I really want this for a lot of games. GTA5 became this absolutely beautiful spectacle of a game once I had the ability to control the flow of time. Something beautiful about launching a rocket and watching it crawl to its destination under the twinkling sunlight, past the unsuspecting bypassers who barely have time to register that something is up. Breathtaking game.
With “optimized for gaming” premise? That’s obviously nothing more than “hey we decided to allow you to terminate resource hungry explorer/copilot/edge when you play”.
Does Randy even realize how much the industry’s landscape has changed ?
First of all you’re in competition with your older games. BDL1 and 2 had soul and were good. BDL 3 is still ok (no idea about the pre-sequel but I heard it was the beginning of the downwards trend). Not to mention the literal hundreds (even thousands for some of us) of other good games sitting in our libraries. And the indie bangers consistently proving that we don’t need to pay 80$ and download a 200 Go day one patch to enjoy the medium in 2025. I hope this bankrupts Gearbox at this point.
I had the original Xbox all the way through the last series and sold it to get the last 100€. I hadn’t bought a game on the Xbox since No Man’s Sky and just didn’t see anything appealing about it anymore, it was just a steaming box until it was gone (and is at a friend’s, who is using it as a streaming box, lol)
I’d encourage folks to watch some gameplay videos on this instead of just reading this article. Every one I’ve watched showed gameplay that looked like lot of fun and the folks playing had a much different opinion than this. Looks a lot more interesting than Marathon at the very least.
I like how there’s so many fees on this console that we haven’t even gotten to the $50 skype webcam accessory which they spent a solid third of their direct showing off.
Fils-Aimé pushed for the bundle, and initially company President Satoru Iwata turned the proposal down: “Nintendo does not give away precious content for free.”
“Neither of you understands the challenges of creating software that people love to play. This is something we constantly push ourselves to do. We do not give away our software,” Mr. Miyamoto stated.
It’s ironic that with the success of Wii sports, Nintendo completely ignored the lesson.
All the important people at nintendo have been separated from reality by their own fame and success for so long that they’ve lost their common sense and rationality.
But despite it all, their absolute contempt for their costumers and supporters continues to get rewarded by masses of fanboys/fangirls who keep unloading dumptrucks of money on Nintendos doorstop out of some obsessive nostalgia, and thus keeps nintendo from ever actually learning an actual fucking lesson.
