay engaged. This season, I just gave up. I’ve got like 15 levels, when I usually have 200-300 in the battle pass.

I’m not saying they don’t have a grind problem, too, but it wasn’t what killed it for me.

wccrawford,

I’m a casual who put a lot of hours into the game, enjoying it over a few seasons. Then they decided that what the community wanted was more difficulty, even at the lowest levels, and it has ruined the game for me. I used to just fire it up and shoot my way through a bunch of stuff, having fun.

Now everything is a slog. I find myself having to get serious about getting through the most basic levels, instead of just running through it like a madman.

As a consequence, I now play no more than a couple hours a week, and I’ve even skipped weeks entirely lately.

You’d think this would resonate with someone, but I’ve heard nothing but complaints about this change. High-level, serious players aren’t in favor of it because it makes low-level content slow and boring, but doesn’t actually engage them any better than before. New players find it difficult when it should be teaching them the game. Mid-level players like myself get nothing from the increased difficulty, either.

And yet they persist, adding even more modes that strip the point of levels from the game, and homogenize all the content.

I’m hoping they smarten up next season, but I’m not real optimistic.

wccrawford,

Yeah, just like the original rate change, I can’t imagine who would think this was a good excuse, or that it makes them look better at all. Now, not only was it a really bad idea, it was done on a whim as well.

wccrawford,

I’ve played it for a bit, and I enjoy it in short bursts, and then I get tired of it. Maybe 2-3 levels, max, at a time. But I do keep going back and enjoying it again, so…

wccrawford,

I thought that this was incredibly dumb, so I went looking… And from what I can tell, there’s a whole section that can be replaced, including the padding. Instead of just the padding. So there will be replacements available, and third party replacements, too, I’m sure.

Buggy games should be 100% allowed to be refunded. angielski

I have no idea how many runs I started in BG3. Every few moments I report a bug. Every update the game seemingly gets worse. Decisions don’t work, pathing is awful, after the latest update attacks no longer connect properly and my character claims not to be able to attack with a clear line of sight and so on. I have never...

wccrawford,

I think the “2 weeks” is the line for auto-refund, but they can and will refund you after that at their discretion. And they don’t seem to be jerks about it.

wccrawford,

I don’t think I’ve seen a lot of overlap from the titles I get on GamePass and the ones I get from Humble monthly. I do have a lot of overlap from Humble and the ones I have already bought, though, which is always a bummer. Each time, I have to remind myself that I enjoyed that game and it was worth the price at the time.

wccrawford,

I absolutely hate it when a game or movie puts up a fully white screen, especially after a dark scene. It’s just painful and stupid.

Just finished my first playthrough of Prey by Arkane Studios and WOW. angielski

Can’t believe it took me so long to get around to playing this but I’m so glad I did. Dishonored is still my favorite of theirs but now I’ve played all their games and they are easily my favorite studio because of their rich storytelling and immersive world design....

wccrawford,

Yeah, when the new Prey came out I was very, very confused for a while.

I ended up liking the game, but I didn’t find it as interesting as the original.

That’s a stay of execution at best. At some point, you’ll need to upgrade to a new Unity. It might be because IOS and Android require using an SDK that’s not more than 2 years out of date, or because nVidia/AMD invented some new amazing tech, or a host of other reasons. But eventually, you’ll need to upgrade.

The worst part is that Android is actually removing apps that haven’t updated in years, even if they still work perfectly. So you’ll get screwed by that eventually if you do mobile at all.

    wccrawford,

    They deserve their refunds, but…

This is a lesson that you never buy something based on a future promise. Buy it based on what it is, not what someone says it’ll be eventually.

    wccrawford,

Steam has rules intended to curb this behavior.

    partner.steamgames.com/doc/marketing/discounts

    wccrawford,

As if you can’t schedule your announcements to fall just after the scheduled stock sales… Or just before them, if you want.

    wccrawford,

No. I don’t know any of game that allows you to refund purchases of in-game currency.

    wccrawford,

I would love to know what they would port to. UE and Godot seem like obvious candidates.

    wccrawford,

You missed one: They initially said that web-based games count as installs, too. Insanity.

    wccrawford,

Where I’m from, 94-100 was an A, so 74-83 was still a C, but it would just squeak by.

    wccrawford,

This actually does make me want to play the game some more. I had beat it once and started a new game+, but then got sick of doing it again. I might actually try it again soon now.

    wccrawford,

Yeah, most of them are “we have X at home” quality.
