k1ck455kc, do games w "You can't just have Geralt for every single game" says his voice actor, and if you think The Witcher 4 making Ciri the protagonist is "woke," then "read the damn books"

As long as they remake the original Witcher(and maybe the 2nd one too) so i can experience it in a similarly cinematic way to The Witcher 3… I will be happy and excited to see what a Ciri-based game or even trilogy would look like.

Will definitely miss the masculine indulgences of TW3 in the Ciri game though…

BmeBenji,

If you’re avoiding the first two Witcher games because they’re somehow not cinematic, you’re sorely mistaken.

Both of those games are incredibly atmospheric to the point of mastery. (tbf you have to be able to forgive the character models in the first game and that can be admittedly difficult because HOLY HELL ZOLTAN ARE YOU OKAY)

also wtf do you mean “masculine indulgences?”

pezhore,

Definitely not OP, but I wouldn’t mind remasters of the first game to address the wonky controls. Witcher 2 was fine, but trying to go from Witcher 3 back to Witcher 1 for the first time was not a great experience for me.

orgrinrt,

Yeah. The controls, the fighting. Even with all the patches and community stuff laid on top, it was a bit too uncomfortable to actually play through for me.

The second one was brilliant. And to this day, despite me having almost 200 hours in Witcher 3, the only Witcher game I’ve actually finished. I think second’s format was perfect. 3 is just too open and beautiful, I get lost in wandering around too easily.

BadlyDrawnRhino,
@BadlyDrawnRhino@aussie.zone avatar

They are remaking the first game, but I don’t know if there are enough details about it yet to know how extensive the overhaul will be. The second game doesn’t need one.

Trainguyrom,

The second one might benefit from a remaster by the time 4 comes out, as some of the models are a bit too XBox360 era, with the strangely wide shoulders and oversized arm muscles of the time

BadlyDrawnRhino,
@BadlyDrawnRhino@aussie.zone avatar

That’s fair. I was thinking more about the overall aesthetic, as it’s a bit more stylised rather than leaning towards realism like in 1 and 3.

kbotc,

Ciri has a relationship with a woman in the books, so I’m not sure you will miss what I assume you’re referring to as “the masculine indulgences” as much as you think you will.

On the other hand, CDPR retconned a shedload of that book so we shall see.

I’d be willing to pay that. But honestly, I’ll probably wait until it’s on sale.

I once paid $140 (just pre-pandemic inflation) for a meal with two drinks at a fancy restaurant for a friend’s bachelor party. It was delicious. At the same time, I realized that no one meal, no matter how good, was worth that price. I don’t know what the threshold is for how much I’ll pay for a single video game, but $80 is more palatable to me when the game asking for it isn’t Mario Kart.

Droechai,

I’d gladly pay 80 bucks for games, Ive paid way more than that in 40K, Warmahordes and Advanced Squad Leader.

If digital games would give me the same kind of “ownership”, like full access to the code and free reign to modify the rules sets as well as spreading those changes to friends and strangers I wouldn’t hesitate to spend similar amounts. However digital games, even physical on disks, has too many limitations as riders for that price to be motivated

I wish we lived in a world close to that one, and maybe someday we’ll get there. Guilty Gear Strive’s source code just got leaked in its entirety, so complete that it can just be loaded as is into the Unreal editor, and a lot of people see this as a bad thing rather than the game ascending to immortality.

mohab,

The Plus R community have been begging ArcSys to release the source code for a long time—hopefully, this will push them to reconsider their stance on open source.

The first good thing I read about the polished version of the game. The bar is really low with Bethesda

MrFinnbean,

Im confused? I have heard mostly positive things about the game.

vxx, (edited )

I read it’s badly optimised and even monster PCs cant run it smoothly. It crashes a lot. It’s 55€… for a remaster, not even a remake.

At least you can see a Mountain of skyrim.

Even steam reviews from the first day fans are only around 80% positive, which says a lot for the early stage (KCD2 is at 94%, oblivion GOTY is 95%), and most complain about Performance issues and that they cant get more than 60fps

It’s a hard pass for me and feels like a money grab.

That’s Unreal Engine 5 for you. Expect anything made with UE5 to be this way.

vxx,

Sure, blame the engine.

Why would they even pick it up as their choice of they dont expect better results? Maybe because it’s the least effort, the cheapest solution? I’m just speculating here, but when I expect UE5 to always suck, it wouldn’t be my choice if I had quality in mind.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

You’ll expect it to always suck because you’re the consumer. UE has, since UE4, put itself in the position of being the number 1 go-to engine everyone thinks about when doing amazing visuals as easily and cheaply as possible. Even indie devs instantly think about Unreal when thinking about good looking graphics.

So yes, I blame the engine for making itself a cheap, lazy way of making great looking graphics, because it’s even effecting how GPU’s are being developed.

vxx, (edited )

No, you were the one that told me that it always sucks, it has nothing to do with my expectations.

I expect a good company to know and work with good tools, not cheap ones.

It starts with handyman and shouldnt stop at game development.

If I hire a company and they come with dirty tools known to be bad, I send them home and hire someone that knows and values their work.

If youre a one man company I don’t care as much as if you were one of the biggest out there pretending to be the best.

Blaming the company that created the tool is not the way, it’s the professionals that use it.

Tattorack,

I expect a good company to know and work with good tools, not cheap ones.

Then you’re incredibly naive and haven’t paid attention to the gaming industry these days.

vxx, (edited )

And that’s why there’s only garbage coming out these days from the big studios, yes.

Why do you use that to defend them? What do you gain from defending the greedy?

The game drops to 20fps on a 4070 btw, and you’re here pretending it has to be like that because a lot of studios put the least effort they think they can get away with.

How do you explain that modders will be fixing a lot of the issues, like they always have to do with Bethesda games? Wouldn’t that be impossible if it’s the engines fault?

Why have you submitted to mediocracy? Why do you accept it and even go as far to defend it?

No wonder they think they can get away with it, because apparently they can with people like you making excuses for the.

We should all start a boycot and stop buying anything ubisoft, then release a statement when they go down saying: “cannot complain” and weren’t “deceived” by the lack of “access to our decade-old money”.

But that will never happen.

Would be funny tho.

Draconic_NEO, do games w After 11 years, Xbox One emulators are finally coming to PC - but they're not actually using emulation at all
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

Why would they, Xbox uses a version Windows and an x86 core + AMD GPU, bog standard parts, bog standard system, it’s easier to tap into the windows component on an x86 system and just use that to run the games. Making a proper emulator for games that would otherwise run on the PC natively just wouldn’t make sense.

Same for PS4 maybe running easier on OpenBSD/Unix-like systems by having a similar kernel.

Will certainly be interesting!
